You’re right. But again, Walters is Mos boss. It’s not only his job to cycle in talent, but to manage mos. Db, I think we went with bridges for fit and execution. I don’t agree with it, but it does make some sense. We struggled for a big chunk last year to get guys on the right page with JYs coverage. But once we got it working our D got worlds better. I hope we still move on from bridges this year.

That’s awesome thanks! Have to keep an eye on transactions. Maybe he’s headed here. Hopefully not some UFL or arena league.
-
Yep. Knew that was coming.

Looking at our neg list, loic fouonji is un signed going into camps, but he’s raw. Under 1k in 5 seasons 5 starts. Florieia is in camp with the browns. Lassiter is with the jags. Max mcleod is with the broncos. Zay Paige is available. Reggie Roberson is with the titans. Kaedin Robinson is trying to force an extra year in college. Deven thompkins is with the panthers. Seems like we are mainly going to be waiting for nfl cuts at wr, but we might not see any one with their pr size. Alexander Hollins is on the ALs pr. I’d even consider poaching a guy like Dorian Anderson off the Argos pr. A few other vet WRs have washed out like Bailey we could look at. Our wr core was handily underperforming a few years ago early on. We brought in namaan and suddenly every one was playing like their jobs depended on it.

He likely would say the same of any wr. But maybe his preferences are steering our decisions at wr too. Much of the organization was head over heels in love with McKnight as well though. Guy was too small for the speed/skill set he had and we kept running him out there expecting him to do in games what he did in one on ones and none padded practices. And it wasn’t happening. At this point, give Bailey a call or who ever you have to. Maybe make a trade. If it’s not air lifts, and our ability to scout/develop/utilize WRs is not great, it’s gotta be some thing. What happens if just one of wheatfall, clercius or Demski get hurt? Let’s be real, Demski won’t be healthy for the whole rest of the season. That’s an inevitability each year. When sterns and Case are the best we can do this early, it’s worrisome.

Yeah it’s multiple mistakes layered. The miss on letting Lawler go isn’t gigantic since it was an over pay, but it’s heavily worsened by all the other mistakes and misses. The cap going up makes Hamilton pay more reasonable too. Not airlifting in WRs over the bye was a mistake, and not having started now that schoen is on the 6 is another. We keep compiling mistakes, and bad judgement. We do it at de, and wr. That’s not just mos, de is more mos, wr is more Kyle. After spending soo many years offering top dollar to free agent elite WRs and getting scorned endlessly, it’s odd that we developed one and let him walk for not wanting to pay elite money, twice. Lawler isn’t just an elite tier wr in the cfl, he’s in a class all his own when it comes to hands. No one else is out here mossing guys at will. That’s our out imo. If we get him back. If some one else offers him top dollar are we really gonna chase? If we do how messed up would it be to pay him and not lawler? It’s not an admirable position. We have to get him and it has to work out or Kyle is gonna chalk up another L. Wheatfall, Wilson, Demski, and clercius offers a lot of promise. If schoen recovers a decent chunk of his former play then we are in a good position. Problem is we really need the next guy up for schoen too in the more likely scenario that he isn’t there quickly.

Vanterpool at T is a big one for sure. He took a big step forward this year, he needs to end up a T to stick though, and boy with age are we in need of the next guy up. I don’t think it’s mental stuff, he hasn’t been moving well. I think it’s physical issues. Yeah I think the knee is not where it needs to be. If he can get it to where he needs to be to start easing back in this year then that’s great. But given the time lost and snaps on a banged up body I’m not optimistic. If he’s on the 6, with 6 weeks in, I don’t think we have much chance of him being 100% healthy and back up to conditioning levels this year. Some chance sure, but not a lot. id love for us to do that, maybe vanterpool at T will help with run blocking. That should be the plan, but Calgary will be ready for the run too.
-
I’m not gonna write off schoen for life. I think he can still be a very effective player, when he’s 100%. We are close to the half way point and he’s injured, and was a fraction of his former self to start the year. As such, I am basically writing off any expectations for him this year. I think we are a couple weeks away from the point where he should be shut down for the year so we can get what ever best he has left for next year and going forward. Yeah it’s been a lot of whiffs and not finding any in league gems. And that’s a huge part of success in the cfl. Previously, we did great at finding guys off other teams scrap heaps who were amazing. It’s a good point that we regretted letting Lawler walk then paid him then refused to continue paying him that sum. He did have two stupid off field mistakes, but you can’t think those would repeat. You’re right, that he’s mos’ boss and he should be reining him in and off setting his weaknesses. He has to be ultimately accountable for failing to develop mos further the last few years too.

