part of the turn off for me with the Saw character was that he is an old jalopy of a man-robot. When you look at Anakin/Vader or even general grievous they had kinda cool new suits to keep them alive, whereas Whitaker was just a walking junk pile with a respiratory mask. I dunno maybe i expected more from the "robotics" in this far away galaxy, but even K-2SO was little under whelming
-
the only thing i took away from Whitakers role and his men was they were the "Rebels" while characters like Cassian were part of the Alliance, 2 separate factions both opposed to the empire. basically to further the point that it was everyone vs the empire. although now that i think of it, i would have rather seen Jabba the hut capture the pilot and sell the plans to the rebels/alliance. give him a little more relevance and showcase he was always just looking out for his own interests

that really was a great match, had a bit of everything. Though given everything in that match Okada's rainmaker finisher was a bit lame imo

I thought I read at the time of her heart attack they had just finished filming episode VIII so they may not neis some d to do anything this year but episode IX will likely have CGI. In any case this Is some ****y news, rip leia

I still think a deal with Nichols will be done, just curious who the next man up is for everyone? Do we trade for Franklin? sign DD if he hits the market? Cato? Davis? I'm a little scared of Franklin, as it has Drew Willy 2.0 written all over it, I think i'd be more comfortable signing DD and holding onto our picks

wasnt a big fan of SH, FF or MK, though i would slightly grade MK higher than street fighter

in watching prince of persia again last night and with your review of assassins creed, i can't help but wonder if they have ever had a good video game turned movie to date? I suppose resident evil 1 was alright but nothing above and beyond

its interesting watching the series over again with all the hindsight available with rogue one and TFA. I was watching the empire strikes back yesterday and when Obi Wan says "that boy is the last hope we have" and yoda counter "no, there is another...skywalker" at the time the obvious conclusion is Leia, but I was wondering last night, with their ability to see the future if he could have been referring to Rey, who - if Luke's daughter - is a skywalker as well. It's obvious Leia isn't the saviour and in fact gives birth the Kylo Ren, the current antagonist
-
you're likely right about the lie, Obi wan was still lying to Luke when he was giving him Anakin's lightsaber. theres certain things tho that never add up for me, like C3P0 never once babbling that not only he was built on tatooine, but was built by Anakin Skywalker. Even if he didnt pick up on Luke's last name, he was standing right there as Obi Wan was talking about Anakin to Luke. I did see a comic before though that had Vader kind of have a moment with a dismembered C3P0, at least they kind of acknowledge the connection

You would think if they were hiding luke he would have been given a different name at least, like Owen Lars Jr. and/or not told about his father altogether, I mean they had him since birth so it's not like Luke would be any wiser. If he found out the truth at a much older age (like in ANH) he might be able to understand why the deception. theres some hole in that story line though, If Owen and his wife knew why they were hiding/raising Luke as he might have been seen as the galaxy's last hope one day against the empire, training him young would have been imperative, not the crash course he had to have with Obi Wan on the millennium falcon and on dagobah. I also would have liked to have seen Leia have a bit of control with the force in TFA. If Luke could learn that quickly, I dont see why after the battle of endor he wasn't like "Hey sis, let's practice". I get the fail safe idea, just seems like they were asleep at the wheel with when they wanted to deploy these could-be Jedi. The empire just kept getting stronger and they remained unlearned
-
it would be interesting in the "What if" world Leia had gone straight to Tatooine to find Obi Wan instead of side tracked to Scarif. Would Obi Wan introduce her to her brother Luke then and there and then train them in secret? The empire wouldn't have been anywhere near Tatooine chasing droids, so they wouldnt have been bothered. Also makes me wonder why this wasn't the plan to begin with. When Luke and Leia were babies it was important to hide them from Vader, but at what point do you say ok it's been X number of years, heats off, lets get back to training the next generation of Jedi
-
I suppose they could have cleared things up, but if bail left for alderaan before Leia with the assumption she was going to Tatooine with the escort of Admiral Radus, but enroute to tatooine or just before they left it was an all or nothing last ditch effort to help at scarif to get that battle plan, they needed Radus' ship it might have been a split second decision. Now dont forget too, if Leia doesnt go to Scarif, she doesnt get those death star plans, so until she gets those plans, she is just another rebel alliance member with a title
-
I wondered that too, and read some stuff on it, like the Tantive IV was damaged from an earlier mission and was docked on Radus' ship for repairs when everyone was called to arms at Scarif. So she may have been intending to go to tatooine, but was sidetracked. It's clear tho once she took off from Scarif she was going directly to Tatooine, hence why the escape pod with R2 and C3P0 was able to make it there with ease

theres currently a novel out there called Star Wars: Aftermath that kind rolls along the lines of the empire didn't completely fall after the battle of Endor, that talks about factions of the empire basically still counter attacking but their base of operation pushed to the outskirts of the galaxy. I dont know if it's good enough for a movie or not at this point, but I'm sure who ever did the clone wars cartoons probably has something about this in mind already. TBH i read this thread before seeing the movie last night so I was specifically watching to see how they did Tarkin and Leia with the CGI, it was a little obvious when you know it is what it is, but my son thought Tarkin looked pretty good considering, I thought Leia was better even if she was in only for a moment. I dont think it would be a big box office hit if it was all like that (or even like the way Beowolf was) but it's doable

