July 12, 201411 yr Remember how Jets 'tanked' their last few games (ie. winning) to lose a possible 6th draft pick (7th for sure). How far would Jets have had to really tank to avoid picking Ehlers with 9th pick in first round? My guess is that they would have had to have 5th overall to select another players. Didn't make a difference at 6, 7, 8 or 9 - Ehlers would have been their guy. Any other thoughts on this?
July 12, 201411 yr you've seen their draft board have you? This draft basically went thusly: There were 4 guys at the top then another 4 or 5 clustered together.
July 12, 201411 yr FWIW, on my incredibly uneducated board built off reading blogs and watching some highlight videos, I had Ehlers 5th on my draft board.
July 12, 201411 yr I recall speculation was Jets wanted Ehlers and had him higher than where they picked him. Jets certainly arent afraid to go with their internal draft board over the "experts". I do agree Nate, that top 5 would have been something different, but they liked Ehlers.
July 12, 201411 yr Rumours were they were wanting to trade up to get Reinhardt. But Ehlers at 9 is a steal. Canucks probably reached a bit with Virtanen and the Hurricanes went with need instead of skill, They really lack d men in Carolina.
