Bombers TC Memories
Robert Bean. Had a decent year in 07 then fizzled out. I think his wife got into it with another poster on here. BTW I love this thread. So many old names.

Which Vets do we cut next season
Reminded me a bit of the 2021 WF the way the receivers bailed Collaros out in the 4th.

2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News
It’s a sad state of affairs when 3dn is the best CFL coverage in the country. 4 of their biggest contributing writers are shameless homers for Hamilton and the Riders. One Bomber guy on the site and it’s “I’m nOt A bOmBeR fAn, I’m A cFL fAn” John Hodge. Too bad his brother doesn’t write for them, better football knowledge and far less self-promotion.

Agreed, sort of. A possible angle is; They were ready before and we didn’t use them.

2023/2024 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread (BRADY’S BACK! DALTON’S BACK!)
After years and years of watching the Bombers not get the guy they wanted, I think we all know what it looks like. They wanted Buck first, full stop.

Whose authority? Yeah, what is O’Shea, like 6 years older than Buck? He could coach for another 10-15 years yet.

Right. The guy I was thinking of on our list forever was Andy Mulumba. We gave up the rights to Mace instead of Tom Canada for Zeke Moreno in 2008.

I don’t mind Friesen now. He’s mellowed considerably over the last decade or so.

Played for the Garden City Community College Broncobusters. Probably the greatest team name I’ve ever heard.

Call it what you want … you need to move on from Collaros
I think Cole would be perfect. Parker has the skill set for it too, albeit a little undersized. He plays way above his weight though.

Why must we be reminded of that piece of **** game? Get rid of this thread, I beg of you.

Call it what you want … you need to move on from Collaros
The last 5 years or so the SAM spot is cycling back to a true hybrid. Closer to what the SS is in the NFL. Early 2010’s it was essentially a 3rd HB. Guys like say a Clint Kent would come up and tackle, but you’d see the dimes covering the SB’s deep a lot more. Can’t just stick any good DB there anymore. That spot needs some real aggression and tacking skills. Gotta be able to come down hard on screens and flat routes, and strong enough to tackle bigger RB’s consistently.

If Buck goes, I wonder if there’s any chance we poach Costanza back to be OC Maybe he took a clock from Walters office or something..

2001 for sure. For fun. 93/94 had an equal or arguably better top end set of skill players. David Williams and Alfred Jackson were an amazing 1-2. I’d argue equal to Schoen/Lawler. Brady > Blaze Bryant/Richardson The depth kind of sucked back then though. Think Allan Boyko and Jamie Holland vs Bailey and Woli. I’d rank it 01-02, 23, 92-94

Also- As much as I’m in the keep Brown camp, I understand the difference between what I want vs what will actually happen. I’ve been thinking about Collaros. It would be really nice to see how much of a difference in play there would be if the center wasn’t regularly in his lap. Watched some season highlights over the last few days. Hate to harp on the same guy, but man did that OL ever look weaker in pass pro with Kolo in there. Could have been a bigger issue than we realize.

Exactly. Every year they come out with these huge “FA” lists the day after the Grey cup like 70% of those guys aren’t going to re-sign by February.

Ok good. If Buck moves on I want a clean break from residual Lapo with a new system, never mind the man himself coming back. I’m sure he’s a hell of a nice guy but the Lapo offence definitely has a ceiling. Every year since 2016 whoever our OC is gets penciled in for the Sask job. I’ll believe it when I see it. If anything, the job in Ottawa seems more appealing but I really don’t see Buck leaving here. If we’re going to lose an assistant hypothetically, it’s Jordan Younger I’d be most unhappy about.

Neither do I, but where is this Lapo back talk coming from?

Hey now, let’s not go bringing the 2019 run into this. Some things are sacred from criticism.

2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News
Like JBR was saying, it’s more of a promotion/sponsor-ish thing than owning. It was poor phrasing on my part. I’m more so meaning discounted season ticket packages, merch at different union shops/businesses. There’s a huge amount of staff at a lot of these places. We had something like that going for a while with the Bombers at my place of work. Anecdotally, it got a lot of folks buying tickets who wouldn’t have normally. Also got a few newer Canadians into the game, which never hurts.

Personally this is how I feel going into 2024. I’m not sure we have anything besides our own bird in our hand.

Iirc Calvillo only played half that year, (to support his wife battling cancer? Or some sort of similar family issue) Bombers beat the Als twice in the summer when Calvillo played, but it was Marcus Brady for them in the ESF that year. Good point though, Calvillo took his team to 3 cups in a row at age 36-38. He never had a competitive backup behind him however. If Montreal had found and kept a successor for AC and not expected him to carry the team into his 40’s, who knows if they ever fall off?

Also, if Strev comes back would you rather have 36 year old Zach, or a Brown/Strev combo?
