  1. It may be too much to hope Ackie will choose the Bpmbers but it would sure be nice if he did.
  2. We had a version of this Nichols/Streveler debate when Willy was in the last of his death throes here. It was painfully obvious that Willy had lost all of his mojo and Nichols was an unknown quantity. It is not quite the same, as Nichols is not in the same dire straights as Willy but the concerns are that Nichols is beginning to show some worrisome traits and we do not know what Big Chris's ceiling is. Nichols deserves a chance to work himself out if this funk but we cannot expect the defence to bail him out every game. If Nchols continues to struggle against Ottawa, serious questions need to be asked about his ability to lead the team to the Grey Cup. Apart from Fenner, the rest of the team appears to have the right stuff, and this circumstance may not happen again, so it may be now or never. Nichols has shown that he can be a good quarterback but the question is, is he good enough? And the only place Fenner should be lining up is at the UI office. He looked as bad last game as any DB we have had of late, and we have had some real turkeys.
  3. We will look for you and root for you in 2020, Brady. What doesn't break us makes us stronger.
  4. Wow. Such sloppy tackling by the Als.
  5. Okay, I'm late posting my 2 cents' worth, but here goes anyways. Nichols was far from good last night but I am willing to cut him a bit of slack due to new receivers and a two weeks' layoff, but the next game he has to do waaay better. His throwing mechanics were off and he appeared indecisive at times. He's a veteran who is supposed to lead by action and example. Adams and Matthews were non-factors for whatever reasons- that has to change. Fenner was a disaster, time and time again- he has no excuses. Bighill has had better games. The Bombers looked like they were trying their damnedest to give the game to the Esks and the Esks were doing their damnedest to not accept it.
  6. The older I get, the better I was, too.
  7. There is still overwhelming support for Trump among white males and this is in spite of all his incompetence, racism and gynophobia . These supporters believe that Trump has the right as president to do anything he pleases without regard for the law, congress or senate. This same sort of mindset is functionally identical to the 1930's Germans. Some 40% of the American public think Trump is doing a good job.
  8. Agreed. I see the Esks' linebackers as the weakest part of their defence.
  9. If he can play in the CFL again, no matter where, that would be a bonus for him. I would be more concerned about him hobbling around like Bobby Orr- a 75 year old body in a 40 year old guy.
  10. Loffler has had a lot of owies so far in his career and this is a serious one. I watched him in the last Als game and he didn't look all that effective. Even if he wants to take another shot at the CFL, teams would be understandably reluctant to sign him.
  11. I think we are watching the end of the American empire and the emergence of a neo-nazi mindset in both the current administration and far too many American citizens. Trump believes that he is above the law and can run the government and policies by fiat with the Congress and Senate serving as rubber stamps. The religious right believes that America was somehow established as a theocracy and a Christian one at that. To this end, they believe with some justification, that Trump will serve as a "useful idiot" to give fundamentalist "Christians" primacy in all government functions and policy. They are willing to overlook Trump's admitted sexual assaults, marital unfaithfulness, racism and support of white supremacists so long as he delivers the oppression to "non-Christians" according to their wishes. Several of the fundamentalists have openly said that they believe democracy is incompatible with their brand of religion. Despite America's long history of the rule of law and constitutional democracy, there are those who would support a dictatorship as long as they are the ones who benefit. In Nazi Germany, there were Jews who supported Hitler, and British and Americans who were enthusiastic supporters of Hitler, and that dark underside of societies will always will be there.
  12. FYI: breakdancing will be an olympic sport next time. After that it will be either tiddly-winks or competitive knitting.
  13. Damning with faint praise. As in: "For a fat girl, you don't sweat very much".
  14. With the help of world-class recreational pharmaceuticals and an undying disdain for the Riders.
  15. Poblah was one of those, "Who is this guy?" picks but Waggoner looked to be able to play but decided his future was elsewhere.
  16. That's not the worst thing you could put on your papers. I had a university friend who was working at a menial job in summer with a hateful boss. When his last day there rolled around and he was the last to leave (because a lot of extra stuff got dumped on him and he had to finish it), he completed the work and urinated on it. So far as I know, he never gave them as a reference.
  17. Agree. I have noticed that in games where a 200+ lb running back starts breaking into the defensive backfield and punishing the DBs, soon the DBs start hugging the line and are much slower in chasing receivers. Then its open season.
  18. I believe that it is called, "grasping at straws".
  19. As regards the Rider/Argo game, it seems to me that the Argos have QBs (Franklin and Bethel-Thompson)who might be good enough, but I do not see the Riders as having anyone close to those (with all due respect to Mr. Bennett). So maybe my favouring the Argos may not be so wrong.
  20. Well, considering the circumstances of his death, he was definitely a knit-wit.
  21. The only "if" is whether he and Nichols have synced yet. I suspect we can expect a few plays where Matthews is open but zigs when Nichols expects him to zag. All will be well.
  22. He will have to Duke it out for that honour.
  23. Thank God our hospitals' ERs are being overhauled to make them more efficient.
