Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

The difference between a dominant rb and a dominant pass rusher, Sam or S is gigantic. Rbs also don’t have a long shelf life, especially physical runners like Brady. Ryquell Armstead could do a lot of what Brady did last year for Pennies on the dollar. Mills, brown lots of guys would. Like I said it isn’t our biggest waste or even close to it, but it’s a hard cap hit to make work. We have a lot of those currently. And half of em are under performing. -

I love Brady, and what he does in terms of marketing and off the field stuff. I’d hate to lose him. But it you are comparing a defensive player of the year type to a rb in terms of money, I’ll take the defensive guy every day. I’d a sat down with Brady and been 100% with him. I’d give him all the off cap money possible like the appearance thing n junk, but I wouldn’t pay that much for a rb. Part of the problem is the amount we are paying the combination of Brady, Augustine, mci and feltmate is insane. Not to mention 4 roster spots. Especially when our di kr is a natural rb. If mci isn’t ready to be a fb/back up runner Ned contribute on kick cover keep him on the pr, let woli and clercius fill the role. We could’ve kept rosery, used clercius in blocking situations and gone di kr/rb for the back up rb and saved probably 85% of Brady’s salary. Especially with us carrying 7 ol. -

Because there is no reason. The only limit to how good strev is and will be here is how well we use him. -

The designed qb runs should be based around making big plays not grinding out 5. The threat of him on a naked bootleg or option motion after handing off takes a guy out of the run stop and opens a lot up. When he throws on the roll defenders freeze up soo bad. If we ran offences like what we saw and see used with Fajardo and sprinkled in some qb runs it could turn our entire year around. -

Think Ferguson nailed it in that comment. Probably did great in drills, and chalk talk. The draft was deep with high upside guys and guys from us schools, I think we got a sure thing guy and the guys above him were mostly pipe dream lotto tickets. With Samson who can maybe take a step forward next year, Hubert who has been our best Canadian dl, Lawson getting healthy and Schmekel taking a step forward we are in a good spot for nis on dl. When Lawson back I think Hubert will only be behind him in terms of quality. -

I’d love to see Hubert come into camp next year at a lean 270-275 ish and be a guy who can play as much dt as end. -

He was / is a tweener with almost dt size but not quite. And he was underwhelming in basically all tests at the combine. 10 reps 5+ second 40 etc. he played a style of pass rush in college that wasn’t projectable as a pro, speed rushing off the edge. He’s shown to be far smarter and adaptable than expected, guys like that are always valuable. A lot of positions are chess games with the opposition, he’s good at finding ways to win battles and playing with in his tool set. His hand rush and bull rush are good enough to play the edge, and hes a guy who plays faster than he runs. Hes just a damn good football player, not a track athlete type. -

Very likely. My concern would be him playing through an injury that severely limits his mobility, and/or causes a further injury that shuts him down for the year or for good. With the status of our ol and team idk how he’d come back next year either. Guys a beast and loyal as it gets though so who knows. -

Jake Thomas loooool cry great motor, really smart disciplined guy, does a great job of using his hands to disengage and win some battles on the edge. We’ve been dying for a guy like him since kongbo left. Incredible find. If he can develop a bit he can be a game changing rotational guy. -

Tbh at this point zach being on the field is already playing down a man any way. When we also spot the other team and advantage on the line with our interior ol, lack of depth wrs right now and feltmate man it’s like power play football for the opponent all the time. -
Give me laura, paul, naylor/ferguson, blm/matty and maybe another coach type on the panel. Lapo matty and blm go back and forth between the panel and colour and scianitti on pbp. Give Sanchez a shot on colour as well. it’s not a perfect unit, but it’d be drastically better than what we’ve had for a long time. also who ever direct camera work this year / last year replaced with any one who has a clue how to put sports on tv.

The pass behind the line game always ends up leaking into illegal down field blocking. We’ve seen this cycle repeatedly for atleast 25 years and it always takes soo long for them to crack down on the illegal blocks down field.

