  1. Well they just have to worry about him roughing his own QB at practice now. Bets on how.ong it takes him to get a roughing the passer penalty?

Now that he plays for the Bombers he's guaranteed a 3-4 game suspension... when he played for Toronto a minimum fine was sufficient...

  2. I've been wondering about Tchassakid Player for a while now.... last week some time I posted a question whether anyone knew anything about him and his intentions, but I can't remember which thread that was in and which site ....

Anyway, I'll pose it again.... from what I've read and seen in interviews I was wondering if he has strong roots in Texas and is even considering a CFL career? I guess his attendance at the combine suggests he is, at least, interested

  3. I like the idea of Wild at MLB... the bombers site lists him at 6'0, 207lbs, he could probably get up to 215-220lbs ands maitain his speed and athleticism... would still make him a smallish MLB but defintely big enough to play there.... I wonder if they envision Newman, Wild and Parker as our primary LBs...

The biggest benefit to having Morley at C is his experience... I think Lavertu or Goosen will be given a very serious opportunity to start from day one...

  4. Sounds like both Lavetu and Goosen are our guys, sounds like one of the two will be a blue bomber next season.

Will it be the natural centre? or will it be the centre who can play guard also?

It's an interesting dilemma here actually.

The Bombers need a olineman, specially a centre but really more specially a centre and a guard really... i mean greaves is one guard but who is the other? swiston? pencer? we just don't know. maybe dan knapp? i have no idea, not sure they do. So really we need a centre yes but it wouldnt kill us to have a guy who can play guard too. Sounds like  Goosen could be our centre but he could also be our starting guard opposite greaves also.

Tough Dilemma, the sexy pick is lavertu, he is the natural centre, Smarter pick long term might be Goosen tho due to versatility to play different spots on the line.

    January,Greaves,Lavertu,??,??. Morley.

    January,Greaves,Goosen,??,??. Morley

    January,Greaves,Morley,Goosen,??. ??

Wish we could take them Both actually, The natural centre plus a guy who could backup centre and probably convert to guard pretty nicely in Goosen.

I'm wondering why you have Morley pencilled in at RT and not Neufeld??

  5.

    Depressing news for everyone.

It affects the possibility that Ottawa may have been pondering Smith with their first pick.

Can anything else happen to keep Lavertu away from us?

    2013 Season ends...

    1. LDT is a can't miss prospect Ott will take him and we'll get our C of the future..... turns out LDT is too good for the CFL

    2. Well Ott is strong at C, they will likely take Focault and we'll get Lavertu.... Hage retires and now Ott is weak at C

    3. Quinn Smith impresses so much he could be on Ott's radar for 1st overall and we get Lavertu.... Smith tests positive for banned substance....

No, I'm not sure the "football gods" can really do anything more to us in this scenario...

  6.

If Neufeld starts at tackle, that's worth the second round pick...

    Most definitely.

Do you think he is good enough to start at tackle though? I am sceptical.

I thought he played well in Sask at RT... and terrible at RG.

But, that was before the injury so we'll see.

I guess I am unfairly basing my skepticism on some of the opinions of my Rider friends.  (Having Rider friends is my first problem…I know.)

I haven’t actually seen him play myself, so the nervousness about Walters abilities may not be fair, it’s just that I have had more than one person tell me that Neufeld wasn’t that great. Maybe they were referring to when he played at RG.

Who do you think is a better evaluator of talent, Rider fans (who typically dump on a player as soon as he's no longer a rider) or more than one CFL general manager?

PS I changed it to Neufeld cuz I'm assuming that's who you're talking about...

They look a lot like Calgary's black unis to me.

YES!  Thank you.  I was like, they look like someone else's uniform, but I couldn't remember which team.

Probably couldn't have been that hard... the only other team that wears red and black!  :P

But I agree that the all-black and all-white looks very pale... I also thought a team called redblacks would feature a little more red on their jerseys.... it's just the numbers on the homes and basically non-existent on the roads.... just changing up the pants would make a big difference, red pants at home and red or black on the road

I'm very tired today!  LEAVE ME ALONE *runs into my room crying*

    Sorry about that  ;)

  8. Did Walters make a mistake trading the 2nd round pick for Newman?  If we had that pick we could have picked Quinn Smith and still have been in play for Goossen.

When Walters made that trade he claimed that he wasn't worried about tradding that 2nd round pick because of the lack of depth in the draft.

Hypothetically let's say we pick Smith at #2 and Goosen is there at #11, the question then becomes is Neufeld better than Goosen?.... Walters believes he is and that's the justification for the trade....

Does anybody know more about Tkassakid (??) Player?.... From what I've read about him I'm wondering if he is even considering a CFL career.... seems like he has pretty deep roots in Texas now and may be looking to start a "regular" career there...

  10.

    Odd.

In the story, Buono says he didnt give Jyles a "ton of money" when he signed the contract, which implies to me he gave him *some* money.  So did Jyles take the signing bonus cash with no intention of reporting?

I highly doubt Jyles got any upfront money. Buono said Jyles had only agreed to terms - doesn't say whether the contract was actually signed.

