  1. Yeah, that just isn't how football in this day and age works. KW stated in I believe the season-ending presser, or the one for the extensions, that the nature of the working relationship between him and Mos is not one is the boss. He said it used to be a lot of tug of war over every single move, and that it's closer to being on the same page now. But he also picked his battles. If you look back at the past 30+ years of this team, the number of times the GM was the HC's boss is few and far between. It's about as many seasons as the GM was the HCs errand boy. And most of those outliers went or ended very poorly for us.
  2. And Thomas. But yeah, the paydays and bringing back guys like Kyrie do make it much more questionable. We have yet to see what the spending is in free agency. With massive needs on DL and WR, I can not see us being inactive. FA, and then the draft, are going to be keys to the offseason quality. We need to kill it in both.
  3. He would be the best pass blocker of the 3 from last year's play, but the worst run blocker of the 3. Eli is better overall and needs to step up in the pass game from his guard play to take the job. He should easily be able to do that. Id say Ciraco in pass pro is the bare minimum for what we need at C, and Eli run blocking is the minimum on that side. We haven't seen significant snaps from Eli at C in ages. It looked to me that he struggled out of position at Guard, which is not common but does happen (Yoshi is the biggest example). And that he, like everyone else, struggled with kola at C. I expect to see a significant improvement from him going back to his natural position full-time. If not, I'd cut him. I would expect to see that increase in the level of play before the first preseason game. Ciraco would be the backup plan imo. If we missed out on Woodmansey, I'd take flyers on guys like McEwen. Failing that, I'd try to target a C in the draft if possible. Ciraco would be the guy I would look to bring in during camp, if Eli fails, we don't get another FA, and Vibert doesn't step up. Basically, the contingency plan is the backup plan. He's a good pass blocker, but he fits our system really poorly. We'd have to give up on our zone run scheme, and even then, he isn't a guy who is going to feast in any run scheme. I believe in Eli, and I also really like Vibert. But I would bring in a plan A, and look long and hard at Cs in the draft.
  4. At TC, we ride! lol Honestly, I could see taking Kyrie over Jones in a situation we would never entertain. You use Kyrie as the naturalized import. You start Shay/Smith at Mac, Woodbey at Wil. (Kramdi goes to S, Allen to the corner.) Then Kyrie can play special teams, sub in situationally for the run and pass as needed for either LBER, including a half of the Canadians' snaps if they are struggling, or if you go to a 30 front, you can put Kyrie in and kick Woodbey out to dime. Jones would have been in the league long enough to qualify as a naturalized player the following year, and with us to qualify. Jones is awful in pass cover, kyrie like wj I could see being more effective if used in fewer reps. Of course, we aren't going to use the naturalized American rule, or Kyrie in that role, or move on from Jones. I expect, if Kyrie is healthy out of camp, he will be the starter no matter how any one else plays.
  5. I agree they have done a great job of moving on from the right guys and locking up the right ones as well. The remaining guys aren't make or break, but it would be nice to have Makonzo back (as you said), Sterns, I'd take Lofton to battle at guard and push Vanterpool, as others have stated, I'd take Strevy back on a full-year IR-type deal to be a player-coach, and that's about it. I think you keep the phone handy for a guy like Bonds when he's healthy. If you end up in need of a DB, he's been good here in the past, and maybe Houston. But the internal work is basically done. Maybe you kick around extension offers to guys like Novak, Shay, Smith, Peterson, MCI, Clercius, etc. See if you can get a young guy to lock up cheap. Maybe you give the early trip to fa to guys like Vaughters, Kyrie, Strev, Schoen, Houston etc. Or maybe younger guy you want to move on from like Wheatfall. I really love Ayers upside and what he flashes. But his useage went down last year, and our Lbers/secondary/teams unit got deeper. I could see him being a sleeper cut. Don't want it to happen, but I could see some logic there.
