CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
wbbfan replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Surprised Kelly is not gonna try fa even cfl fa it is really good for the league though. Imo it’d be better if he wasn’t in a dead market but hey young good qb staying is good news. I wonder how much he got? I can’t imagine it’s low. Argos probably pulling a bomber move handing out the remaining bonus cap money this year to reduce his cap hit next. -

He moved on from us because we wanted stipulations that he would play games and have a proper off season and under estimated some one else’s willingness to over pay him. Baileys production for his amount of reps and being the last imp on the hot list plus his blocking and leadership are worth a lot. No doubt he could be a 1k plus guy with ease if he was a teams no1 or 2 target. -

Yeah I love coles aggressiveness, athleticism and football iq. He gives up the body to make the play for the team soo often too. Gotta work a guy like that in more and more. Yeah he’d be a lot of fun to see at S. it’d be great to get him rotating in as an extra s instead of Hallett and really get ba to mentor him. That’s the perfect guy to learn from. -

Man a good ni hback who could fill the role of Jackson would be sick. And that is sad. You’re right that the pool has been thinner and the nfl has been digging deeper into cfl ol talent pools. That said in the past we have chased guys with nfl camp invites on ol and other wise. -

Hopefully some one young in the defensive side. The dark side needs fresh blood. -

Imo not unless we find another schoen Esq star impact rookie on a cheap deal in camp. We need to get back to drafting high upside ol. Since Dobson the pipeline has been empty. And we will need to have good young guys in those back up spots, not new versions of kola. I can’t not imagine moving on from Cole. He’s shown soo many glimpses of being special. So it’ll probably be him going lol Agree. -

The min imp deal is like 65k. Vs Bailey at 100k. Darby is similar. So that’s 75k minimum. Augustine is very close to Brady with about 100k. The cfl min for nis is 54k. Giving us another 46k for 121k. Neufeld we don’t know his salary. But it’s safe to say around 125-150k. Again that would go down by about half for some one like eli if not more. Then the ni to replace Eli would go down by another 30k. So likely that saves in the range of 60-75k for some thing in the range of 180-195k. With all those savings we could add an impact cfl vet free agent and give brady the 150k range he deserves. -

I think brown will be getting low end starter money offers in the off season. But Augustine too. He’s not versatile at all and inconsistent plus un used running the ball. Can’t pay him Brady money. Brady will get a raise too but probably not more than say 50k. I don’t think he has any interest in leaving either. When we go younger on the ol and finally start eli and eventually Dobson they will be cheaper than our starters and new back ups will be cheaper than them too double savings. You know Darby isn’t cheap, Bennett is probably over paid a good bit. Clements being a vet is probably over paid. -

My problem with all this is rourke is getting attention like he’s playing at a pro bowl level, when he’s a fringe player who won’t see a single regular season snap this year. Mean while we haven’t heard **** about the record 5 Canadians drafted this year in the nfl. Or guys ranging from Hubbard who has 1k career rush yards to singleton who’s killed it down south. Singleton only recently got a blurb about it being strange that the stamps suck now. When in the last 3 years he’s put up 421 combined tackles, 2 sacks 2 picks 8 knock downs 2 forced fumbles 2 fumble recoveries and 2 defensive tds in 49 games with 31 starts. It’s Jessie Palmer all over again. -
I guess you didn’t go to many games early on in the opening of the new stadium lol. I’ve gone to games with little hope or expectation of us winning. Because it’s about supporting the team, and some times just hoping to see a player develop for us and be a piece to turn things around. I hope to win the lottery, but I’ve never played it and probably won’t. So I expect to lose, but not as much as most people who play the lottery 😛 I expect us to win. Every one in the league does. Our guys expect to win. Ssk probably has some expectation of defending home field and winning the big rivalry game. I expect their best as always. This is their grey cup. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Funny enough those two weren’t even the worst dbs we played lol. Both were good Canadian foot soldiers. Drover was a surprisingly good tackler. I was pretty surprised by that for sure. I remember pining for an offence that would put up like 300 combined yards a game back then. An offence with blink and milt. Horrible times. that was a heart breaking moment. Had soo much hope for k9 and he was such a good dude. I mean in an era of fa pick ups like Wayne mcgarity it was a low water mark. Idk who would’ve been our best vet cfl pick up in that era but I’m sure it wasn’t good. -

Didn’t have great players but his schemes and complicated coverage gap scheme and slow blitzes were horrid. That’s a good point though he was a replacement, but he did have more talent. rust had potential, called D for the giants with lt at one point, seemed like the switch to the Canadian game was tough for him. I recall rusts departure being never well covered. -

The cfl mouthpieces who get the most coverage seem to think that what the league needs is a Canadian star qb story. Guys like Alex singleton deserve all the news and hype the rourkes have gotten. -

A lot of nfl tcf comes from those leagues. Wake me up when they churn out pro bowlers and hofers -
Shawn lemon situational. Teams don’t think he has enough left to warrant the pay he will want. Certainly a really good guy to have around. Especially as a naturalized Canadian. He blocks great, coach on the field and locker room for WRs, and still a deep threat. I’d rather have him on our pr then a couple guys we have now.

I’d love to see the riders pushed out of the play off picture. This two game stand could be a big step towards that. I can not imagine us coming out flat in either game, or them having a big come back. I expect dominance.

Leader in passing yards. The leading passer would be some one who is at or near the lead in all the good passer categories. Other wise you could say a guy who goes 4/4 on the season is the leagues leading passer, in completion percentage he is. They are always trying to pump up mediocre QBs. They act as If they fool the average fan into thinking the qb depth in the league is good maybe it’ll come true. -
They all need to go to Darvin adams qb school

Thing is he’s good at blocking down to smaller guys and he doesn’t seem capable of putting a rush on any one eating blocks or covering kicks. Even as an ni I think you can find a guy who can block down and provide value carrying the ball a bit or covering on teams. He’s like 1/10th a thiadric Hansen. Maybe he will develop more but despite his career as a marine and his size he just doesn’t seem to have more than average athleticism. And even that I think is generous. -
I want to see a foot race between Jackson and Jake the snake. 4 minute 30 second 14 yard dash.

1 Brady tremendous game again 2 jeffcoat and the dl massive game shutting down the run game and bringing the physicality 3 Demski huge game blocking running catching did it all hh the rose pic was a thing of beauty crunch of the game we had a lot on D, and Brady bruising as always but jeffcoat knocked cf out his way to get the fumble on the wild snap was great awe that’s dirty maruo cant punch guys cmon block of the game sheed and Demski sealing the edge for Brady’s big run Honourable mentions the whole secondary brought a ton of physicality, collaros had a huge bounce back, not many QBs can recover from two early pick 6s. Mos for winning two challenges, and the cc for some make up calls, kyrie was great Lawson too.
