Fatty Liver replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No, but how about trading Willy for Franklin? If the Bombers continue on to a 0-6 start under Willy I'm all for ditching him mid-season while he still has some trade value. Franklin, Masoli, Lulay, Cato...doesn't matter much as it will be a salary dump and a sign that the QB job in Wpg. is once again open for competition. Whether Nichols, Davis or whoever gets the majority of starts after that won't matter much as the goal will be to start fresh with a better QB in 2017. -
When Willy took off running in desperation on that last drive, a big red neon sign buried deep within my subconscious began to flash. GOLTZ GOLTZ GOLTZ.

Huh?

Judge for yourself, there is no indication O'Shea was happy with the effort. I think he presented an edge not shown before. http://www.bluebombers.com/2016/06/25/post-game-coach-oshea-17/

I agree, Kevin Glenn is channeling Calvillo right now and that combo is going to cause major fits for any DC. Willy doesn't have Glenn's skill set, he is more similar to Ricky Ray in athletic ability, build and mobility. Ray's success was built upon a war chest of great offencive weapons and a heavy reliance on timing roots, Willy needs to do the same. Willy can be reprogrammed but it isn't going to be pretty.

Are you willing to give him 4 years to prove he is QB that can produce a winning record?
-
A 3 step drop is usually a 2 second play, expecting to hold off a blitz-crazy opponent for 3 seconds is courting disaster. The 3-step drop has got to become Willy's bread and butter as his ad-libbing skills are poor.
-
He was on the PR until Harris missed the last few practices, so he was only added to the roster as a pre-cautiion.
-
That's a valid point but Willy seems best suited to working with a 3 second window to find his receivers, which can't be realistically provided for in this era of football.
-
Can't fault LaPo's scheme, it would have looked brilliant with Collaros at the helm.

Open up the window, let some air into this room I think I'm almost chokin' from the smell of stale perfume And that cigarette you're smokin' 'bout scare me half to death Open up the window, sucker, let me catch my breath

The point is that they have not brought any QB's in with the intention of seriously challenging Willy. Instead O'Shea has settled on the idea that Willy is the ultimate solution and the only QB's the scouts have found (which isn't many) have been brought in only to support Willy, not to challenge him for the starters job.
-
Instead of anointing Willy the starter, he should have been seriously challenged in year one, two and three.

Bombers Opener June 24 ... (also Laine Day!)

Maybe they will learn from this game and try to establish Harris early in the first half. Would like to see them use Flanders as a change of pace back as well. -

Andrew Harris, did his bit as did Smith, Adams and Davis. New offence will take time to jell but there is some hope. -

Willy really lacks touch, he rarely hits receivers in stride. -

Rod's just funny is all, especially when he's usually dead wrong. -

Sure did, it must have taken 15 minutes just to get him onto the stretcher. I imagine what it ended up being was a major stinger that temporarily paralyzed his arms or legs, thus the precaution. -

I'd bet what Franklin is looking for through F.A. is a place to start and a move up on the QB salary ladder. If he finds that possibility in Sask. he could be content to forego F.A.. All of that is out the window if he thinks he has NFL interest though. -

Considering St. John is pretty close to a wasted draft pick I'd take that deal if I was Jones. Franklin could save their butts this year if Durant goes down, and Sask. would also be the right place, right time destination for Franklin to take over the starting QB role in a year or two. -
Tony Missick leaving Calgary; WPG or SSK bound?
Fatty Liver replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Seeing as how Hall likes to spend his game time up in the box it seems like a good idea to have specific coordinators down at field level during game time to communicate with their group. With the hiring of Missick the Bombers now have 4 assistants on both offence and defence.