Lowell Ullrich from the BC Province reports there was no signing bonus...

"It happens, and with no signing bonus at play all the Lions have really lost at this stage is a month of expectation"

  11. I would like to see stiffer penalties for cap violations, but I recognize that this current Saskatchewan amount is really quite minor.   I would propose that an escalation should occur for repeat offenders, with a re-instatement after 10 clean years.

That being said, taking draft picks, or moving down in the draft, is NOT an easy solution.  Many teams trade (or swap) their draft picks, often a couple of years in advance.   Is the receipient of a draft pick to pay the price?   Can you imagine if the Bombers traded to get Sask's first round pick in 2015, but they were a small amount over the cap and that draft pick was now voided?  We'd be screeming.

I think that draft picks would be a last resort.   I'd rather subject a serious multiple offender (which they are not) to other sanctions, such a "dispersal draft" where they protect 20 players, and the other teams in draft order get to take one other player off of their roster.  That would be much more effective than taking draft picks, and solves the 'previously traded' draft pick issue.

Did you really think this one through???? Since in this hypothetical situation the Bombers now own that draft pick, you're say that if Sask went over the cap, the Bombers get penalized.... Obviously the penalty would be to take away or downgrade the offending team's highest draft pick...

or maybe I'm reading it wrong and you're suggesting that the Bombers have committed the infraction and get penalized with the draft pick we acquired in a trade... which would make sense..

  12. Very talented RB. Formerly of the NFL Detroit Lions. Good blocker, excellent receiver but has had some injury issues in the NFL.

Some injury issues is a major understatement... The guy could never play more than 3 or 4 consecutive games... too bad too, he is phenomenally talented and woulda been a star in the NFL if he stayed healthy...

  13. Got a feeling that Winston may choose baseball. Was a 15th round pick coming out of college. He has said he going to stay in school during the winter 2015 semester to play baseball. Although he most likely will be a #1 pick in the NFL there is also a chance he could be a 1st round pick in the MLB draft. If you look at during the length of a pro baseball and pro football career he would probably earn more money in baseball even if he was a middle of the road starter or reliever.

He's mentioned that he wants to be the next great 2-sport athlete.... trying to be the next Bo or Dion.... also known as a red flag to NFL GMs to not draft a guy who isn't 100% committed to football... if he doesn't change that stance by NFL draft time, baseball will be his only option...

  14. My problem with Smith is he's a major project... especially on the O-line... he may be able to start on at DT from the beginning or in a rotation with Lucas and/or Thomas...  It seems like Lavertu is the only guy close to a "sure thing" in this draft....

another possibility being thrown around is taking Focault to play RT and converting Neufeld to C.... we seem to have a bunch of project o-linemen but none appear to be centres....

    January - Greaves - Neufeld - Penser/Morley/Swiston - Focault ???

  15. Dont see Glenn here in Winnipeg to be honest. Not via trade. We just dont really have anything to offer them.

However, if no other team is offering anything, and I doubt they are, because pretty obvious Glenn wont play for Ottawa, the REDBLACKS will be forced to release him.

You dont want that in the locker room on a new team in year 1. This has disaster for Ottawa written all over it really.

No team it seems will trade for the guy and the ones that might, i dont think they are offering much at all.

They dont have too, Hey... heres the thing, you think other GMS want to help out desjardins and ottawa? I dont think so, Ottawa had their choice of guys to chose from.

You think Wally is happy that they took demarco from him? You think Huff is happy they took Glenn? Nobody will help ottawa out.

The way i see it, Ottawa either trades him for basically nothing or they release him. I dont see Glenn in Ottawa this year at all. I dont see him here either.

But... If im a GM and im talking to Ottawa, i offer them pretty much nothing cuz really, i dont need Glenn that bad, Not as badly as ottawa needs to get rid of him.

Dont care what anyone says, Glenn in Ottawa is a huge disaster waiting to happen, That locker room could become quite toxic with Glenn there.

Ottawa pretty much screwed the pooch on this one, They had a valuable piece in Glenn who could have gotten them a few pieces, but... Now that everyone knows Glenn wants out, I doubt they get much if anything for him and will be forced to release him. Similar to the Mike Kelly situation, We all know MK wanted Glenn gone, he even said so, tried to trade him but couldnt cuz teams knew if we didnt trade him, we'd just release him. Thats what happened. Its happening again except this time, Its glenn who wants out and not the coach or GM who wants to send him packing. When a player says he wants out, well, there is no reversing that. He is either gonna be traded or released, my money is on being released cuz other teams know exactly that. Why trade for him when you could sign him as a free agent, cuz ottawa cant trade a guy who other teams know will be released. This is the CFL, there are 9 teams now, its not the NFL, this is a small brotherhood of sorts here. Why trade for him when you could get him for basically nothing when Ottawa is forced to release him.

I very much doubt that there are any grudges held about the players selected.... Huff knew Ottawa was taking one of his QBs, just not sure which....

Also I would argue that trading for him might actually be beneficial to us or BC cuz then it comes with his "cap-friendly" salary....
