  1. There is a small percentage of right-wing (and left-wing) nuts who would elect Donald Trump even he was serving a life sentence for strangling a nun .in public. Maybe, just maybe, sanity will return to the extremists. The problem is that when people are functioning in rigid ideation, challenges to those behaviours are typically met with an exaggeration of those behaviours.
  2. Realistically, as good as he has been so far, the jury is still out on Rourke. In any case, if the Lions choose to have him play tonight or even in the WSF, they are a pack of idiots. They are likely one and done in the WSF and they have to weigh the risk against screwing up his promising future. Adams is not a saviour but has shown some ability to win, so the outcome in the WSF is apt to be the same in either scenario. There is a rule in gambling: Don't play with money you can't afford to lose.
  3. I believe this type of inflammatory rhetoric can be traced back to a rabble-roused by the name of Yeshua Ben-Yusof, who said outrageous things like "Love your neighbour as yourself" and "whatever you do to the least of these, my children, you do unto me". If He was alive now, He would surely be in prison or killed.
  4. Steve Bannon says Republicans will teach Democrats a lesson 'by bayonet' White nationalist and twice-convicted felon Steve Bannon told Kash Patel – who served as chief of staff to the acting secretary of defense under former President Donald Trump – that Republicans are going to go after Democrats "with a bayonet" if the GOP wins majorities in the United States House of Representatives and the Senate in the November midterm elections.
  5. And I saw him walk across a lake to heal a wounded swan.
  6. Apart from the medical clearance, much will likely depend on Rourke's subjective opinion, and driven athletes have been known to outright lie about their injuries so as to get right back into the action. Rourke doesn't impress me as that foolhardy, but who knows?
  7. Better than BC, yes, but in their last two outings, neither Maier nor the Cowgary offence looked sharp.
  8. You are forgiven. Go and sin no more.
  9. Stefanson is a sacrificial gesture. Anyone assuming the leadership of the provincial PC party now is akin to being named captain of the Titanic.
  10. Passenger aircraft are required to carry a transponder that transmits a continuous signal and can be used as a homing beacon. Shooting down a satellite is a whole lot harder.
  11. And apparently at least one major hydroelectric dam in the US is at risk of collapse due to historically low water levels.
  12. Bullspit. That would be tantamount to a declaration of war, and there is good reason to believe that Russian technology is way too primitive to do that anyways. They apparently are reduced to buying computer chips from Alibaba for their drones and have even stolen traffic light cameras from Sweden for their circuit boards.
  13. In France, churches do not take tithes- instead they receive $ from the government according to how many adherents they have and must pay property taxes. Not sure if this is a better system.
  14. Stroke victims often do recover most of their faculties, but for most it takes time for the neural pathways to be rewired. Ms. McCain may be one of the most moderate-appearing GOPers, but she is far from a big fans of democracy. Her voting record puts well to the right of center.
  15. True, but he has been predeceased by most of his brain cells.
  16. You don't have to be a chicken to tell an egg is rotten. And there not always two sides to a debate- there are enough violent, extremist people out there who abuse their free speech position-Putin, Trump, Bolsonaro, Orban and so forth. These need to be called out at every turn.
  17. Cruel and unusual punishment?
  18. Lawyer Who Fought Helmet Laws Killed in Motorcycle Crash While Not Wearing a Helmet A Florida lawyer who passionately fought against state laws requiring motorcycle riders to wear helmets was killed in a motorcycle crash while not wearing a helmet. Ron Smith, 66, was heading to a memorial service for another biker in August when he crashed his bike as he tried to slow for traffic in front of him. His 62-year-old girlfriend, Brenda Jeanan Volpe, who was a passenger on the bike, was also killed. She too was not wearing a helmet. Smith—who was a member of the Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments—represented clients who broke Florida’s motorcycle rules in cases which some say ultimately helped to overturn the state’s helmet requirement in 2000. “He thought everybody should have their own choice,” his friend Dave Newman said.
  19. Just the way the GOP likes 'em.
  20. 'Nation's Report Card' Shows Decline in Reading Scores, Record Decline In Math "All the students, regardless of their ability, are dropping," the commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics warned. Students across the U.S. have fallen behind in both math and reading in the past three years, illuminating the drastic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to results of the National Assessment of Educational Progress exams released Monday. The exams, often called the “Nation’s Report Card,” sampled about 450,000 fourth and eighth graders in more than 10,000 schools across the country between January and March. The last exams were administered in 2019, just before the beginning of the pandemic and a widespread transition to virtual learning. In the past three years, math scores showed the steepest declines ever reported by NAEP since its initial trial assessment in 1990, according to Peggy Carr, commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics. Eighth graders’ scores sank by eight points since 2019. Fourth graders’ scores were slightly better, but still declined in 41 states. Just 36% of fourth graders were considered proficient in math, compared to 41% in 2019. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/math-reading-national-exam-scores-decline_n_6356bd77e4b03e8038e1ecb8
  21. Can't see Harris playing with any degree of effectiveness this season, if he plays at all. Much of his success was due to a dominant O-line and the Argo's O-line is hardly that. Moreover, he has to learn to read the blocking, which was all new at the start of the season and will need to re-learned.
  22. So many cats, so few good recipes.
