Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
wbbfan replied to WinnipegGordo's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Great point. Soo true. And yeah lots of kids that need a chance. Man it’d be great if we took a page out of the xfl book and signed a bunch of guys as a league brought them up had a rookie camp / combine then a junior draft with those guys. It can be soo hard to cover all that ground for regional scouts especially with the football ops cap. That could be the huge shot of talent at qb that the cfl really needs. -

Its even worse in the deep south. It is soo easy for kids to fall between the cracks no matter how talented. Thats pretty cool, its interesting to see how many cfl guys are working in Europe the last decade. Mike sellers was iirc 18 or 19 when he came up to the CFL with edmonton the first time. His career likely never would've happened the way things work now. -

How many starts/games played though? How many of those guys would've been in an NFL camp with out the XFL? Just like say MBT bounced team to team TC to TC year after year. They'll take it, but if any thing it is just at the cost of guys from the previous years camp cuts. Also remember the NFL PR has expanded a lot this year. If it wasn't for the XFL those spots would still be filled. And with out the XFL generating significant starters etc, it's just front running the other sources players would be signing from. If I was one of those leagues, I'd cut in on college teams. Take kids from HS with out college experience. You'd need to develop some, but you would certainly get out in front of some higher talent with out school grades and providing a pay cheque. And you'd catch some significant talent from better CC teams, and guys who just cant do post-secondary education. -

The amount of people who engage in dumb money is crazy. People forget that Amazon wasn't profitable for nearly 20 years. The NFL over all doesn't need a feeder league. That said, some positions like OL have really struggled with modern athletes. Too many of those guys go to the DL instead. Thats part of the failing in the XFLs claims of how many guys went to NFL camps. Thee NFL only cares about finding stars. They don't care if you produce TCF. They aren't going to be missing guys, or have significantly worse guys in the last 10 TC spots either way. The football talent pool at many positions is so deep that many players need multiple recycling leagues. Dbs, rbs, wrs, Lbers, k/p, DE, all have tremendous talent fall between the cracks every year. The players need the chance. The NFL doesn't soo much need them to be pushed back up. Qbs, and OL especially are always in great need in every league. But the talent pools are thinnest in those spots and that has massive negative effect on leagues watchability. If any one needs more waste catch leagues, it is the CFL. In the long term it is always us that benefits from these start ups. Most of the guys who succeed in these leagues wont go up and stick in the NFL. They will end up here, for the money eventually if they are good enough. -

It’s not about the value of the Xfl. The xfl had zero value and they paid 15mil for it. The impending break up before it was bough was for going to be for Pennies compared to that. They already are and have. That’s actually in their design with how they sign all the players and own all the teams. I do agree that the buck stops some where, but we don’t know where that is and I fully believe they will still be fully willing to spend this year. It’s kind of sad to me. I think a couple of the markets are strong and deserve more sport teams. Maybe the nfl will go back to stlouis. I mean they averaged 35k fans in the stands in a league that saw a lot of argos level paid attendance at best. -

Garcia is worth 40m the rock is worth 800m and firebird is worth 7 billion. That’s the ownership group. -

I think the easiest way for them would be to have a nation league / American League division split. Xfl division and usfl. Then you have an inter league week and a shared championship after each divisional championship. I would’ve done the same if we did do a cfl merger, keep the differences and split them to play two weeks together. In the end I suspect the usfl can’t afford to keep running as is. And the Xfl has tons of cash, so if they merge the xfl might buy some or all of the teams. Though people who work in money management seldom have a high tolerance for losing their own money with no recourse. -

I don’t disagree. Darby played him self off the team not just out of the starting line up. Maybe he’s hurt or has some thing else going on. Parker earned a look too though last year. I think Kramdi suffers more playing Sam than he would half. Might even be better off at S. he has a great knack at getting into a position to make a play. He struggles with making the play consistently. At Sam even half you need more the consistent play than the flashy big play. That’s kind of what Houston and ba have fallen in to. Selling out for picks and hits respectively. Id much rather our ni db be ford, but if we want to grow with Kramdi as long as he keeps making progress it does make sense. Of course I’d rather go with an extra imp dt then start 8 nis. -

Any thing is possible really. Out side of bc tor and wpg the difference between teams is negligible. I mean some media types are claiming edm as the hottest team in the league. Mtl ham ssk cal edm are all separated by just 2 wins and ott is just one back of them. If ott wins out and ham/mtl lose out ott would host a play off game. Ssk has given up the most points and scored the least. Yet is 3rd in the west and has beat the two teams infront on back to back weeks. Ott has a better points for/ against than ssk, cal, edm, and Hamilton. In the 2nd tier glut only mtl has a better f/a. -

Only if people actually buy the other crap. Remember the ugly jersey urban camo blue we had that one year? No one was running out buying any of those jerseys. -

It is and as long as a rook imp qb is making way way more it’s not a big factor. The skill positions in general. -

I really want Demski to hit 1k at home so the crowd can go crazy for him. Brady for 1500 rushing/bomber ni record/ 2k yards from the line, woli could also break his career best mark of 650 this year. -

