What about pending UFA Jiri Tlusty? TSN article below stating Canes GM Ronnie Francis will be unloading upcoming UFAs. Tlusty has 68 goals in his last 235 games - or about 24 over an 82 game season.

Postma and a 3rd/4th get the job done??

Nice move, Chevy!! Get well soon Wheels!

  2. Even if it's Winnik for Burmi straight up, is that not a massive overpay for us?

I'd love Winnik in our bottom 6 right now, no doubt. He's got good size and can score at least a bit more often than our current cast.

But Burmi is a former 1st rounder. We control his rights. Like Stafford, Winnik could very well be gone as a FA.

If we're moving #69, I'd rather see the return have term left, or RFA status, like Calvert.

  3. Overall, the Jets played real well yesterday. Special teams was the difference, and a fantastic performance in net from the league's best tender. If we play like that down the stretch, we'll be just fine.

Pavs played fine, ridiculous to put the blame squarely on his shoulders.

If Chevy wasn't banging the phones for another FW, he better be now. I love parts of Peluso's game...but he's just not a good enough 4th liner on a playoff team. We need another top 9 to move Thorbs to the 4th where he belongs. I think a 4th of Slater, Thorburn & Halischuk/Galiardi can be okay-ish-enough.

Well not to stir **** up but the rumour was that bogo and trouba were roommates and had drug related issues this season. Maybe this might of been a factor.

Good lord. Please think before typing. That was not a rumour. It was a post on the dirty. And it was wrong.

To be fair to Brandon (and I hate garbage rumors more than anyone, trust me) I heard the same thing from 3 different people in 3 different settings. That said, I still think it's utter BS.

hearing the deal being framed between #nhljets and #sabres is multi-player on both ends. So E Kane and more from Winnipeg

Wonder if Bogo goes back to the Sabres if Myers is involved in the trade.

He better not. The centre piece is Kane. if Kane and Bogo are involved I walk away.

Absolutely. If that's the ask, then the answer has to be 1st overall. And that ain't happening.

  6. Van is a wildcard, no question. But outside of them, no playoff team is entertaining a Kane trade until the offseason. So regardless of what our ask is, we just can't know all the possible offers right now. That's what worries me.
Don't get me wrong...adding a 1st, prospect and help on the 2nd/3rd line now would he huge for us...but again, add another dozen or more teams come draft time who may have 1st, prospects and immediate help to offer.

Question Chevy will undoubtedly ask himself is, how much better does a Chris Stewart or Drew Stafford help us now. I think it makes us better...but not overly so. Pass.

  7. Urgh... I hope Chevy doesn't get too enticed by what Buff is offering. *If* the rumoured packages being offered are true... 1st, prospect (Armeia, Grigorenko?), Stafford/Stewart... imagine what the offers would be like come the draft!

Personally, I think the "we won't get as much for Kane now" worries may have been a bit overblown (especially given the whole Kane scenario is so fresh).

Bottom line, how serious can you consider offers from 1 (maybe 2 or 3 teams tops) now vs 29 other teams at Draft Day.

    Pardy Enstrom

    That's a cup contender

    Say what?

Ok pardy chiarot as our third

Still a cup contender with buff and trouba

Can you honestly see Chevy dealing all that for an UFA after this year and an UFA after next year????

Do you honestly believe that line up with our two goalies with all their playoff experience are cup contenders????

You can also argue that Schiefele isn't a 2nd line center yet.

I really like the trade with Van for Horvat and the 1st and McCann.

I'd trade McCann and a D for a winger for immediate help if it is done before the deadline and as mentioned above, Horvat is a much better center than Lowry and having him in the organization would be a bonus. Little, Schiefele, Horvat, Petan as our centers looks nice to me.

    trouba morrissey

    buff     chiarot

    bogo   enstrom

    ladd little wheeler

    perrault schief fro

    lowry horvat komaschuk

    ehlers petan lipon

    hutch hellebuyck

I really like the looks of this lineup not counting what else Chevy will add to it.

I see where you're going but Petan isnt going to be a 4th center.  I think they see Lowry as the long term 4th line center with the idea the 4th line can play bigger and better minutes.  Petan will end up as a winger or 3rd line center.  But if they made that trade with Vancouver then Horvat likely slots into the depth chart as 3C.  And with guys like Ehlers, Petan, Kossy etc surrounding them, the long term vision for the team starts to come into view.  5 year plan might have been too optimistic...maybe not for making the playoffs because they *should* make the playoffs this year with the talent they have but when you start rounding the long term outlook into view, things look even better 2-4 years from now.

