He's a proven returner who was a game changer when he was a returner in Saskatchewan.  I'm not unhappy with our return game but it couldn't hurt to throw him in there every so often just to change it up.

I'd rather not because he is not that big, but plays with a big heart.

At his age, there would be a good chance of getting him dinged up.

Would prefer to save him for the receiving corps.

I don't know how many years it's going to take but we have to find a way to play our games from the opening whistle for the next 60 minutes. This team maddeningly open plays in spurts and it's driving me crazy. Not far to go but ...

    Agree 100%.

Nichols is not the problem, he is the QB that can take this team to a GC win.

I have seen Bomber teams win a GC with a lot less.

Personnel wise, I think they might be closer than I thought.

This team needs to develop a killer instinct and when they do... look out

I expect it as much of this season to be a closely fought game. Dont think we win but i do think we play and perform better then we did against sask.

After last night I tend to agree.

Sask is better than some might think, particularly their receiving corps and Glenn played well. The defense played better than I expected for the first game and I think it will give BLM all he can handle.

If Bombers don't go ultra conservative they should be in the game competitively with a shot to win it.

  4. Going into this season I personally questioned whether the receivers Bombers have are good enough to stretch a defense when the game is on the line.

The performance last night of both Adams and Dressler has changed my mind on that. I'm starting to think it's the system they are running that is responsible for the lack of big plays consistently. When they fall behind and Lapo opened it up the receiving Corp did what it waz supposed to do.

I find it frustrating that they do not play wide open like that all the time. Particularly when they are playing a defense that shows no signs of being able to stop the big plays.

Would really like to see  them play wide open throttle all game against Calgary...

  5. Happy Canada Day!

Bombers need to come out strong today and win convincingly.

I still have some doubts regarding their receivers and overall scheme on defense,  but we will see. I'd like to see this team have some receivers like BC, Calgary, Edmonton, or even Sask.

    Can't wait for kick off....

I think you are looking to far in to the quote.. Obviously plan A is stop them from making a play but in football... The other team sometimes makes plays.. No team goes 2 and out with zero yards all game.

Also, if there is one player that you don't mind thinking about making that big hit first, that player would be Lofler.

You gotta love the physical way he plays - Old School

There used to be a Canadian safety named Scott Flagel...

“We’ve continued to practice running to the ball, stripping the ball. The ball-hawking that we did last year will come. It’s not out of the question that we can’t do it again.”

    Taylor Lofler

(its a confusing way to state his case - but the meaning is there)

That's great, but I'd prefer it if that was not "Plan A"...

"Plan A" should be to stop the offensive player from making the play.

Stripping the ball or picking off the next pass needs to be considered "Plan B".

Just want to wish my little nephew all the best, in his newest challenge. He has hands, a football mind, and the soul of a poet. He's played in the cold, and has the heart of a lion. Looking forward to wearing big blue, baby!!!

    Welcome to our team.

Bombers have sorely missed a physical presence at receiver - one that can catch a ball reliably from many formations - for a very long time now. This was something I always wanted to see added to the this team since about 2009.

Bomber fans can be very demanding, but they absolutely love players that have a big heart and play smart.

What injury does Richards have at the moment?

    Undisclosed lower body injury.

Out for 2 to 4 more weeks.

But similar to Neufeld, once healthy, it won't take more than an hour or two in practice or game situations until he gets himself back on the pogie train again. Some guys have that talent down to an art form and for some reason, ever since about 2009, Winnipeg Blue Bombers seem to have attracted a few of them. Does anyone know why we have been so unlucky that way?

Wolitarski looks to have good hands, good body control, not afraid of traffic, but isn't going to run away from many people. Maybe an Andy Fantuz sort of player.

Yes, this is the type of receiver that fits in well with what LaPolice likes to run - 5 yard outs or hook plays to the middle all day long...

Nothing wrong with that though. Joe Pop made a living catching shorter routes in traffic.

Addison Richards should get unloaded pretty soon if this guy signs to go along with Blasko. It's about time.

  11. The key will be the Bomber offence. They have to control the ball and avoid going two and out at all times.

With the quick release, Glenn's experience and those receivers against an extremely soft Winnipeg secondary, pressure up front is not going to matter much and the Riders will be controlling the clock and marching up and down the field when they have the ball.

Best chance for a Bomber win is to match them point for point and keep the ball away from the Sask offence for as long as possible on every series. If they start off going two and out, it could get ugly early.

Now that we have all seen one real game, let's take a moment and revise our predictions for this season, just in case any of us need to save face or develop our ego:

    Mine

    Winnipeg 13 - 5

    Calgary 11-6-1

    Edmonton 11-7

    Vancouver 10-8

    Ottawa 8-9-1

    Toronto 8-10

    Montreal 6-12

    Regina 5-13

    Hamilton 3-15

The wild card to all this is which QBs will be injured for how long: Winnipeg & Edmonton followed by Ottawa have the best depth but that could be debated

Winnipeg IMHO will be amongst the most improved teams in the league ... the games we will lose will be about Sam Hurl and defensive coaching decisions ... we will do well this year because we have improved an already decent team showing up with better depth and maturity

Calgary doesn't have quite as much talent as last year but they still have a lot ... and Messam is better .... Bo Levi Mitchell will have to face his ego .... Calgary has been on a roll for a long time and every once in a while your luck runs out

Edmonton carries over a lot of talent and has new stuff .... still a few holes and the loss of Sherritt is massive .... a top 3 contender

I would rank Vancouver and Ottawa as the next most talented  .... with QBing not as good as expected: maturity woes but definitely not awful

Toronto is going to be the most improved team in the league because of talent assembly and coaching ... no depth at QB is what will keep them mediocre ... if anyone can over achieve this year its Trestman

Montreal has improved its QBing but its central core seems to be past its prime date ... the transition to new talent will be a process

In Regina Jones's scissors and duct tape will get them some wins against over confident rivals .... somehow Jones provides enough hope to keep his job another year

Hamilton has not done enough to improve its talent  base .... management could lose faith in Austin and fire him after Collaros disappoints

Another charming season ahead for all of us gurus

I'm just curious, you have the Bombers well ahead of all the competition here. How do you see that happening when they give up an average of 24 points a game and only score an average of 27 points a game? Calgary only gives up 20 points a game and scores 33 points a game and you know they are consistent year after year. How would they possibly finish 2 games behind the Bombers? Are you just being optimistic or do you see some secret weapon being unveiled that has not been tested so far in preseason? Based on the progress that the rest of the teams have been making every off season, most pundits who are in the know are picking Bombers to finish 4th in the West at best and 6th or 7th overall.
