So the XFL has been having some meetings with no news breaking which has had me thinking. They just parted ways with their former president, who was supposed to stay on. I think itll be interesting to see when news does break from them. When the talks broke off with the cfl, the XFL announced they would try to come back in 2022, with some people currently speculating 2023 is more realistic. The USFL scooped the XFLs fox tv spot, but fox is investing 150m to the usfl over the first 3 years. I suspect the XFL will need to partner with either the USFL or the CFL to get any traction. Building roster, front offices, coaching staffs and support crews is very intensive and some positions like experienced scouts and pro head coaches are kind of limited. If they arent partnering with the CFL, I could see them making an announcement around and before the grey cup game. Especially if their announcement is a partnership with the USFL. If they make an announcement and start making official moves after the grey cup, I think its likely that they return to the table and establish some sort of CBA and partnership. Even if its just access to players coaches etc or even shared advertisement fluff stuff. With out a president, or much of any football minds involved they are pretty destabilized for a spring league aiming for a 2022 launch. Making 1 big announcement with a new president, some football types and maybe another media type would be a big step towards starting again. (before probably folding yet again after 1 year)

Who are we likely to lose after this season??

100%, manitoba has a bit of every thing to offer. And while Mos had a great career in TO, he's pretty entrenched in winnipeg. It took a long long time to fully build the culture top to bottom, I dont see him leaving that easily. I dont think walters is a threat to leave either. He, wade, and mos have a synergy and shared vision that is crazy to try and replace or replicate. Similarly this role is exactly what the Mac attack wants. He gets to spend his time with his family down south, and has a lot of input on scouting and his hours. Ted goveia, is going to be a GM and or president of another team though imo. As will rigmaiden at some point, maybe with the lions as soon as next year with the new owners in place. And I could see goveia bringing a coach or two like younger and costello with him in new capacities. I could see edmonton wanting to get away from this toxic crappy culture they have and bringing in a guy like goveia in the off season to run the elk. -
This is an interesting quesiton. Im hoping its some one who is on the PR and who wont be traveling or playing in the play offs either way.

JWJ to the xfl 3.0 in the off season.

agree 100%. I think he could be very effective in a lot of short route wr/sb play to off set his carries too. Mesh concept, outs, screens, hitches etc. I wish we'd involve him in the passing game more this year and split his carries. -

I wouldnt be surprised if we lose an ol, likely bryant or neufeld to retirement. Neuf isnt as old but he's had a lot of injuries over 10 seasons. Nick taylor will be 34 next year. I too hope we move on past darvin adams. He isnt a no2, or even a no3 wr any more. WIth injuries, I could see harris wanting to try next year but likely we've seen the last of harris as an every down every game back. I think the NFL may come calling for alford and nichols. They may well come for lawler too. If not lawler and even bailey could be prime FA targets in the cfl. Collaros, and all our OL bodies will be prime targets in free agency, for those who dont re sign. We've gotta keep Eli and Desjerlais. Jeffcoat and Wilie would be hot commodities in the FA market too, they may have aged out of the NFL window now and might want long term high paying deals. But I could also see them wanting to stay here together. They are real close, and are great together. The mafia will have a tough off season. Not just in re signing guys who took cuts this year, but in possibly replacing a handful of starters who are nfl / retirement bound. -
Haha oh man that's gonna suck for him. This defense about to end that man's whole career.
-
Its kind of just the nature of the CFL now, and in the post covid year. A lot of players re worked deals to take less money and will be FAs this off season. I expect this to be the biggest projected free agency ever. That said, I think especially our core lines will stay together for the most part. Maybe jeffcoat gets an nfl deal, maybe an ol retires, but I dont expect wholesale change. I think they will do what it takes to keep bryant and hardrick of one doesnt retire, and to keep desjarlais. Id be stunned if eli isnt starting here next year. We've gotten our biggest want from a roster stand point. But I think that if taylor is going to miss any significant amount of time a much bigger run at bringing winston rose back would happen too.

If we keep starting neuf at T, collaros wont be healthy when we need him.
-
Soo happy with this move didn't know bc still had his cfl. Rights. But he's the kicker to get imo. Castillo is a better punter than legs too imo. And drastically better at ko.
-
True. But all in all Id much rather we sign lirim (who just worked out for washington) sergio castillo (who had 2 work outs at the end of july but no deal) or Maher (who last got worked out at the end of sept but also got no contract.) And save the draft pick.
-
Soo true. But the whole league is. We've lost a young starting NI each of the last like 3 years. Right? Again I bet our top 7 guys are expensive compared to other teams, but we are crazy deep at ol. Id take hardrick over the rest of that list. Desjarlais too.
-
Lawler played at boundary WR while adams was out, and the two flip spots frequently in each game. Thats your high production wide out spot and suits lawler really well. Bailey has also been solid in his looks at that spot, but lawler is really the guy to fit that spot best.
-
Desperate bad teams will over pay for mediocre OLs, and under achieve with the OL talent they have. Funny that we only have 1 in the top 10, I bet our top 7 combined make as much as most any team in the league. Id love to see a 10 imps and 10 ni in this category. I feel like this is where a lot of NI are making their money. And I think this article is a great addition to 3dn, the wr one was good too. Thanks for sharing it.

