Pre-Season Game #2: Bombers @ Ticats - Kickoff @ 6:00 Ct

So guys and gals, lots of subplots to talk about here.  Burke brings the bare minimum of a roster to Guelph, including a majority of rookies, each of whom will not be able to complain that they didn't get enough playing time.  The proof will be in how they play.

The first ever CFL game being played in Guelph at Alumni Field in front of a huge crowd of 13,000 spectators.  I am guessing there won't be too many traffic problems....

Quote from Burke:

To make sure we get to the regular season opener June 27th against Montreal as healthy as we can be.  That's one thing I learned from Mark Trestman.   Last year we went into the season opener without our two starting offensive tackles, with our number-three running back and with injuries in the secondary.  I want our best players on the field against the Alouettes.  Besides, we've got quite a few guys playing in this game who are fighting for roster spots, a couple for starting positions, and we are going to get to see what they can do against Hamilton's number ones.  It will tell us who belongs and who doesn't.....
....We could get blasted in this game and I hope our fans don't put too much stock into the final score.  Our intent is to evaluate the newcomers and make sure the vets are healthy when there are points at stake in the standings.

  • Honestly, this is a lot better game than last week so far. Making some completions on offense, and the D is decent in coverage and getting push up front....

  • do or die

It's not all bad:   Burke lived up to his promises, before this game, completely nailed the ugly part...... We have an exact and well scouted idea............ on what not to do... We have establis

  • Isn't Brett Carter the local kid with no chance of making the team..........and he gets the hardest working player of the game for the Bombers.......that doesn't reflect well on what the scouts brough

True, Goltz isnt at the same experience level yet. Clement looked very fast but him and Hall were pretty unremarkable - again see no diff. with Elliot or Brink.

from the sounds of it clement was what was expected, moves well but accuracy on the throws is inconsistent. Hall was the only real disppointment for me because he was showing better in camp and in the first preseason game. He's supposed to be a bit more polished and more accurate. Maybe it was just the circumstances of the game (blow out, rotating every other series) we likely won't find out for a while though as I think that it's pretty much written in stone now that Goltz is #2.

Rotating every series is a head scratcher. Give each guy a quarter & like Hall said, establish a rhythm.

and if they had done that then everyone would be saying that it wasn't fair that Hall saw Hamilton's second team defence while Clement got to go against 3rd string. I have no doubt that whatever Burke did, someone would have complained.

Burke said it wasn't fair to compare a QB that played against a Q4 defence to a Q3 defense.

instead he just made it unfair to both of them. As far as I'm concerned the only relevant parts of last nights game were the first half because the qbs in the second half were put in a poor position.

No more time for excuses.... the excuses have ran out.

Time for this team to put up or time to make big time changes.   I sure hope the pre season was an aberration and that the team will  be competitive this season.

cause blowing it all up has worked oh so well for the last 20 years.
