Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
wbbfan replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Qb stats aren’t tools for evaluation. That’s why qbr is the oldest advanced metric in football. I mean what % of his reps on the season came after we clinched the west final? Do you know how many picks he’d have to throw to increase his pick rate by 25%? zach wasnt in the mop race most of the season. You think having the two best wrs and best rb in the league didn’t impact his stats? How do you reconcile the fact that what’s happening has been called for a while and continues while our performances get worse? Last two full games came before clinching the west final. -

Qft. I’d love to have ford as qb3 running strevys package taking the beating and allowing strevy to be a qb even dual threat. Not a freaking wildcat -

Stats don’t tell the whole story. Keep in mind zach has been playing at a very similar level since we clinched the west last year. The problems have been amplified, and I for sure didn’t see the wheels falling off this bad. And he was rusty for the first two games or so. last year was the most bipolar season of Zachs career, or any I’ve seen in a long time. He was either throwing tds on every drive and destroying teams or tossing pick 6s and going 2n out. The fact is, going all in on a qb in his 35th and 36th year seldom works out. The bottom always falls out on old QBs at some point. Betting against Collaros in the off season was smart money. Output Stats don’t summarize performance at qb. Remember when mbt had more yards than zach in a mop year? Is blm the mop right now? -

Really all depends on what you need and are willing to give in terms of cash and reps. You can find a pass rusher or a tackle box lber corner or rb. The guy who plays the best out of the box isn’t likely to be the best upside guy. More like a habba than the next Jeffcoat. You’re right especially about wrs. Most of the guys available aren’t pros yet and haven’t adjust both to the pros and the cfl. Most guys take a year like lawler. NFL pro wrs seldom work out up here in the past few years. You can find guys who are good and capable and ready to produce, but ones who also fit your system and need and can develop as fast relationship with your qb is rare. with the madden analogy even if a guy is a 90, it might take him 6-8 games to play like a 90 if he picks it all up fast. Till then he’s a 50 who will put up some big plays. Nailed it -

It isn’t even close to the worst ol in the league and hasn’t been for about a month. Kola is a problem. Neuf is passed it and lofton might only be a stop gap, but over all the pressure has largely come from blitzes. Zach can’t seem to read the blitz and get it out fast or read when the D shows blitz and drops, or when they rotate coverage. Zach also has the best blocking rb and wrs in the league. If you put him on any team in the league he’d struggle. When he gets pressure he’s tucking the ball, indecisive between running and throwing, takes his eyes off the wrs and locks in on the pass rush, pumps and hesitates. The ball isn’t coming out of his hand clean, I don’t think his throwing hand is 100%. But the biggest problem he faces is between his ears. -

I wouldn’t game Ryan dinwiddie over zach right now. Or Robert Marve. Unless he’s got full on bionic knees now. -

Idk. I feel like this year is mos’ leash. If he doesn’t turn things around and continues to be an issue I think it becomes a noose. Allowing Walter’s to wrestle back primary control of the team. -

If Fajardo is going to be out for 6ish I could see them biting. Especially if they have a bad deal for us to eat. Maybe ott though they shouldn’t. Edm, is a wild card. They could easily begin to play for assets rather than wins this year. But I’m sure they’d require a lot to eat that deal. We have to keep in mind that strevy signed a deal with significant play time incentives. If he hits those and we eat Zachs deal we could be in more cap trouble. It’s critical that we start making moves to save money and cut old dead weight before too long. We need those cap bucks pronto. -

https://3downnation.com/2024/07/21/opinion-shea-patterson-out-duelling-zach-collaros-should-give-rider-nation-faith-in-quarterback-future/ more mindless vomit from 3dn. Virtually every starting qb each week has out dueled zach. -

You mean like when he took over for zach mid game with zach game plan and played a better half of football than zach has in 10 months? Or with the jets in the preseason? Or his entire college career? Or the first year here? We’ve pin holed him into this Michael Vick package because it’s got a high floor. Nothing to do with what he’s done or capable of. if you haven’t seen it, you don’t know what to look for and wouldn’t know short of the second coming of Montana. Strevy should be running a passing offence with some rpo plays worked in and a sprinkling of qb runs. Those runs should be built around big plays not squeezing out 5 physical yards. -
Call it what you want … you need to move on from Collaros

I mentioned it in turn gdt, we can’t wait till the off season to dump all these old clunkers. If we do we won’t be able to compete next year. We’ve got less than a month imo to move on and start plugging in new guys. Other wise we will be making the moves too late and not getting guys into competitive games. -

Sticking with 35 year old qbs over the long guys you’ve groomed seldom works out. Except for when it does lol. in general it’s a refusal roster wide to move on from old guys with nothing left. Imo, he’d be doing a lot better here. Especially if we also moved on from guys like kola. -
It’s fine if he toes the line to the media and fans. As long as his actions aren’t as mindless. The smug, excuse laden crap after a loss isn’t ok. Some thing like, “the offence didn’t and hasn’t been performing as we expected. To a man I think they’d all agree with that. We will have to go back and review the film, and see why we came up short. We can’t keep playing and under performing like this. If performances don’t improve quickly, we will have to make changes. No one is beyond being accountable no matter what they done here, in the league, nfl or what have you.”

Dirty with out question. But I really don’t think the league will suspend like they should. Might not even be a max fine. Bobandy is a terrible commissioner. we need full time, decently paid refs, then we need to hold them accountable. The short yardage sneak spot was soo bad too. CFL refs being cfl refs.
-
Really poorly called game. thing is, the team that is consistently physical generally gets the calls. The other team is often left playing soft and retaliating. We have been playing soo soft, waiting for the call to bail us out rather than making plays. That’s why the worse teams in the league always feel victimized by the refs and why good teams tend to see far less calls. Aggressive, physical football is good football. Any thing less, isn’t. Need sysco to air lift in a huge supply of apples to supply all the rabble that has to be cut.