  6. I don't think that's a good push for a guy like Woli. I love that guy, he's about to turn 31, but he's played an extremely physical role for 8 seasons now, and hasn't been able to stay healthy since 23. I'd keep in touch with Woli, if things aren't panning out well after the draft, bring him in for a look at camp. Otherwise, he'd be on top of the early-season/pre-season injury replacements call-backs list. I'd rather have a guy like Cobb. I'd take Woli over a guy like Corcoran in season. But going into camp youre probably better off getting a better look at a young guy like that.
  7. Rambo is a bit of a gamble, but a big value upside. I love his upside, and the production he's had for a while with 2 seasons of play at 26 is fantastic. Also hes been very reliable with games played. Haven't they cut him like twice already? Off-season bonuses are a horrible trap for players. Idk why guys still take them.
  8. Yeah, I could see him getting a close to Lawler-level salary. I think his lack of wear, quick pick up of the game, and being in his prime have to put his skill set as no1 maybe no2 at worst in the market. Pretty much, but the fit of Eberhardt can't be slept on. Rhymes, White, Johnson, and Mack will all attract top dollar as well. The guys just under that, like Eberhardt, and Brisett (the other nis as well) could go for very good value if they go early. After that, you have some fairly desirable guys who are risky picks. I really hope we don't just go out and try to fill up on the risky picks again. Preference slides a bit, if we go after another Canadian or an imp who is a big downfield target, that makes it easier to take a guy like white. For me, I'd go Johnson, then White, then Eberhardt and Rhymes equal, then Mack. Johnson's age/lack of wear/upside put him on top. White stands alone as a twitchy yac underneath guy, and he has tremendous durability. Eberhardt's youth, durability, and catch efficiency for a big gain threat balance out with Rhymes' size, downfield productivity, and ability to continually bounce back. Then Mack's health drops him down from being in the top of the range. Mack and Rhymes might even be more equal than either is to Eberhardt. I thought he was NFL-bound, but it looks like that was Meyers I was thinking of. Johnson is currently unsigned.
  9. The only option we have is to build out our wr core with high-quality via free agency. Id rather gamble on a guy who has had flukie injuries but can be elite, vs gambling on guys like last year that might be able to play even when healthy.
  10. https://3downnation.com/2026/01/26/2026-cfl-free-agent-rankings-receivers/ From this list, I think we need 2 guys who aren't Sterns, Schoen, Wheatfall, or Bridges. Then we should also sign one of those guys, or Bane, Robusteli/Nield etc. Get one of White, Eberhardt, Johnson (didn't he get an nfl deal?), Rhymes, . And one of Rambo, Gittens, or Brisset, Addison, or Dunbar. You have to match the passport goals and size in reality. One more Canadian WR would be excellent. But we would have to commit to signing a guy like Nield and or drafting a wr as well. We really need size and a downfield target for Zach. Going with 2 of Gittens, White, and Addison wouldn't be idea though it would be the level of talent influx we need. Eberhardt and White would be a tremendous fit. Either of those 2 with Brisset or Gittens would be awesome, but Nields combination of size and hands would be great as well. I like Nield a bit more than Robustelli; he's extremely reliable catching. But it would be hard to go wrong with either. Mack would be a nice pick-up as well. We have a good selection of guys to go through that would fit our needs, lots of interchangability between guys. It's just a question of how expensive it will be.
  11. I do like Sterns as a back end of the roster guy. Tough blocker, all-around good wr. I'd love to have him back as long as he isn't pencilled into a starting job going into camp.
  12. He is somewhere between a cheap politician and a used car salesman. Tsn must have been laughing, getting rid of him and dumping him on us. The Sms and the Ops cap should be linked equally to revenue. One increases, the other should go up. It doesn't need to be dollar-for-dollar, but it needs to be linked to league growth. If you take the 2 lowest paid HCs in d1 football, I bet they combine to make more than one teams ops cap now. 133 schools obliterating coaching pay up here, and probably every single one pays their COs more than any cfl front office type makes.
