  1. Wont buy at Pavs as there are no more Cap-Compliance buy outs so the Jets wont do that. Hammond sucked in the AHL too. I have no idea if Budaj has a poor attitude but I do know he wasnt thrilled about playing in the AHL. I think the Jets signed him as insurance in case Hutch couldnt hack the NHL. So if Budaj has time left on his contract, he might be an option and would surely be thrilled to play in the NHL.
  2. if I recall, some people speculated at the time of pouring that there might be issues due to concrete being poured in very cold temps. I have no idea if that's true or not.
  3. Im no expert but I believe there were design flaws. Wouldnt the sloping of the roof and concourses be from the design? Wouldnt the lack of insulation etc be something decided in the design phase? Remember too that it was sort of last minute when they realised they had not designed the Stadium with field access from the stands and had to cut places for stairs. Also, the best seats in the house, on the 55 yard line, are not seats, but a staircase. That's a design flaw (though one that every single person who looked at the plans should have noticed, unless Im just way off base and every stadium does that) I love IGF. It's beautiful. And compared to what SK is paying and what Calgary is going to pay and compared to what Hamilton is getting for their money and Ottawa, we have a palace. These are issues, no doubt, and some of them are boneheaded but there will always be issues on any project like this (or really any build, such as a home) where the owners haggle with the builders after the fact over issues.
  4. I thought franchises had learnt by now that building rinks that size was stupid. That raised my eyebrows too. The 40,000 seat Stadium also raised my eyebrows. How much do the Stamps draw? I guess Calgary likely draws bigger events also. 40,000 permanent seats might make it expandable to 50,000+ for grey Cup which would be cool. Calgary is a big city though so maybe their market can support a 21,000 seat arena without suffering from too much supply versus demand. If you think about it, with 8000 people on the Jets wait list, assuming each person bought two tickets, we could have sold 29,000 season tickets (I realise some would be mini packs etc but some would also buy more than two).
  5. Pavs let in a goal that A LOT of very good pro goalies have let in over the years. It happens.
  6. Because goalies need games and starts to grow their abilities and learn from exp. Regardless of what they do with the goalies, they'll want Hutch, Helle and Comrie all getting starts somewhere. I agree, a Helle/Hutch combo would be nice for the Jets...but my guess is they'd rather have Helle start 55-60 games at the AHL level over what, maybe 20-30 at the NHL level. But hey, I work a desk job and have been way off about virtually everything all year.... Kane's still a Jet, right? I agree with this. Helle *seems* like he could be the real deal. No sense messing with it. At 21 years old, take it slow and steady. Especially with Comrie going to the AHL next season, you have two young guys in the A. Comrie will need to ease into the pro ranks too. If they can move Pavs, it makes sense. $4 million would go a long way to resigning Frolik, Ladd, Buff. if they feel Hutch can be the everyday starter. just sign a cheap veteran back-up. What is Budaj's deal? if he has time left on his contract, he could be with the Jets next season in that role.
  7. A quick glance at Pavs stats puts him comparable to the following: Miller Halak Ward Allen Varlamov Ramo Niemi Kuemper Bobrovski Lehtonen Neuvirth etc So I think there would be interested parties.
  8. I dont think its negligent that the architect had never designed a major stadium before. If he had done his due diligence and engaged the right experts, he could have designed a great facility. And for the most part he did. But Asper was clearly led to believe this guy was capable of doing it and Triple B felt the same way. At some point you'd have hoped there was some sort of over-sight that would have caught some of these issues that seemingly happened as a result of the architects lack of experience and due diligence and perhaps thats where the general contractor comes in.
  9. I agree. An NHL franchise is certainly a revenue generator for government. The CFL much less so just due to volume of games and taxation. But my argument when people didnt want the government to help build IGF was two-fold: 1) the team was not privately owned so unfortunately, it fell to the public to finance the new stadium 2) a new stadium was a cost of doing business and if there was not a willingness to get IGF done, then fold the team forever, which Im sure no one wanted. Sure, you might never make back $200 million, but thats the cost. When I sell my Jeep, I will never make back the money I spent on it, but if I want a Jeep, thats the price. As we are seeing in a very small sample size with IGF is that a new Stadium *can* be a profit generator even factoring in loan payments.
  10. I was thinking Edmonton too. Not sure they'd want to have Helle as the back up here next year. I think he's only 21. If they maintain their draft and develop model, they want him playing a lot, not sitting on the bench. Not need to rush him at his age. The issue I have with Hutch is, Pavs is a safety net right now. Hutch hasnt proven he can be the every day starter without that safety net. Every goalie has bad games and bad goals. Hutch needs to find a consistency that is everyday high level.
  11. Depending on who is available in the UFA market, they might be able to get some value for him too. He's still young, has an okay contract and I dont think he's been so bad that he's considered a write off. But that might be where the Jets get some dollars back they might need for Frolik, Ladd, Buff.
  12. I doubt we move Pav. Unless we get a proven vet for cheap. Cant see us going into next year with Hutch and Helle or Comrie I agree that makes the most sense. Hutch is still on his low contract for one more year so Pavs money doesnt really mean anything. But the Jets have been consistent in saying if a player doesnt want to be here, they dont want him (though they held on to Kane even after he asked for trade). Depending on what happens here the rest of the way, if they feel Hutch is their guy, they could look to move Pavs in the summer and sign a cheap back up as they did the first couple years.
  13. That's what I thought. Given Maurice's comments you have to wonder about Pavs future.
  14. But why? The stadium owners hired who they hired. My parents had insulation done at the house last summer. Turns out their work was shoddy and they now have problems. We don't need an inquest to tell us why. We know why. Unless there is some basis for assuming there was fraud or something untoward done by the government I don't see this as anything but what it is. If BBB recoups costs from the other parties And remedies the issues why should we spend even more money on what amounts to a political witch hunt. You said it. Maybe there was fraud involved. I just think that a screw up this massive has to be looked into You don't start having inquiries just to confirm there was no fraud. Where do you think the fraud came in? Think the government conspired with the builder to do shoddy work for some reason?
  15. I would have no issue with land donation under a plan that is primarily privately financed. The land is an asset of the people. Selling it for cash is one way to use the asset to serve the people. But it's not the only way.

  17. Are you kidding me Calgary? Five straight goals by the Flames against the Ducks. Wow.
  18. Maurice did say pavs would be starting at some point soon
  19. I wonder what Maurice thought of Pavs reaction to the goal. He glared at trouba and apparently made a WTF motion to him. As people have said, how often do the players do that to him when he lets in a bad goal? Never.
  20. @mikeoncrime: Pavelec sounds like a player who is pretty much done with this team. And Maurice sounds like a coach who is pretty much done with Pavelec.
  21. @bendersun: Reading between lines of @WiebeSunSports interview with Pavelec on Twitter, sounds like he wants to be elsewhere. Hmmmmmmm
  22. Not really. I said earlier I'd start hutch next game. There is a strategy involved that isn't just about last game.
  23. @garylawless: Paul Maurice on his starting goalie for tomorrow: "I have my guy in mind. And it wasn't a very difficult decision." hutch #nhljets
  24. No excuse for the pavs miss. But if hutch had played average that one goal wouldn't have been the difference. They lost 5-4 not 1-0.
