  1. The opportunity was there. Wolitarsky was essentially a nobody coming into camp last year too, there was a spot up for grabs, roles on offense up for grabs. The guys who showed versatility and made plays are still here.
  2. Dondre Wright should be a no-brainer signing for the Bombers if he's interested, given the situation with NI's in the secondary.
  3. Welcome to the CFL Draft. Who's Randy Colling? In the end what matters is who is on the roster, not how they got there.
  4. The problem with the lens a lot of people are looking at these cuts with, and will look at cuts in football generally, is that decisions are made to build the best team today. The contracts aren't long enough to work otherwise, and there's really not a lot of practice reps to go around to develop players, practice is for game prep unless you're a non-competitive team. If a guy isn't good enough to play he can't develop in the pros, plain and simple.
  5. Or it's how you end up paying Brock Ralph 6 figures hoping he'll be good because he's tall and fast.
  6. Think it means Oliviera and Augustine made the team, plus the fullbacks. Also Simonise lost out to an import receiver/returner. Too much competition to coast onto the roster.
  7. Bennett is a crazy athlete but he doesn’t have the accuracy to consistently hit those midrange passes that CFL offenses are built on. Have only seen a bit of McGuire but he’s shown some passing ability. Bennett is more of a thrower. For a 3rd string guy who isn’t going to get reps, might be advantageous to have a guy who can launch deep balls and run, but if I had to pick one to develop it would be McGuire. Hopefully we keep both for the time being.
  8. QB’s are a separate roster designation. If you list a QB as a RB that just means you have to bench you’re other RB, you don’t gain a roster spot.
  9. Nelson also played some DB in college, could come in handy never know. In 2015 Stoudermire was rostered as a WR and played DB in a game.
  10. Tait can't say Proulx...says Proool. Kind of grating after the 4th time.
  11. Really nice use of the waggle by Whitehead there too following under a couple clearing routes and making that cut to the post to get the pass, then once he has the ball no one gets close to him, jukes the only guy who had a chance out by 10 yards.
  12. Whitehead made a move there to get to open field that Lankford couldn't even make in his dreams. That catch was also in traffic.
  13. Those new Als uniforms are a hideous rip-off of the University of Virginia's.
  14. Davis doesn't give two shits about Oakland. He was trying to move the team all the time to get money out of governments.
  15. Funny that he writes for a blog now, because the fact he made a career writing for a newspaper shows through that. Limit access to those who pay, don't find other revenue sources. Christ the Riders could probably get Pilsner or SGI or John Deere to cut a $50,000 cheque to sponsor the stream.
  16. You think? There's preseason tickets on StubHub for under $50 for all teams in that area, some GB tickets for $10. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Wonder how much of a risk the Bombers are taking, or if they are simply providing the facility for a fixed fee with some incentives for sales.
  17. Coombs needs to find health and diversity in his skill set.
  18. No. Came into game vs Hamilton and was brutal.
  19. Didn't start any meaningful game, started the last game of 2015 at the dome in Toronto.
  20. Davis isn’t mobile, but he is black so it’s often been stated that way. His biggest weakness has proven to be making a play when he has to move off his first read, he’s definitely a pocket passer, live arm. Ottawa liked him because they can envision him running a pretty standard quick read ball control offense, with a workhorse tailback . It will be interesting to see how that plays out with Elizondo gone and if any RB steps up into Powell’s place.
  21. Disagree on Roh. Only one in his league as a pass rusher is Jeffcoat, but Roh keeps his pads low and gets into his moves before his second step. Jeffcoat is more of a pursuit rusher, great at holding his gap, not as consistently quick into the pocket. Jefferson is a freak but doesn't have a lot of technical skill to get into the pocket, kinda all or nothing, great at reading QB eyes though and making plays on the ball. Either way, Roh isn't going anywhere. Those three are all special players, and all in their prime. Some guy with a speed rush on a bunch of guys who are going to get cut in a preseason game isn't going to take their job. If he hangs around and gets in due to injury and makes plays he has a chance.
  22. Roh is the best pass rusher on the team, also a guy who makes plays all over the field. They aren't cutting reliable veteran players in their prime, they are all-in to win this season. Cut those guys, minus their bonuses and the replacements and you're saving well under $100,000 in real money/cap space. Not even worth it.
  23. 1 point = elite. Sask headed for a "Tim Burke" era?
  24. And the rest of the QBs in the division make Masoli look like BLM.
  25. Guzzo stated in Quebecois media his first move as owner would be to fire all football operations staff. Probably not the best move in the middle of the season, even if they are low competence.
