  1. Hefney should be retiring as the first defensive back to ever win the Most Outstanding Defensive Player award. The 2011 MODP was going to a member of the Bomber defence, and he deserved the nod over Jovon. JJ was awesome that year as well, as was that entire D, but Hefney was the straw that stirred the drink. If Odell catches that ball, and the voters picked the right dude, Hefney would be remembered in a much, much different light.

  2. I've been a die-hard Bomber fan for over 20 years now. I think I'm done. The saddest part is I'm not angry, or raging about it. I'm not throwing things around, I'm not a cranky mess after a loss like I had been before. I've just, well, given up. There was a time not too long ago when my week would revolve around game day. The last three games, as soon as the Bombers came up against any adversity I'd just check out and do something else. Not because I'm angry. It's because I've just stopped caring. I stuck by this team, through thick and thin, and I hate it, but I think I've reached the breaking point. I didn't want it to end. This team gave me two decades of memories. I have a jogo card signed by Gerald Wilcox. When we'd play football at the park and kids were Joe Montana and Jerry Rice I was Rick House and Rod Hill. I have an adidas Milt Stegall jersey. I joined Ourbombers in 2000. I got a computer for university, got the u of m internet access, and the first thing I looked for was a place to talk Bombers. The first thing my son had was a Blue Bomber onesie. He had a t-shirt that said "I'm a Bomber fan because my daddy said so!". I want so very badly to still love this team. To say 'we' and 'us' like the passionate irrational Bomber fan that I used to be. To be one of the old dudes on the west side going to games with my grandkids one day. But it just isn't there anymore.

I was 10 when the Bombers last won the cup. I'm a father now. I've done my time. Friends of mine who were fans when we were kids who checked out a long time ago, I was giving them the "stick with your team" speech too. I want to love this team still. I really do. But I don't have the energy, the patience, or the temperament to keep gutting it out. The worst part is, above all of that, I no longer have the will. It has just been beaten out of me.

To the die-hard Blue and Gold who's strength to endure is stronger than mine: God speed, and see you at the Moose game.

  3. Not really related to the Riders sucking but....

Quotes from one of the Riderfan forum members  in regards to Craven Country Music Festival

-Funniest thing I ever heard was some drunk dude and chick hooking up one night out there, then realizing the next night they were distant cousins...

-friend of mine went to bed with his sister by accident back in 2009.

    Riiight. Accident.

  4. I thought I remember reading somewhere that one of the biggest opponents to the CFL expanding to QC is actually Laval University. They're drawing like crazy right now, and have no interest in sharing that market. Anyone else remember this, or am I just making stuff up / confusing this with mid-2000s USC and the NFL?

I will say Rider fans win the award for wearing rider gear in the most inappropriate situations.

What are some examples? I'm looking to be entertained.
    at the super bowl.

Walking through Circus Circus in Vegas in 2008, the Scotties in MJ a couple weeks ago during the finals wknd (when Sask wasn't even playing lol), Wheat Kings games and WHL Sask teams home games (this annoys me since the Sask WHL teams sell their own team merch and could certainly use some of that Ridernation $$$, it merely baffles me at Wheaties games), etc.

Not entertaining but just a couple examples off the top of my head.

I saw a couple of them at Comic Con this year. That was the most ridiculous thing I saw that entire weekend, and I saw a grown adult man swing around a cardboard axe wrapped in aluminum foil.

  6. So long as the CFL stays healthy and continues to grow I hope every bad thing imaginable happens to that insufferable franchise and their idiot fans. The green Team Canada jersey during the World Juniors in Regina was my tipping point. I hope they go 0-18 every year with every single loss being in as heartbreaking a fashion as possible. F*ck Green.

I'm a Bomber fan first, a Rider hater second, and a CFL fan third.

  7. Classic Migs. I still remember the early days of the "Other Bomber" site, when he'd argue that Curtis Marsh was definitely a better receiver than Milt Stegall. Then Matt Dominguez was definitely a better receiver than Milt Stegall. Then Jason French/Derick Armstrong/Jamel Richardson was definitely....

Also, Chris Szarka > Mike Sellers. Good times. Well, not really good times, but it's funny how some things never change.

