Bye Week Thread: Complacency, Budget & Leadership,
SpeedFlex27 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Of course, the Bombers are dealing with the salary cap. Every team is. Why do you think 5 teams were over the cap last season? The cap needs to be higher. It's going up by 100,000 next season. Every year players want raises. Inflation eats up just about all of that. So, rosters are constantly in flux with players moving everywhere. It's not just about Lawler. Chris Jones signed him for over $300,000 in 2022. He did the same with Eugene Lewis this past off season so that's what the market now pays. . What about teams overpaying Canadian OL beginning with what Ottawa is paying Desjarlais? Thanks to contracts to Zach Collaros & now Chad Kelly, elite CFL qbs will now make anywhere from $550-650,000. Dalton Schoen will want similar money to Lawler & Lewis. He'd be right in asking. But do you actually think the league will do anything about rapidly rising salaries & a salary cap that is now too small?? Like raising the salary cap by a million dollars? Or allowing teams to sign one player like an elite qb to a separate contract outside of the salary cap so that a significant amount of salary isn't eating up the cap? Thus making it harder to sign other stars & keep them from moving to another team? The league wil do nothing. The salary cap numbers are embedded into the Collective Agreement. To do so, would mean having to open up negotiations with the Players Association again which the BOG's don't want to do. Ambrosie is going around telling everyone that the league finally has long term stability with the Players. Opening up the Agreement would affect that stability. Not happening. The Coaches & Management Cap is a real negative. Another dumb idea brought in & foisted on teams by Randy Ambrosie & the BOG's. trying to cheap out in this area negatively affects teams in so many ways. But it looks like the Cap isn't going away, unfortunately. So, being tired is just part of the job. Coaches & administraors will just have to get used to it. -
CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

My son was at a Boise State qb camp while in Grade 11 back in 2006. During scrinnage, he pivoted to hand the ball off to his running back. It was incredibly hot that day at nearly 40 Celsius & the sun beating down. I guess his hands were sweaty. Anyway, he lost control of the ball & fumbled it. One of the Boise State defensive coaches started yelling, "Nealon!" Nealon!" "Nealon!!" Pretty funny... -
They seem to be making even fewer changes this year than before. Walters who has become absolutely invisible & O'Shea seem satisfied with the status quo.

Our OL in 2018, 19 & 21 were in their prime. We still had Couture & Desjarlais & that OL imposed their will on opposing DL's. They were physical, mean & nasty. We still would be if we had Desjarlais & Couture. Those 2 are gone which is a real shame & that unit is older & on the downside now. That great OL was a huge advantage for us back then. All successful OC's build a playbook to match the personnel they have. A dink & dunk horizontal passing attack, extension of the run game, spread the ball all over the field, need 7 yards but throw for 4, twenty seven play drives just doesn't work with the qb we have now. It barely worked with the team we had then with a physically damaged Matt Nichols.

Obviously a shot at Charmin.

The Bombers were outcoached. Scott Milanovich is a helluva offensive coordinator. He has really helped Taylor Powell. Tommy Condell had gone stale. With his pedigree, I expect Milanovich will be a HC again in the CFL sooner rather than later.

CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
SpeedFlex27 replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
While attendance does seem to be making a comeback in most cities in the CFL a little bit, the pandemic really hurt the Riders. They were seling out until the season got cancelled in 2020. It's never really come back. -
Babcock's career has become a cluster.... . He's done.
-
I think it's unrwealistic to think that Zach won't get hit. He will. Booch's point is that there are structural deficiencies in our defense. Lack of a pass rush giving Powell virtually all day to throw which affected our secondary.
-
Yeah, that was my point. Their adjustments weren't very good.
-
This. We aren't getting the performance on the OL we used to. Age & losing talent to other teams has really hurt our line. While not happy with his picks, Collaros did take some high risk, high reward throws that in other games he would have completed. The Defense worries me more than the offense. It's not good enough anymore & getting worse evrery year now. Our absolute refusal to address our DL issues has really hurt this team.
-
If we made adjustments yesterday in the second half offensively they were a total failure. This does seem to be a coachings taff who can't seem to make them. very little adjustments.
-
I'm not advocating we try to take receivers head off although that would be nice but a little physicality would be in order. Instead, we have a secondary that is reactionary to what is going on in front of them. Always passive & in constant chase mode. Now, you're not saying we should have had a bench clearing brawl, are you?

In July, it was a country music festival & now it's harvest hurting attendance. Funny, that wasn't a problem until the last couple of seasons. -

Why do we need a bye week thread when we already have a 2023 Blue Bomber Season Discussion Thread? Oh wait, it's the investment money man with another brainstorm. -
You summed it up quite nicely.
-
Been here for years. Back in the 90's Jack Wells was their spokesperson here in YYC. "And it turned out nice again".
-
Which is coaching. It seems incredible that a first place team at 10-4 could cause such consteration among its fabase as most teams would be happy with that record but let's face it. Too many huge hills & deep valleys. There's no consistency this season. We're a real Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde as well as bad road team.
-
That ad like doubled Abalon's sales & made this guy a local celebrity. It's so bad that it's good. The company is using the song again in their ads on radio in Calgary 40 years later.
-
Our secondary plays with pillows they're so soft. We punish no one anymore.

Pretty shocking stuff.

stigs17 Registered User Dec 3, 2005 82 2 26 minutes ago #328 Another file of now a mountain of evidence of how QUOTA HIRING isn't only wrong, it's EVIL. If they had any integrity, Dyce, Jones & Miles should have buried their heads in shame and handed in their resignations after the 5th loss they 100% created. Team is overmatched, but you will never win with a token quota hire group (Dyce, Jones, Miles) that would fail as Walmart greeters. SIckening seeing mentally disturbed transgenders dancing on the field, WTF? First they want a parade day, now these judgmental freak shows attack anyone not 100% into their sickness. Enough of the woke insanity and insulting those who fund all this woke insanity. Stop the quota hiring, get a quality QB, RESPECT those funding your business for decades, it's not complicated, OSEG! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I saw this on HF Boards a few minutes ago by a RedBlacks fan named Stigs 17. I wasn't aware hiring Dyce was a Quota Hiring. I don't think any CFL teams did that. The hiring of the assistants are Dyec's decision & not the team or CFL. The other stuff? I have no comments.