She was such a breath of fresh air. It seems like every one on the panel normally is so busy trying to be a big personality like Stephen a smith or some thing. You’ve got to have a give and take, while still letting the news/sport/event be the star. Like pti with kornheiser and wilbon. Those guys get balancing the Shtick with the topic, and playing off each other. Maybe it’s just a case of me being an old man yelling at clouds. But even the more shlocky presentations like inside the nba do it much better.

Agree big time, I think we are at the dawn of the strevy era. That’s a really good point actually. Having lucky to run sweep motion stuff, which is easy and in his wheel house, which lets Demksi run down field more and give us that nice catch and run mid range threat. I’d love to see woli in lawlers spot till he’s back. Too, give us a big reliable catcher getting down field. even clercius too. Yeah he’s a damn good pass catcher. I’m really impressed. I’d love to see some layered back field motion. Demski, brady, and lucky could interweave jet, orbit, rocket, fly, return etc motion. imagine having demski on jet sweep motion on the snap, having lucky pre snap rocket motion, and Brady on return running out then back to his spot for the snap. You can run demski inside, lucky around the edge, Brady with a slot back type of waggle momentum and set up screen plays on a fast count plus every thing strevy brings. That would pull the dl tight to the line opening up seams for passing and break away lanes for strevy and Demski inside. -
How do you feel about the difference between the elk and the riders? I feel like the elk are far better than their record the riders worse especially with Harris out. I think both are really close in quality but I could see the elk getting better. Edm ssk might be a really good play off game

Lofton is bad at defending speed off the edge, he’s struggled with how far to kick slide allowing him self to be ridden right back into the qbs lap, and he struggled with twists/blitzes. Hes good at blocking the bull rush and dealing with guys who go right at him. As you would expect from a career guard before coming up here. And a riders cast off. Free agency for ol is a tough call, some times a guy needs a position change like hardrick or a chance like bond. Talent wise it’s honestly a big question mark at 2nd guard and we don’t have a second tackle. The stark reality imo looks like this LT Bryant lg no defined starter, wallace =/= dobson C Eli. No cfl calibre back up, maybe Dobson RG Lofton=/= vanterpool, randolph RT no cfl quality tackle In my mind this season is already on the verge of being a wash, couple weeks I’d start playing for next year. At that point I’d run this ol bryant wallace eli/dobson Randolph vanterpool I would give that 1 or 2 weeks, then cut the worst of the imps air lift in new guys and give Dobson another couple weeks at guard. The goal would be to develop a rt, and gauge dobsons ability to improve with some more focus on assignment and role in the short term. When did gray play rt? Maybe late in a pre season game once but I never saw him get any chance at it. He did however excel as the 6th ol jumbo pack in passing plays. Neuf wasn’t better than any one at rt. He is the least mobile guy we’ve had since bob camerons final season. -
His change of direction and hip fluidity is still worlds better too. Ratio breaking dbs are almost as rare as qbs. Truth. If you count the double dipping of yards he passed to Brady they combined for almost 400 yards. If you look at Zack’s play off stats and record it’ll tell you you can win against the best teams in the biggest games with out a lot of passing yards. Buck needs to plan and call a better passing game, but we destroyed the rbs in top which is one of the biggest keys to victory. Zach put up almost 300 passing the first time against ott when we lost too.

Hes 5’10 194. The big thing these days is a guy who more along the lines of a wil at 215 ish. Picket is the best Sam in the league by miles and is 5’11 210 ish. And yes, 15 very lean pounds makes a big difference at a position like db. Rene is 6’2 206. Kramdi is smaller than the modern prototype of a Sam, but I don’t think that’s the issue. He is ok at making tackles when the guy is in his arms/chest. He struggles with tackles when it’s a close out though. Ends up diving and arm tackling and missing. He makes mistakes like not looking back to the ball, and missing positioning in pattern match. When he gets into or finds him self in the right place at the right time he’s hit or miss on finishing out opportunities. Hes a good dime, and kind of stuck with a tweener skill set. And for a guy in his 4th year with 40 plus games id expect him to make less mistakes. With how we play, wil really isn’t much different than dime. Inside wall player hcf zones, the wil just had more asked of him in run fits. Kramdi is definitely too small for wil. I think S would be decent though, if he can cover the ground needed. Most ni S players don’t cover a ton of ground though.