I mean he's probably still injured or some thing. There is probably a good reason why his hands look like lucky whiteheads after he got hurt. Ok ok ill stop, dont need another self loathing bomber fan we have that quota covered. Id love nothing more than to see him return to his peak form, and have a giant wbbfan and the rest of the haters can shove it game / finish to the year. But if not I feel like this could be his last season. Hes our least reliable and valuable starting wr right now. 3 ok games, 3 invisible games, 2 horrible games. Bailey struggled early, but really turned it around. So I hope he manages the same. He used to be such a dangerous deep threat, when we could barely throw a deep ball. Otherwise, I think we are better off with mcknight in, and woli moved to slot.
-
I get what youre saying, but we've actually used the empty backfield a lot this year too. Far more than id like, especially with hardrick out. But yeah, its going to be a big adjustment once harris retires.
-
Some no1 wrs? Nah. Bailey is just coming into his own. Lawler and collaros struggled on a couple hook ups and he certainly needs to be out there post suspension. Demski should be used more and more consistently, even more so with woli. Darvin adams should sit, but wont be sat. But with agudosi suspended we are kind of limited in options and we dont really need more slow wrs like rosie. I wouldnt worry about it, he wont catch the shade either. 😉

He's been running up the middle since his first year here, I can count on 1 hand how many out side zone runs he's had in all his years here. You dont bet a DB to the edge from a run up the middle of the field even if you are tyreek hill. Ive seen him especially on screen passes beat Sams and safties and get tackles by out side HBs and corners. But he still out runs dbs. Harris would out run most of our WR core too.
-
Im of the school of thought that if you are going to roster some one for an entire season, you should make the most out of them. Especially if we may be headed towards the end of harris' career. 1 touch in 10 games isnt great. Especially if harris misses a game, we should make more use of augustine. If that happens id also love to see demski get more carries. His blocking this year has been very good. We are spoiled with just how amazing harris is at it, but brady is one of the better blockers among primary runners too. Im 1000x more worried about Neufeld and right tackle. If we start him again we will see the best pass rushers sliding over to his side and frequent extra rushers. Its way too easy for guys to run around him out side of his reach and get to the qb. Most rbs are not lock down blockers. Tackles are normally 300 ish lbs and specialize in picking up the edge. To expect a RB to pick up 100% of the pressures he sees is un realistic. Most tackles have 70-100 lbs on brady and a life time of blocking experience. Brady, and every rb that follows harris for us is going to surprise a lot of fans in what most good blocking RBs are capable of and how much less it is than what harris has been able to do. The only other RB ive ever seen thats comparable in blocking is mike sellers. And he was pretty much the size of the smaller tackles back then.

He was kind of stuck between going hard as soon as he got the ball and waiting. Now he is waiting and timing his burst to hit gaps and it looks beautiful. He is extremely talented. He's grown a lot as a blocker and pass catcher since he arrived here too. Gotta be great to learn under the great harris and demski too. Eli is masterful at opening holes even when he stays at the first level. The way he turns his man then pushes them out of the way is some fantastic. Not too surprising being as he is a natural center, but man the more he plays the better he looks. At this point if harris was healthy this week, we should probably rotate backs and take some load off harris shoulders. We dont need him carrying the ball 20 or 25 times in a regular season game this year.
-
I also enjoyed the game film break downs they did in the pre game show. Could it be tsn is actually moving towards what the younger demographic wants??? Id bet this is the case. No need to force a move now, wait till the bye week and make the best move possible. Why trade an asset if we can get one of the 3 former cflers looking for NFL contracts? Why over pay if we dont have to, and worst case if a trade is to be made itll still be available at the dead line. Slow playing the hand only gives us a bit more leverage.
-
Every time it looks like a team solidifies it self as the no2 team in the west, they collapse. Out side of the bombers finishing first, I wouldnt bet on any thing.
-
you think if shiltz plays really poorly they will stick with him over harris? I dont buy that at all. I think shiltz gets this week to really impress. If he doesnt, its harris time.
-
Neufeld isnt. Hes flat out too slow to defend the edge. There isnt a worse T in pass protection pro football. Gray 100% is better. Richmond on our PR was the top rated T prospect in all of college at one point. On track for a top 5 nfl draft choice and a massive deal. He had bad luck with playing on big teams that were bad. The vols, and USC. Every one thought USC would bounce back and they just didnt. That guys is as blue chip as an imp tackle prospect gets. Burks is the quintessential small school dominant T. Extremely mobile but was considered too small for the NFL. Keep in mind we got rid of rid of two guys when we got access to these guys. 1 was extremely well seasoned and sent to TO as an immediate starter, the other was an NFL starter. Both these guys had a lot of hype in the NFL and just missed out with the covid college year and influx of talent at the nfl level. Hope its just precautionary. Also hope brady can build on what he showed vs edm.