Just for the record, Komaschuk is 8-6-14 pts in 46 games in St.John's this year and is -22.  A caution for the high expectations from junior guys we *think* can make the jump to the pro game and succeed immediately.

I was just thinking...just imagine if Walters got BOTH SirVincent and Bryant! We'd probably have the best OL in the league:

    LT - Bryant

    LG - Greaves

    C - Picard

    RG - Neufeld/Goossen

    RT - SirVincent

We probably won't get either one and the OL will be worse than ever. Then Willy will get injured and the team will lose all the games then fold at the end of the year.

Just move the team to AZ already and save us the heartache, amirite?

  10. Buffalo Sabres blogger pitched this:

Kane for Stewart, Myers, 1st round pick (not Buffalo's).  Stewart is a UFA (though Im sure the Jets would be interested in resigning him), Myers has three years left.

The blogger went on to say the Jets need D help which I disagree with but hard to argue Myers wouldnt be a great addition.  He's another right shooting D man though so I;m not sure there's a fit unless they also trade Bogo or plan to keep Buff at forward.

Other suggestions were Kane for Stafford, Armia, 1st.  Joal Armia is a great prospect, big RW from Finland that can score.  He'd look good.

Bleh. No thanks to Stafford or Stewart. Paaaaaass.

  11. I really expect the Jets to come out strong tonight. A straight W will be tough, but they'll be right in the game I think. CHI seems to bring out the best in us. As does, this season anyway, adversity. I do believe the Jets have a tight room. They play hard for eachother, have all year, and maybe like during the plague of injuries on the blueline earlier, this will galvanize them and push them past this losing streak. One can hope.... Either way, it's GAMEDAY and it's FRIDAY. GO Jets GO.

  12.

    Chris Johnston tweet:

Surveyed some NHL scouts and feeling is that price on Evander Kane has dropped. One top asset could be enough to land him from #NHLJets.

***Interesting.  Will the Jets take less than most would expect to wash their hands of him?

That would be a colossal failure, IMO.

But to what Rich wrote above, whats your end game if you're the Jets?  An unhappy player with declining offensive stats who is *still* playing hard every game and has interest from other teams.  You either hope the price gets driven up through a bidding war and take your chances on the law of diminishing returns or you look at whats on the table, take the best offer and turn the page.

The Jets would get better offers in the summer.  So if they are seriously considering offers right now, its clearly because they want to turn the page and that would indicate to me that there is more than a track suit that is going on here.  If you were to become aware that Kane was a problem in the room or impacting morale, would you do what you had to do to move him today?

If they trade Kane, they will make the best deal they can.  So whether thats a top six, a prospect and a first rounder or two bottom six players and a prospect or whatever, it is what it is.

I think the bolded part is the most important. It seems pretty evident there's more to this, probably a lot more. I find it hard to even make a judgement as a fan without knowing the full story.

If he's actively doing things that are dividing the room, then yeah maybe you have to be more aggressive.  Safe to say, I don't envy Chevy's role in this. Regardless of what he does now, he'll have his detractors.

  13. I completely believe Kane to be banged up still. Has he not had lingering issues with his wrist? Those don't go away quickly, plus I think he was grasping at it after a hit a few games back. That said, if ANY part of the decision to sit him was based on health, Maurice would say that, no? It would have saved the team a huge headache the last couple of days.

Nah, I think it's simply a case of being late. I think what Bob is referring to is the larger scope of the the relationship between player and team.

  14.

The Hockey News has an interesting take on the Kane scratching saying that benching a player in his hometown in front of his friends & family is humiliating and could drive a pretty big wedge between team and player.

Well the Hockey News is a trash mag, no question. Besides, I'd say it's more humiliating for his teammates on the 2nd half of a back-to-back & mired in a losing streak to not have one of their better players.

Do you mean a slap in the face to the players by the coach for scratching Kane or a slap in the face to the players by Kane for doing something that got him scratched?

Losing streak.  B2B.  Wildcard fight.  And the Jets only had 12 forwards to begin with.  I bet Buff was thrilled with Kane.

#2. Kaner let the team down, big time.
