  1. After the first session here are my thoughts:

-Willy has looked sharp (other than one bad sequence where he underthrew wide open TDs back to back.

-Hall and Marve should be 2-3 respectively. Brohm's struggles aren't getting any better. He's very innacurate.

-I know, I know, it's early but I predict Paris Cotton will be our staring tailback by labour day at the latest. This guy really stands out.

-Aaron Woods could be a great weapon on offense this year. He's getting open.

-Don Unamba is everywhere. Looks like a younger, faster Klint Kent with his hair covering up the #41.

-Korey Banks was among the DBs sitting out.

-I liked what I saw from Nzegwu on the d-line. He broke through and put some major pressure on the QB a few times.

-Suber has looked like an experienced veteran out there today. Great coverage, positioning, forced a fumble.

I'm sticking around for the second session so I'll give some more input later.

Thanks for the updates.  Being stuck in the office, I always appreciate guys who take the time to post from camp.

I'm guessing this is a prelude to Walby hosting the CFL on TSN.

Are you suggesting hosting or panel member?

I'd like to see him as a panel member. I always enjoyed his approach when he was with CBC, especially is disjointed fingers holding the mic for everyone to see, priceless.

I like how he'd bring his support for the 'hogs' to the discussion. Always enjoyable banter. Plus, being a Bomber Blue and true could help minimize some of that argo feel you sometimes get from TSN.

He'd be infinitely more enjoyable to listen to than Schultz.

Schultz wrote an article on TSN the other day ... I was laughing my ass off at some of the stuff he wrote. Typical epic Schultz stuff.

    Was it written in crayon?

  3. CJOB looks so damn cheap when its road games.  Like how much does it cost to send a guy on the road for a couple of days with irving?  I never even know who the colour guy is to be honest.  Dont they use...name escapes me, whenever they are in Hamilton, someone else for home games and then who?

Usually it's Neil Lumsden when they are in Hamilton (IIRC).

  5. same old same old, o'shea is a breath of fresh air is all i will say

Oh and the callers need to be screened, pretty sure every 30000 year old man calls in.

First caller of the night was particularly terrible .. it was a reminder of why I don't listen to the show .. that said .. I stuck it out because I wanted to hear what our new coach had to say early into his first preseason ..

  6. Does the Cibo in Winnipeg have the $5 pizza happy hour they have in Calgary?  It's pretty much my favourite.

Places I like to hit up when I go to Winnipeg -

    For a "different" taste:

    - Bistro 7 1/4

    - Deer + Almond

    For lunch:

    - 529 Wellington (very reasonably priced lunch menu for the quality)

    - Sun Fortune for Chinese

    - Line up

    - Carbone's ($13 for drink, salad + pizza?  yes plz)

    For date nights:

    - The Current

    - Steppin' Out

    Sports/Bars:

    - I still like Original Joe's if I want to watch sports.  You can see the game but still have a conversation.  Good quality and well priced food.  Compared to the ones in Calgary, miles above.

    - King's Head if it's not a busy night

Market Burger is possibly the combination of worst service + food value ever.  They seem terrible at stocking food so are "out" of their features all the damn time.  I have a friend who is obsessed with this place and I just cannot stand it. I used to think Unburger was bad until I went there; now Unburger is quite a welcome change.

Recently told Steppin Out is now permenantly closed.

  7. All I would ask is that people try to keep the discussion somewhat on point.  I realize this thread discusses the politics and players involved in negotiating the transit situation with IGF .. but if people want to discuss issues / policy / politics beyond the scope of that framework .. perhaps it should go into General discussion .. I'd rather not have to start pruning posts.

    Thanks all.

  8. Second day ... here's what is floating out there already

    -- Briggs is back practicing

-- Goodrich, Watson and Brescacin all not practicing, Goodrich is on crutches.

    -- Bob Wylie is back

    I love Watson .. it's just a damn shame he's not reliable .. guy can't stay healthy .. hopefully it's nothing serious ..

  9. Terry Hawthorne (2013 - 5th Round Pick - Steelers)

    OVERVIEW

Illinois’ talented defense has received well-deserved praise over the past couple of seasons, with defensive end Whitney Mercilus landing in the first round of the 2012 draft (after leading the nation in sacks) and multiple 2013 draft prospects littering the team’s front seven. But the surprising selection of safety Tavon Wilson in the second round by the Patriots and the obvious talents of Hawthorne hinted that more Illini could be next. Despite a very talented group, Hawthorne and the rest of the defense played well below average and finished the season on a nine game losing streak.