Canadas team… to hate. I also hate that 3rd/alternate unis are worn as often as the regular ones. Once on the road once at home max. Why can’t we just have simple nice unis with a league theme, team colours and some team flavour. -

I wonder what they would do with Houston, where both leagues have a team. Hub cities crippled attendance and engagement for a bunch of usfl teams. While the xfl was carried by St. Louis. I wonder how they would do rosters too iirc the usfl teams sign their own players where as the xfl signs then disperses them in a draft I feel like they’d have a chance with a few off the market. Too many in Texas for the xfl. If they fielded two Texas teams (Houston and San Antonio) with st louis, Washington, Birmingham, Memphis, Michigan, nj, no, and 1 of Philly, Pitt, vegas, and Seattle they’d have a good spread of 10 teams. Until they fix their pay scale especially for QBs I don’t see them having any larger of an impact on the cfl. -
Plus, 2 Imp lbers 1 global 2 ni, backing up 2 starters. We refuse to use those guys more creatively, and our kick cover is the worst it’s been under mos tenure. Our Roster management is crap.
-
Imagine the interior ol if they had to deal with Dobson and Lawson both inside? Put one on a centre and one on a guard have em both bull rush then just try and block one of the Jeff’s 1 on 1 on the edge lol. Or twist Dobson over Lawson. That guy with a head full of steam on the centre with a full head of steam would be hilarious. Could double twist and have Jefferson come between the two dts. That would even allow another imp on for walker.

Idk why we have fox and garbutt on the pr especially for this long. If you are gonna dress Schmekel when you do finally roster an extra dt it’s just a waste of space and time. I mean how much thinner at dl do we have to get? Idk how discussion can be more annoying than watching our front 6 get owned and watching our defence crumble in the 4th. 2021 wasn’t long ago. When we didn’t have stove for the first part we struggled with getting gashed by big runs early. It was the main weak link. Stove came in vs bc and manhandled their interior single handedly. in the cfl especially, you need high level dl depth. And you need a nose. Other wise you rely too much on dbs in the run fits, and get guys gassed out. The drives can be crazy long up here. The field is huge and every qb can move around. A cfl dl has to run waaay more than down south. Carrying 2 back up ol has been a big deal this year. Especially the beef that is Dobson and Eli. We go heavy set and other teams just can’t cope. I’d seriously put a 2 way number on one and have them rotate at dt if we can’t manage to fill all the roster needs. We have the ability to manage the roster better and fix most of the problems but we do need more guys at db as well. If we kept 3 imo des on, and then put one of those two in for 1/3 reps or even less and just had them maul ol it’d go a long long way. If I was trying to turn around or build a cfl team I’d look at cast off ol who are explosive and nasty to fill out at dt in general. A lot of guys come through who don’t have the foot work / fluidity/ mobility and the polish to be ol. But are big mean athletes who can push a guy. This is a great great point. how can we be soo far off with Hansen and when he will be healthy all the time. 100%

Also I’d add the tiger cats got away with straight mugging when it comes to holding. I don’t think a single call was made either way all game. When you’re getting mugged as a de, don’t have a rotation to stay fresh and have a rook on the other end going ham for pressure he might just think it’s better if he doesn’t get a good pressure angle on the first move to play the pass lane more and try to remain in a good contain position on his edge. A lot of what makes he and jj soo deadly as a combo is they take Layered rush lanes so who ever gets first pressure likely pushes the qb into another tackler. When things are working well any way. When they aren’t and we have an end out, guys worn out, and or lack pressure up the middle we see mobile qbs walking through those gaps for easy first downs. 19/21 those guys ran into stove, kongbo Nevis etc. the Jeff’s create a ton of pressure and lots of sacks but not always for them self self or each other.
-
Bailey was amazing on that jet sweep off tackle. I love when he runs that instead of wide out. Wj really suffers when we don’t have a nose or jj. Or a rotation. I don’t blame him as much. We need to atleast have a rotation to enable him to do his best.
-
No not yet. If they don’t deal with what they need to, internally, then it will require some thing big. If mos etc use this to wake tf up then it’ll be a good thing. But as of yet I have little hope that this will shake them out of their complacency. Personally, I’d fire hall promote jy and bring in either a qb coach to have a guy on the side line and in the booth, or some one to be a qc coach to ensure the game plan prep and execution on offence is on par. Agree. I saw too much of biggie not reading the play at all and just running into the plugged a gap/ol and getting washed out on out runs. Just taking him self right out of the play on runs other than up the gut. agree. And, a freakin nose tackle. We brought in soo many in camp and then just don’t use one.
-
It is lol it was added this year as an extra imp. And we’ve neglected to use it at all in many games using an ni instead.
-
Honestly we had soo many drives that did nothing and in the end we needed one more td. We had the ball with a minute in decent starting position and went two and out. Kicking and the decisions or kick or not didnt cost us our offence cost us.
-
Yes and their total snaps have a % limit. I didn’t say it’s an extra guy I said it’s an extra imp.
-
Nope. But we aren’t that team any more. Our culture no longer over comes all. It doesn’t even over come our coaches softness any more. I would revoke all the players time off this week and have them practice and in pads as much as the cba allows. And then running doing SC and film on this game and our other loses this year plus the gc as much as allowed.
