The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

I'll give them this though, this gave the franchise a chance to have a real series finale considering the cancellation of the original series was so abrupt and sudden (like just before they shot the finale for season 😎

That's not unusual though. If you've been on a while(and this was a bad show that was successful) you better have a season finale with some type of ending even if you might get renewed. No show should go past 7 season IMHO.

But will they get an Olsen twins cameo?

well from what I understand Jeff Franklin gave up on trying to get them to return, besides I read somewhere that one of them didn't want to return anyway (which is kind of ridiculous even when Roseanne made her short lived return they found a way to work in both Lecey Goranson and Sarah Chalke)

I just realized something....if Whose Line is going to be on HBO Max as well does this mean it'll be uncensored?

all of a sudden it would make more sense that the Friends reunion would be on HBO Max

I assume HBO Max will have G rated content too.  I was being somewhat facetious but an unrated Head of the Class revival would be fun.

man this could screw up so much....but then again I'm not old enough to remember when a tv season would stretch into August

also Transplant has found a US  home, but know what has gone on with the Listener and that other Canadian medical drama that aired on CTV (it had hope in the title I think it's been a very long time) I just remembered what it was called Saving Hope

Excellent new docuseries on Netflix. Trial by Media.  Exploring several high profile cases of the past that were impacted by media coverage.

The Blacklist, one of my favourite  TV shows, had the filming of its season finale interrupted by the Coronavirus lockdown in /new York, but managed to complete the storyline in a very ingenious fashion.

The only real tv news I'm waiting on is whether Stumptown gets renewed... Still nothing on a S2.

Anyone catch season finale of The Blacklist? Due to Covid they finished it off using animation :D

Watched it. They used animation and split screen green screen and stitched things together- odd but got the job done.

For the first time in 4 years the Daytime Emmy awards will air on a broadcast network

This is an interesting piece of news

"Should you be terrified or exhilarated at the prospect of a gene-editing tool fueling a modern-day scientific revolution? “Human Nature,” a new film on the technology, braids the tool’s promise and potential perils into a riveting double helix.

The Dan Rather-produced doc, which was directed by Adam Bolt, focuses on CRISPR-Cas9, a technique that “programs” an enzyme to seek and find a specific position on DNA, then cut the molecule at the preferred location. Scientists can then add, delete or edit the DNA.

“I can cut any gene I want,” says Jennifer Doudna, the biochemist who helped develop the technology, in the film. She seems barely able to contain her excitement."

Now on Crave (an excellent and well-balanced documentary)