Yep same boat here. I was stunned at what lawler got and thought we made the right decision. Kyle can’t be blamed for not being perfect in hindsight. But being wrong about Kenny, wrong about dalton, and wrong about the 3 free agent WRs is more margin for error than a pro sports gm gets. That is a lot of fail piled up in one off season and one position.
-
Man I hope they actually rotate person in… watch him get less than 4 snaps. We did go with an extra starting Canadian rather than flipping an ni to imp. But maybe we will see more snaps from Adam’s. Less than 7 ol is a good move too. That said, I’m worried about our offence. It’s a lot of change and not much hope of an upgrade from the previous game. It’s hard to beat a team home and away in short order like this, so that plays big in our favor. We should play well off the bye too.
-
Yep, doesn’t have to be free agency. But you gotta find em some where. Toronto has been extremely shrewd in fa, but they have been hitting multiple stars in trades. Yeah that’s the worst. those are not ho hum over all numbers lol. That’s one game over a full season start to grey cup. He wasn’t inconsistent. You say qb is the number 1 problem, then lampoon lawler for not putting up better numbers? While Lawler has almost 600 yards and 7 tds with blm. He has more than 3 of our starting WRs combined, including Demski and schoen, and one less receiving td than our entire wr core. It’s fair to say that with out hindsight, we made a sound decision in not paying Lawler. The problem is we either needed to pay him or fill that gap with another high level wr. And we failed to bring that guy in.
-
Anthony Lanier was a big get for them in free agency. Grant was a big fa get, or maybe idk the reigning grey cup mvp nick arbuckle. Perception is not reality, Toronto spends in free agency, they do it very smartly though. No one produces and finds stars in this era like them either. They are also the most active team in trades. Cam judge says allo.
-
Sergio is a good point. Yeah I guess Lofton. Think rando is better though. And our only roty winner in the mafia era is schoen. Ouch.
-
1560+ yards 10 tds 22 games. Some huge games and some of the best catches in the league. Problem wasn’t his impact, it was he didn’t stay on the field enough.
-
Bringing back Lawler, Winston rose and wj was the previous big splash I think.
-
Ugly. I get that we tried quantity over quality. Raise the floor of the team if you can’t get the top of the free agent market. But we scrapped soo low in the barrel. Imagine where we’d be if we managed to add one impact cfl fa each of the last 3 off seasons.

Simon was one of the first cut a with kc, and was sitting. we didn’t tender an offer and he was considering retirement. After the multiple cuts from nfl teams in the 90s and thinking he was one of the best options for kc he was stunned and depressed. Gordon debuted here August 10th after finishing a season in the afl. Some wild facts about Simon, he worked out with an early Kurt Warner in St. Louis. Warner wanted Simon bad, but the rams passed which lead to him in the cfl later. He was actually going to go to Hamilton, not bc in 01, on his birthday. September 11th. The attacks happened and the tiger cats changed their mind. Two weeks later bc signed him. He was in the nfl for a couple weeks only. Mini camp week of July 23. 30th vets reported. Simon was available before Gordon.
-
Yeah I could see that. Might only be Bryant who is a gtd though. Since schoen hasn’t been close to 100% as of yet and is injured and now not practiced or played since last game, I expect him to sit. It would be nuts to force a guy back in whose banged up and was so far off before that. I’ll bet we don’t use an extra imp starter. They won’t sub out Kramdi, Thomas/lawson, Brady, Demski, clercius, kola, or Neuf. And they won’t use the fake ni rules. So we will start atleast 8 Canadians.
-
That’s not accurate though. Geroy Simon left after the 2000 season, Arland Bruce signed here as a rookie in may of 2001. We waited on Gordon, who went from nfl camp with the lions to the AFL, rather than bringing back Simon. Bruce was not in the picture when this decision was made. Even by the time Gordon was healthy, Bruce was on a rookie deal in an era with no cap. We could have most easily had milt, Simon, and Bruce.
-
Honestly, I expect straight across swaps for the injured guys and us to just start an extra Canadian on our campaign to ratio kings of the cfl so we can get our extra pick. The extra imp on the dl with a lot less Jake, mainly Lawson and no other ni dl reps would be great. No chance it happens.
-
Same. Getting the sinking feeling that we have repeated the Geroy Simon - Robert Gordon decision. I get why we made the decision. And pre cap going up I agree 300k wr is too much. Especially when you have Demski making 225-250k. Hindsight is 20/20, but we would’ve been a whole lot better off cutting bait on Demski and schoen, keeping lawler and bringing in any vet wr other than the 3 we brought in. Very unfortunate outcome to our off season approach.
-
Bryant and schoen both ruled doubtful for the game and haven’t practiced. Have to imagine both will sit this game. If vanterpool kicks out to T and Wallace goes back in to G, I wonder if we flip any ni to imp. Probably not, but dare to dream.

Walls was such an exceptional de, and guy. He might be the most under rated defensive player in bomber history. He could coach dl, or SnC. One of the most incredible all around athletes we’ve seen. I know some guys who worked with him on a rig and what he was physically capable of was un real. He’s on the top 4 bomber dl all time for me. He would make us better, by way of rotating the other old heads and being a better pass rusher than either of our guys. But he is the last dl guy we should look at. We do a great job of finding dt talent, but man we have not done the job at de. I hate that we didn’t bring in any during the bye week. That’s a great chance to bring some air lifts in and evaluate.

Horrible decision.