Hawthorne was on nearly everyone’s All-American list as a high school after earning Illinois all-state and St. Louis all-metro honors at East St. Louis (28 touchdowns on offense, four more on interception returns at cornerback). He played every game as a true freshman, starting the final five and scoring a 44-yard touchdown against Minnesota on his sole interception of the year. Before his sophomore year, however, Hawthorne fractured his right foot in practice. He missed the first four games of the season, playing in eight of the last nine and starting the Texas Bowl win over Baylor (led team with nine tackles). He managed to stay healthy in 2011, breaking out in a honorable-mention All-Big Ten campaign and tying for the conference lead with 11 passes defended (three interceptions, eight pass break-ups). He was the team’s Defensive Player of the Game in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl 20-14 win over UCLA after taking an interception back 39 yards for a touchdown. The injury bug caught Hawthorne again while playing Wisconsin and was taken to the hospital by an ambulance after a head injury that was later determined to be a concussion. He finished with 43 total tackles, four going for loss including one sack. He added six pass breakups and one interception while only missing one start.

    ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS Able to match up against opponents’ top receivers and support the run because of his physicality. Possesses the height, vertical, and tenacity to be factor as a press corner and on jump balls down the sideline. Quick to react on short routes, has the short-area footwork to break on poor throws to make the interception. Uses strong upper body to wrap up larger wideouts immediately after the catch and to throw down big backs in the open field. Brings some pop to the party, creates turnovers with his impact and willingness to rip at the ball during the tackle. Also a solid cut tackler, throws his shoulder into the thigh of ballcarriers to stop their momentum. Reliable on containment responsibilities outside against the run and on misdirection, will rip off blocks with strong hands. Willing to meet backs head-on in the hole and gives chase to plays down the line when no receiver is on his side of the field.

WEAKNESSES Flashes some ability to backpedal quickly, but is often asked to open his hips off the line and is inconsistent transitioning forward to stay with out routes. Lunges at ballcarriers and ducks his head coming in for tackles at times. Takes risks and lacks great ball security when fielding punts, runs with strength but lacks great elusiveness. Body-catches interceptions, will need to prove he can extend away from his frame to complete more difficult plays.

BOTTOM LINE Hawthorne is a physical defender with the size to start outside against larger NFL receivers, hands and read-and-react ability to make plays in coverage, and aggressive nature to hold up his end of the bargain in run support. Illinois had plenty of draftable defensive talent in 2012, but the unit as a whole was putrid. Hawthorne's extreme injury in the middle of October may have played a part in it, but the senior was not the same player in 2012 as he was in 2011.

I actually believe that... or whatever minion was manning the twitter feed got in some fast trouble.

    Wpg Blue Bombers @Wpg_BlueBombers  ·  18s

@Brent_Neill It was an accidental RT, the Tweet was brought to our attention and we were reviewing. Not an official comment by any means.

I would buy it, except the person who runs the Twitter account has been in trouble before for similar stuff.

They also went on to retweet someone who agrees with the 'comment retweeted in error' only a short time later .. ah the politics of social media ..

  12. Funny that the Bombers official twitter account just retweeted that comment...

    Wpg Blue Bombers @Wpg_BlueBombers 24s

RT @garrettbillan1: @Wpg_BlueBombers Sammy still crying about his buddy Rabb being rejected by the BOD I see.

Not saying that there wasn't some pettiness on the part of the city when coming to their decision .. but you'd hope the Bomber organization would try to put a better face on the situation ..

  13. I'd hope we can do better than Greg Peach. At least Kenny Mainor is gone, although I'm surprised noone else signed him if for no other reason than he can get after the QB.

For every impact play Mainor made .. he took an equal number of stupid .. selfish .. penalties .. the guy may have a motor but lacked any kind of awareness ..

  14. I never saw the post...I assumed the world was ending when I noticed it was down.  I was...gasp...I was forced to do something I don't normally do...it tore me apart inside like no feeling I've ever had...the pain...OH THE PAIN...I was.......I don't even know if I can say it out loud........ok here it goes...I was...I was forced to do work....*cries for 10 minutes*.  Don't ever frighten me like that again.

Trust me when I say this .. work is *definitely* something he doesn't normally do.