Ive seen a few theories, like he was an admiral in the empire, or someone known as the operator, i dont think snokes age is revelant because RO-TFA is about a 30-40 year gap (have to imagine Luke and Leia are about 17-18 in ANH, and Kylo and Rey are about that age in TFA) Luke and Leia look about 60 Snoke also looks like he got the piss beat out of him at some point, so that could factor into his appearance. he looks kind of burnt tbh with alot of scar tissue around his face which makes age guess extremely difficult
-
if there was a way to tie snoke with the sith of old like before the rule of two, it could serve well for a yoda movie that said, I've read snoke is imposingly big but it's funny they try to make vader the same way, Spencer Wilding who plays Vader in RO is 6'7" yet Hayden Christensen is only 6' and before that David Prowse was 6'3
-
it seemed like they did a real long zoom in of vader's castle, which is cool cuz now that i think of it, you never see a "home" for Vader or the Emperor in any of the movies, same with Kylo Ren in TFA, just always chillin on a star destroyer or flying around in shuttles/tie fighters
-
I agree with the Lars San Tekka, he could have easily been written in as General Draven's role (guy who was giving Cassian orders on Yavin) as far as solo stories, if they are doing a Han Solo movie, then I agree with Obi Wan, but when would you time the movie, while he was general during the clone wars, or as old ben in exile? you can pretty much say episode 1-6 is the vader story. I'd like to see a Yoda movie myself but in his real young days I saw some conspiracy thing on FB a friend was trying to tell me that Mace Windu is Snoke lol is all i said though the pic they posted of the 2 was kind of similar only snoke was the after math of Windu getting electrocuted out the window
-
I definitely agree with the points of keeping it simple and not going too deep, but I dont think it would have complicated things to much to take a few minutes out of the movie to say (as Krennic) ok so Tarkin is going to take credit for my death star, but it's flawed, I will let him give the flawed weapon to the emperor while I build a bigger and better version in the Starkiller and will eventually succeed where Tarkin will fail with the emperor. Unfortunately they may need a Rogue "Two" between ROTJ and TFA otherwise to explain how the rebel alliance allows the first order to rise and build this weapon and not being able to stop it. speaking of which i did find it interesting that in RO there were Rebels and then there was the Alliance (2 separate entities) like above, i've always thought it was one in the same, but just 2 groups fighting for the same cause
-
I dunno the whole premise of the movie is based off the other sequels, so it can never really stand on it's own. IMO it's the connections to the others that makes the movie worth watching, and after watching ANH before bed last night, I think they did a great job leading into the opening sequence of ANH with Leia's ship being chased by Darth Vader in a Star Destroyer. The only reason I mention the Starkiller from TFA is because so far there is no real backstory on why the First Order built it, especially after the Death Star failed twice, you would think this mega weapon plan is no good at some point, when the most effective results have come from large number of stormtroopers, which the first order has as well. and well... in TFA the Starkiller fails too so that's 0 for 3.
-
as far as the story goes, I think they could have tied in TFA a little bit too. In attack of the Clones on Mustafar I believe when the bad guys are having a meeting they show a hologram of the death star, that was like 20 years before ANH so it clearly takes a while to build these things. After Tarkin kind of usurps control of the death star from Krennic, and knowing there is a flaw in the base, Krennic should have gone to Galen Erso (prior to knowing he was the one who sold them out) or one of his crew on that base in Eadu and proposed making a new and better death star... the eventual Starkiller that comes into play another 20 years later in TFA. Obviously Krennic wouldn't have seen it move forward or complete but those plans would be out there, unaware by the emperor, the rebels and eventually fall into the hands of the first order

i too felt kind of bored at the beginning, but it picked up nicely. Though I went to see hacksaw ridge last week i picked up one of those upcoming movie mags and it had a "meet the new droids" section in it, while it had a bigger piece on K-2SO, it had a black R2-D2 called a C2-B5 an imperial droid, did anyone notice it in the movie? i sure didnt

I saw Rogue one tonight with my kid, we both enjoyed it. all in all I wasnt a fan of the constant i am the force may the force be with me chant by Yen but I'm a bg Yen fan - just binge watched the Ip Man movies again about a month ago, so i was hoping for a little more from him. the way they made the trailers seem, I thought forest whitaker was going to have a bigger role
-
I suspect nichols will get 350-375K + incentives of around 50K (so 425K if he meets them all) which isnt's that bad cuz if he has a great season to meet the incentives he's worth 425K imo

im a little surprised Heath over leggett tbh. they were tied (at least at one point) in INTs but Leggett brought a lot more to the team
