  1. https://3downnation.com/2024/08/29/opinion-b-c-lions-gaming-cfl-salary-cap-and-theres-nothing-wrong-with-that/ I’ve got a lot of love for ringmaiden, doman, jauch, and a handful of their coaches. But man I am tired of them trying to buy a winner. The league really needs to make adjustments to the cap in the next cba, and until then the bombers need to start spending competitively on free agents that aren’t ours.
  2. Even then you could sign a guy from with in the league. Or even a guy like rosery.
  3. You think a cis kid who didn’t get a single cfl camp shot as an udfa is going to give us depth at Sam? Every cis school had a kid playing sam, and most all of them haven’t gotten a cfl look. We could’ve brought back nico McCarthy who was a Canadian db here in camp. Or gone digging through other teams cuts. A Canadian db who wasn’t drafted and wasn’t brought into any ones camp doesn’t provide mid season depth in the cfl. That guy has a 0% chance of stepping in at Sam and succeeding. But we don’t have a need for ni db depth.
  4. I tell you what, we better go out and buy all the free agents in the off season. We keep missing out on adding established free agents for cap reasons while making the most money as a franchise. Clearly the cap is out the window, time to spend.
  5. Herb is a good writer, but about as bent as riderfans.com he’s blindly defended all the stupidest things the als have done. Nice move for them. Bc continues to try to buy a contender. Wonder if they will be the first team to get more than the monetary fine for cap violations.
  6. I know, but I’m talking about maintaining a spot. Big difference from breaking camp and staying on most of the year.
  7. If he doesn’t develop into an active roster player by next tc, even if he stays healthy, I think he will exhaust his nfl opportunities with lots left in the tank. Seems they like him out of camp in Detroit, only time will tell.
  8. He gets over the top, but doesn’t win the battle really any more. He can’t get off a block or make the tough tackle. His best use is deep spy. If he isn’t diminished further from this most recent injury.
  9. Agree with that. Zach is near the end, but he’s still dangerous. The lights could click on suddenly and he could waltz down the field for a td on every drive at any time. The flickers become less frequent every game, but he could have the best game of his career left in him. Biggie, I don’t know if he has a single big drive left in his gas tank. Maybe a play here or there. Likely a dropping back in zone type of play. I don’t think he has a single play of standing up a blocker, shedding switching gaps and making a crushing 1on1 tackle in the hole. Zach has some struggles with health, I don’t think we will know full details till he retires but I think he has lingering hand issues and of course the concussions. Biggie seems to have fleeting moments when he looks like a healthy pro football player. Nature of his position, and our piss poor use of him for soo long. How many times did he get sent into an interior linemen to remove a blocker here? 500? A thousand? Too damn many that’s for sure.
  10. That sounds about right. In my nostalgia prone memory the big shift came when teams stopped trying to go big heavy sets to counter the Don Mathew’s als cover 0, and started running 5-6 wide sets with fast screens and such. Suddenly every one started doing that to the als, and then to each other. And just like that the fb/te pro form offence evaporated. We kind of started the ball rolling by running and throwing to both backs (sellers n blink) a lot. And I want to say the riders started going empty back field vs the als to mixed success. Then the als adapted it most effectively for a good while. Course plenty of times in the past heavy west coast influences were popular in the cfl. And I haven’t really checked so it might be a bit off here n there or even more off than I would think. But that era really changed a lot in the cfl. The offence, then how teams defended, and it aligned with a surge in ni talent at wr too.
  11. For sure worse imo, but not current era. Ol were regularly under 300 lbs, teams used a lot of pro form two back type sets, sams were still lbers etc. game has changed a lot since then.
  12. But I mean feltmate is actually good on teams and useful as a blocker. If this is the best we can do for a replacement like that it’s pretty sad. I mean even for a guy off the streets it’s lacklustre. Zero cfl camps practices etc. could even go wheatfall for Jonson and woli on instead of schmeck. Woli starts and clercius is off the bench. Then for our heavy set clercius and woli both go on.
  13. Youre right, one game difference not point. Hes not THAT bad. Tyqwan glass?
  14. I don’t think betts gets another look, but I didn’t think he’d get the look in the first place.
  15. Qft. I assume he gets some thing in the 200-220k range. Not my favorite guy, but fits a huge need and could allow us to carry the extra imp ol easier. He’s 26 too, I assume he still gets to try the nfl window. Pretty unusual.
  16. https://3downnation.com/2024/03/21/2024-cfl-draft-profiles-western-db-lourenz-bowers-kane/ Meh testing numbers. I don’t really get this move. We’ve got both halletts, Kelly, plus karamoko all for depth. Even weitz is comparable size/athleticism roster filler. If we liked this kid a lot why not have had him in camp?
  17. I don’t tune in for the post game show thanks for the fill in One point out of 4th, it’s a kooky year even by cfl standards. not in the modern era. Agree. At his best he runs to throw. Makes sense. Wallace and neuf won’t be it.
  18. That makes a lot of sense, I hadn’t heard that. I hope they do a good check on him before game time, and I’m sure they will our trainers are ace.
  19. The mobility issue isn’t physical now imo. Early in the year I think it was a game shape issue. The last two weeks we’ve seen him do a much better job with his feet. The problem is he often tucks the ball as soon as he sees pressure and takes his eyes off the down field targets. He stares into the blitz then tries to get the ball out of his arm and back to his hand then throws half blind. The moment he tucks the ball any one in the tackle box rushes him. The moment he takes his eyes off the targets he loses coverage adjustments. When zach was at his best here he wasn’t crazy fast escaping, he was really poised. Eyes down field, ball ready to throw, stepping confidently not panicking. He always seemed fast enough to beat any rush, because the threat of throwing and running keeps the D honest. Because his goal was to take whatever was open. Not force a shot to over compensate.
  20. As much as moving the pocket, I’d have slot backs chipping ends, and go with an extra blocker. Either chip LT or put a fb/6th ol with him. We could use a chip and a half roll. If zach is on a 5 step, instead of dropping straight back slide step to the side, or do a fast 3 step sprint out and reset. Balancing all those different augmentations to our pass pro will be critical to keeping the riders off balance and zach in time to pass. Even if Stan is healthy I’d put in a lot of that.
  21. Mos just said he expects big Stan to play now, and thinks Wallace might be back this year. It makes sense that they would give Stan time to rest. Recovering from that type of dehydration especially for a big guy, is no joke. I do worry they might send him to go when he isn’t ready. It does beg questioning how he became critically dehydrated on the first drive. Guy keeps him self in immaculate shape and is a real pro. Maybe it was a mistake or accident. But I hope it’s not a sign of deeper issues. He did have streaks of about a month twice were he was not only brutal, but consistently throwing pick 6s. Zach is a great great guy and team player though, Rodger’s is a turd. It’s hard to say when it’s time to move on from a guy like zach. But I think 90% of that call is dependant on having the next guy. Brown + strevy is the best case scenario to move on. You never get a better jumping off point.
  22. Yep, it’s gonna be an ugly ol group. We better be ready with a better game plan to provide protection for zach.
  23. Our roster construction made all our problems worse. We moved on from grant and Bailey with out existing in house replacements. We moved on from hardrick and brought in an army of guards. Zach hasn’t been good in any play off games here. Adequate a few times but never close to a mop level performer. Zach is 36, there is no world where you can expect the best performance in the clutch at that point. He also struggled hard multiple times for extended stretches last year. About two solid month long slides of playing really bad. Now he’s had one good game since week 18 of last year.
  24. Looks like Gabe Wallace on crutches. No big Stan. Randolph at lt, eli at G. Woli back at it. No neuf or biggie.
