Ian Wild is easily one of the Top 4 or 5 players on the bomber roster. Great guy, even better player.

Yeah, he's a tad small but so was Wayne Harris. We weren't that shut-down last year even with the immortal "Malcolm" (Muamba) in the Middle and the defensive coaching brilliance of Tim Burke.

It doesn`t look like there`s a lot of confidence in Etcheverry here, but it all comes down to two things: we`re saddled with him, like it or not, and O`Shea ought to be able to figure out whether his new DC is competent or not. We ought to know within the first month or so if we`re in for another long season.

Yes, Wild is very good, but trying to assess last year`s performance of the defensive unit is like trying to judge a track meet during an earthquake. It was such a mess on so many levels that the best thing to do is try to forget it and start with a fresh mindset.

Etcheverry's defense won't be built to handle the inside run, let alone stop it.  But even when teams can't stop the run, nobody runs except Calgary recently and Saskatchewan in 2013 with Sheets.  Suber could end up as MLB for all we know.  It's all zone blitzes, not much gap control, so that will be a big difference from Burke, Muamba would just sit in an inside gap most of the time, and then attack the ball through his gap.  Doubt any LB spot in Etchverry's D will be anywhere near the LOS pre-snap as often as Muamba was.

I don't like that scenario you describe.

Etch is similar to Greg Marshall where his defenses have these fabulous starts in the first third of the season before tailing off afterwards once all the other teams catch on to what you're doing.

What Defensive co-ordinator ISN'T like that though?Defences usually outshine the offence the first 3rd of the season.

I like the idea of Wild at MLB... the bombers site lists him at 6'0, 207lbs, he could probably get up to 215-220lbs ands maitain his speed and athleticism... would still make him a smallish MLB but defintely big enough to play there.... I wonder if they envision Newman, Wild and Parker as our primary LBs...

The biggest benefit to having Morley at C is his experience... I think Lavertu or Goosen will be given a very serious opportunity to start from day one...