  8. There will be no trade for Burris, it's just Madani stirring the pot & being a mouthpiece for Desjardins. And like I stated for the past 2 weeks....

@robvanstone: The word from Durant and the Roughriders' medical people is that there's an excellent chance of #4 returning at some point in 2014.

It's funny that you accuse Madani of being a franchises media mouthpiece and then quote Rob Vanstone of all people as your source for Durants health.

  9.

Crazy physical tools, but just way to raw. I was really hoping he would become what Zach Anderson is now at one point

I think he might be one of the more athletic guys to ever suit up for the bombers. I've seen videos of his leaping abilities and its just nuts. There's got to be something out there in the world of athletics for a guy like that. This sounds corny but he should consider giving pro wrestling a shot.

Hey, that worked out pretty well for a Stampeder D lineman in the 90s...

Penalties are related to expansion?? Uhhhhhhhhhh....

Yes, more players required means less talented players spread out across more teams. Which means we get more obvious mismatches that teams try to exploit. In those situations, the mismatched player can do one of two things: let his man beat him clean or do something that warrants a penalty. More instances where this happens means more times players get busted for it. Which means more flags. See ANY league in ANY professional sport the year of expansion. Penalties and bad play always go up. Always. Good players are a finite resource. Adding another team in a league of 8 where there's already a shortage of quality Canadians and this is a short-term consequence that you get.

Or, you know, the refs are just assholes. Whatever floats your boat. Uhhhhhhhhhh...................

No.. The refs are not assholes, they are simply ill trained and unable to do the job required of them.... It's been an eyesore for the league long before Ottawa came around again..

No, it means the refs are human. Go to any team forum for any sport in any league and within the first three pages you'll see this exact thread. This is not exclusive to the CFL at all.

It's worse this year because of expansion. The talent pool is temporarily diluted. We've got 24 starters who would've been backups last year and 46 guys who would've been unemployed. Same thing happened with the Renegades,

I have a little problem buying into that argument.  Even the back ups have known the rules for many years.

Fair point, but it isn't about whether or not they know the rules. They know the rules just fine. But now players are being put into positions that they are not skilled enough to play. A once-backup lineman knows you cant grab a d lineman by his jersey and hang on for dear life. A once-backup DB knows you can't grab a receivers jersey. But when John Chick is headed for your QB or Manny Arceneaux has beaten you deep, it's do that and hope you get away with it or let the other team execute on that play. A wider talent gap means more infractions are being committed. More infractions being committed means more infractions are being called. Happens every time a league expands, regardless of sport. You widen the gap between the best players and worst players and this is what happens.

  13. Maybe this has to do with the fact that fines are way more likely to be held up and not appealed the way suspensions are. When was the last time we saw someone get suspended, appeal, and not have the suspension be overturned? Khalif Mitchell? I honestly can't remember the last player to be suspended for something that happened between the whistles.

EDIT: Never mind. Sears. Still, I stand by my theory.

  14. 5'10" is about the minimum for the position. Physically, there should be little difference between players at this level, so giving away 2 inches is a big deal.

Suber has proven to be a good tackler but id' rather not have to rely on him chasing down bigger stronger receivers all game.

A player who is 5'10" and is as fast as, as physical as, and can cover as well as Suber doesn't start for the Bombers - he's in the NFL. Be realistic about what you want from your CFL secondary. If Suber was 3 inches taller he'd be Brandon Browner.

If you're working with someone - obviously no phone.  But I use mine for music (no ipod, just use grooveshark...).  Otherwise, I think I would go insane.  I too don't really understand people who text though.

And wait, dudes really blow dry their nuts...?  Gross...

At the gym I went to in Winnipeg before we left, they had a sign by the hair dryers that said, "Please use for intended purposes". They also had a sign by the couches that said, "Please do not sit naked on the couches". True story.

Other than that, how did you enjoy your time at the Wellness Centre on Leila?

It was awesome save for that :-)

I also used to be a member there, and still like that gym more than even my current one. But as weird as those signs were, they were very, very, very necessary. Especially the couch one. And especially when the couch wasn't a leather one yet. Yikes.
