  1. It's all performance based, comedygeek. They'll start 20 year old Brent Carter if they feel he can help them win. If they think Etienne better helps them win then they'll start him. I remember a fresh faced 21 year old rookie named Joe Poplawski right out of the University of Alberta in 1978 make the team as a starting wide receiver, I believe. That year he was Rookie Of The Year. In 1979, Joe Pop moved inside & supplanted veteran Gord Patterson as a slot.

  2. The players better get the share of the pie in the new CBA. Glen Suitor was on Calgary radio last week saying he hopes the players don't get more money first but that the CFL expands the rosters. I don't like that idea. For years, the players have been getting the short end of the stick financially. Pay the players & then worry about extra roster positions. And get rid of arbitration when players are suspened.

  3. My beef with Heff is the coaches made a decision & he should as a professional do as they want. If it doesn't work out, it's on them. All I know is Keon Raymond from the Stamps isn't a big player & he excels there. The Sam has turned into another db position anyway... Yeah, it's more physical to be sure playing there. But they thought he could handle it.

  4. You'll never win this SPuDs....;) People have opinions. I never felt he sucked as a football player. I just felt that if he can't play ST's then he should be on the PR & not dressing for games. Everybody who dresses other than the backup qbs need to contribute to a victory in some way. That was my big complaint. They should have let him develop on the PR....

  5. Looks like Access_Blue is back on the other site as let's_ball.. At least it seems that way. Talking about "rumours" he's heard. And putting players on the PR considering that they don't exist in the pre season. Just a warning mod team... in case he tries to join here.

  6. This is HUGE for the league, but I'll echo the sentiment they need to elevate their officiating ASAP.  The CFL's referees are in my opinion the worst of any league (I don't watch baseball but I've heard those are bad too) and it really looks bad when everyone at home is scratching their heads at some terrible calls.

No, the reffing isn't the problem. It's Rod Black. What's going to kill viewership & make the CFL the butt of jokes down south is that turd of a broadcaster. He's painful  to listen to. An absolute embarassment that TSN uses him as their lead play by play man when 99.99999999% of fans hate him. The other thing about Black is no matter who he works with, he brings them down to his level. He doesn't elevate a game & make  it look better, he drags it down.

  7. I'll be happy if Etienne can just play ST's, contribute like everybody else & not be a liability out on the field. Just doing that would be a huge improvement over the past 2 seasons. And as far as shoving it in my face about Etienne? Well, I've been on these boards for years, it's not like it would be the first time. Seeing the kid improve would make me feel happy for him. Mike, the only thing I'll say is that respect is earned & it is never given. Third year pro should play ST's. The receiver part will come if he continues to  work hard.

  8. Why do people do what they do? Back in 2000 & 2001 the Stampeders official website had a Stamps & CFL discussion forum. It was pretty popular with CFL fans at the time & was very busy. I met a few posters on that site that are still active today & still posting. Bluto, do you remember it? I know ArgoDave was a regular back then. There was a BC Lions fan named Sandy who posted regularily. All he would do is come on, insult & fight with everyone. He hated all other CFL teams & their fans. He was a total jerk the entire time.

One  day he brought down both forums on the Stamps website when he threatened to kill people. He actually threatened their lives & their families. And he gave out his seat location at BC Place saying he'd fight anyone who challenged him. Just told people to bring it to where he was & he'd fight them.

It wasn't so much that he could trace where people live as he probably couldn't. Just the tone of his messages & the vulgar language. He was serious & once the Stamps saw the posts (as he threatened a bunch of people) they closed down the CFL & Stamps discussion sites right away for good. He was also banned from a number of other sites as he was the same way over on those as well.

Just what were his motives??? Who knows?

  9. Jalil Carter covered for Watkins in the final 2 playoff games and did well. Watkins' "personal issues" hopefully are resolved soon, he's a big-play guy.

but yeah... i hate replacing an entire secondary 2 seasons in a row. hopefully Jones can pull another rabbit out of his hat.

For a lot of reasons, I hope Jones gets his comeuppance. At some point... His defense get their collective asses handed to them over a season. Lost all respect for him the way he bailed on the Stamps & the way he went about it. Karma's a *****.

  10. It's not about living away from home for most... It's about winning & the fact the Rifles are one of the worst run teams in junior football. The coaching under Normandeau & Graceffo played favourites. When Normandeau was fired & Graceffo came in, nothing changed other than the head coach was different but the assistants stayed virtually the same. The assistant coaches rewarded "their boys" with playing time & others who should have been playing sat on the bench. Word gets around it's not the team to play for so guys bail & go elsewhere. Now, if Karhut can turn that around & be fair there's talent to win. Winnipeg never lacked the talent, it was the other things going on. It's a brand new coaching staff so that's a great first move. I hope the guy succeeds.

  11. That being said I'm not convinced this was a well thought out move and the potential repercussions, in the lockeroom were considered. This sort of move can motivate, can generate fear or can cause desension. You calculate the upside.

The Bombers cut out a cancer in the dressing room. What's not to like about this? They'll find another DB to take his place. If there's one thing that abounds it's American  defensive backs.

  12. because Buck doesn't go on Twitter and make comments about Mack?  Because Buck plays the way Crowton asks him too and accepts the responsibilities given him without complaining?  Because Buck is a leader?  Because Buck didn't get busted with pot in the off-season and didn't tell the team?

Fans can say what they want about Buck's health. But as far as being a leader, he has all the respect in the dressing room. I doubt Hefney had any of that for the reasons KBF stated. While Buck is a warrior for the Bombers, Hefney put himself first on more than one occasion.

  13. Infrastructure in this country sucks. A professional league now barnstorming in 5,000 seat venues? There just aren't enough pro size stadiums in this country. What would the Bombers have done had Canad Inns ever be condemned???  Where would the Bombers have played? I wonder if building inspectors in  Winnipeg, Regina & Hamilton ever looked the other way when they inspected those facilities?? I've been to Mosaic Stadium for LD weekend in the 70's, 80's & 90's & it was already a dump back then. Twenty years later it can't be any better. Even with the temporary renos last season.

  14. The BC League is substantially better in overall talent than the PFC.  The PFC have the Hilltops and sometimes another team, recently the Colts.  I don't really take the Hilltops as an indicator of the overall strength of the league.

Worth noting too that many Manitobans who end up playing CIS take a trip out to play at least a couple of years of junior in BC.  It will be interesting to see if Karhut can repair the reputation of the Rifles and keep more of the top players in Manitoba.

If Karhut isn't into politics like his predecessors Normandeau & Graceffo playing favourites then maybe they'll win some games. There was lots of mistrust in that dressing room. There was talent too but not necessarily used the right way.
