Bye Week Thread: Complacency, Budget & Leadership,
Blue In BC replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Muamba's salary won't count against the SMS. It's a savings to cost of business perhaps but it can't be applied as a shift to Kelly in that sense. Bladek if he retires or is released but someone has to replace him. The Argos will have to make some choices to off set the increase to Kelly. We'll see how they do it. -

NFL week 3 is approaching and Ford still has no deal even for a PR. OTOH, Bombers will be going into game week 15 of the CFL season. If he doesn't sign back in Winnipeg before the practising resumes, he's going to be out in the cold somewhat. No deals and no game checks. The longer it takes the less value he has in 2023. He might become trade bait for a team that wants him for 2024. I wonder what he's thinking? -

The coaching / support staff is under a separate SMS. There is a problem with the concept but it has no impact on money spent on players. They should revise it so that it excludes severance salary if changes are made to staff. That becomes a limitation if a firing occurs. -

Raising the cap just means the same group of players is getting more money. Players going into free agency might move to other teams and vice versa for more money. Not every team is making a profit so some giant increase to the SMS is neither feasible or some miracle solution. It's always been a bidding war trying to get the best bang for the buck. Would Collaros play better if he was getting $880K instead of $600K more or less. Kelly gets over $600K after 10 games? It just means that players reaching free agency get more as the pie is larger. Desjarlais as another example. -

I mentioned it a few times and questions why it was taking so long to adjust and / or fix the problem. It's football. 12 guys run down field and the CFL is over 100 years old. Not much new to see here. Placement, hang time are not new terms. -
I'd rather have Jeffcoat available to play against the Argos and Lions than against the Ti Cats. For the moment I'll take this as just a maintenance game for him. The argument that our defence was hardly on the field doesn't mean he didn't actually get injured. It only takes one play. We'll see if he is back for the game against the Argos. He's a difference maker. OTOH looking forward to seeing Haba play again, he may be part of our future. I see Murphy got added to the 6 game IR and he was hardly on the field in his 1st game.

I can't remember if his new contract gives him a raise in 2023 ( above ELC ) or whether it starts in 2024. Either way we have to replace him with another player so savings if any won't be much. Still don't understand whether he is unable to play or they are just not willing to make a roster change at the moment? He'd be an upgrade over Maruo. It will be interesting to see if Streveler gets a call from the Jets after the injury to Rogers? -

I suppose they could take him off early since he's been on IR for longer than 7 games. Not sure if that means subject to SMS hit for any games beyond 12 ( two 6 game IR stints )? In the case of Rose and Wilson they moved them from 6 game to 1 game IR. That's what I would have expected if they plan on seeing Hansen moved to AR soon. -

He could return for the last part of the CFL season and still be eligible for an NFL option deal going into 2024. -
There were many reasons for our defeat. Essentially no group played 60 minute football. It only takes a couple of errors to lose a game. We gave up 3 points early because of a turnover. Houston and then Rose tried to undercut a pass resulting in a 108 yard TD drive for the Riders. Collaros had 29 yards passing in the 1st half. Schoen dropped a couple. Lawler dropped on. Our coverage and return games were as bad as we've seen in recent years. I wasn't impressed with the play calling on offence or defence.

Week 13 - Labour Day Classic, Bombers @ Riders
Blue In BC replied to MOBomberFan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Anybody have any idea what this new scheme is and why it still doesn't work by game 12? IMO it's just O'Shea saying it's a new scheme to shield the bad results and the players taking heat. Seriously. Kick and cover. It's not a new thing in football of any type. -

We'll see if they take any action. It should be announced today if they do. Of course it gets appealed and will not be processed before the season ends. As far as the 25 yard penalty and disqualification I agree. That said we were already on the 4 yard line so the penalty yardage wouldn't have changed much. -

I thought the new CBA changed the ELC min to about $72K? EDIT: According to the new collective bargaining agreement, the 2023 salary cap is set at $5,450,000 (average $121,111 per active roster spot) As per the agreement, the cap is fixed and will not vary with league revenue performance until 2024. The minimum player salary is set at $71,000. -

+1. There are also some older vets like Miller and Benson that might be in their last season. Augudosi is probably on a 1 year deal and he isn't on the AR at the moment. He may or may not even be offered a new deal for 2024. The 2024 team will be different. How different is just speculation but some good points are being made on how some of this might sort out. -

Augustine and Oliveria are earning nearly the same money @ $92K more or less. CFL ELC deal is about $72K? -
Wear and tear on players is cumulative during the season. I don't want to see someone like Jeffcoat on field for every play for every game and then have nothing left at the end of the season. Conversely if he's injured then having another DL like Garbutt or Fox would be critical.
-
While that's true it's a short term statement even if we're winning. New players need to be in the development process while we're winning. I don't want to wait until game 18 and find out we lost a bunch of starters in game 17.
-
It could be argued that the defence against the Redblacks was tired in the 2nd half and played into losing. Obviously 2 turnovers including a pick 6 didn't help. However, you could see the defence was gassed due to a lack of rotational players.
-
The defence going offside still doesn't allow the offensive player to cross the LOS before the ball is snapped.

You got your wish. We have nobody until Haba recovers. -
I think Parker is more suited to DHB than CB. So the real question is Rose better NOW than ADS who might be the player replaced. If the team feels Rose is not better then maybe we can trade him.
-
Did you consider that Rose should be available for the next game and does that change your thought?