  13. That tracks, basically everything he says and does is the opposite of reality.
  14. We could certainly use a big down field threat. But we also have such a glaring need that we can’t really be picky out side of quality. Whites fit with in the type of passing game we will run would be great as well. A yac guy who can catch and run turning high percentage passes into first downs. It would also allow demski to move away from over the middle and hand off stuff.
  15. being a tweener definitely impacted his use at michigan. They used him as a jack, not a regular de
  16. wonder what it’d take. 250k last year. 4 1k seasons in a row. Been very steady, excellent yac guy, would be great in a sweep package
  17. We need 2 starting wrs. I would’ve loved if one of them was Hardy. Even at that 200k range. Hardy isn’t a long term answer, but right now we are desperate for 2 strong short term answers
  18. Yep, even more so for those 4* plus kids. those guys have grown up hearing they are going to be nfl stars since they are 12-14. If that doesn’t wake them up and get them playing like their career depends on it nothing will. Some super talented kids fall into a trap of doing all the small things coaches ask, at the expense of doing the things that will get them to the next level. Very nearly 100% of playing careers and in heart ache. No matter the level. And a huge portion of those have injuries driving them.
  19. I hope we do. We have massive needs at DL and WR. We cant fill them like we tried to last year either.
  20. he couldn’t put up worse numbers than last year. just doing better won’t remotely mean he earns that money. If he produces at a rate equal to the last two years in one this year, he will be a solid value. idk I can’t see teams paying wj on hopes he regains his level of play from 3 years ago. he’d look real good in blue n gold
  21. absolutely. it is. but you bring in 15-20 guys like this each camp and the ones who don’t cut it are first gone and gone in rookie camp. Football is so intensely dependant on raw athleticism and talent, if you can add or develop one strong intangible like football iq, motor, etc you have a quick riser. I mean this is why college teams are always all over track/basketball practices. very true. and the reality of falling out of the nfl window is a big learning opportunity. those guys always believe that their talent/athleticism will carry to a shot and they will win a spot. even though the reality is very different. Realizing that and facing the end of a career they thought would carry them can bring out a different animal.
  22. it’s pretty common in the cfl now to bring guys like this into camp. underachieving 4star or higher guys. If they adjust in camp to the canadian game it’s a very good chance you have a high end contributor. if they don’t they are easy cuts. The raw talent and athleticism helps raise the bar in drills for camp as well
  23. Bogle is an interesting one. Highly recruited, unanimous 4-star recruit out of HS. Played a couple of years at Florida, then moved to Michigan State. Never became a regular starter or lived up to his potential out of HS. Very good athleticism and build, stronger than his weight would suggest, he's extremely lean, twitchy, good get off, has an excellent spin move, and a good motor. Boyd is similar. Polished, good frame that could hold more weight, excellent top-end speed, 3-star kid with polish who struggled to find a spot till his last year. Battle is pretty much the opposite. Instantly stepped in and started at the corner for NC state. tremendous size, mediocre measurables, but his speed plays better on the field than it tests. Quick twitchy, explosive type. Physical, very aggressive press corner type. Struggled more in zone, but his aggression is also going to be tough in man cover. Could be penalty-prone in any pro league. I think his wheels play much better in the CFL, and his fit could be good with JYs system if he can adjust. Played a ton of snaps, like 2400. If he can reign in his aggression and fit in with the system, he could be a very high-floor guy. Mayes has an interesting build for a wr, almost closer to a rbs build. Doesn't have great measurables, but a good track and basketball guy in Hs. Looks to have good hands. His qb, Ridder, was on our NL for a good while. They've seen a lot of him. He's got good polish, shifty runner. Whenever I see guys at WR in that 6' and under, 200 and under range, I wonder if they have been over looked alot for not jumping off the stat sheet, or if they are an overachiever. Mayes hands and polish make me think he's the overlooked type. I wonder if they view him as a slot back. If he can master the waggle, he could go far up here, very quickly.
  24. Glad we are once again free of jones, for a year atleast.
