  1.

I just don't understand why we'd play him in the slot either.

Foster should be at the wideout spot opposite MSW/Kelly, instead they do exactly what we did to Bowman a couple years ago and play him in a spot that accentuates his inabilities. He's not more than average as a wideout either, but he's doing far below average in the slot.

Really seems like someone somewhere got enamoured with his size and potential ability to block that they figured he was a natural at slotback... I want Etienne back cause at least Etienne hangs onto the ball when it comes to him.

me too .... he is just coming into his own ... other teams can see this too .... this is what I hate about Burke's judgment

Foster is a good player for Ottawa

  2. I believe Dickenson would come here as HC if he was also given the GM title (so he could control Walters and all personnel decisions).... yet he is entirely unproven even if he is well heeled

The Peter Principle applies to many HCs & GMs (and especially to Burke) so whether Dickenson has the right stuff (good football judgment & insight plus real leadership) is a big unknown .... Burke reached the top of his game as DC but has been proven capable of no more

Our league is filled with assistant coaches and coordinators who were incapable of being the top dog (i.e. HC) .... good leaders at the top are rare ... so lets not get our expectations too high

  3.

Worth pointing out re: Hall, he is also coming off a year out of football as a player.

...and was out of shape and didn't start training in earnest until mid May. Hold on to your hats folks, very few people have seen what he's capable of when he's in shape. And when you do, you won't even remember how to spell collaros - or care. Yes the O-line needs work, but Burke, if he stays, needs to be a leader without question. He is the most, "Maybe..., if..., we might possibly..., I think..., I hope..., we really should..., it was weird stuff... milquetoast of a coach I've ever heard. There is light at the end of this tunnel and it's not an oncoming train.

Sounds exciting but I just don't know if he's ever going to get a chance to show it. Time may be running out.

    How is time running out?

  4. When Morley's coming back from injury is seen as strengthening the o-line you know we have a problem

    Walters is high on Neufeld

    Parentau might help

Swiston & Pencer need coaching help as does the whole o-line .... we have no such coach

Unless we get a real QB for our 1st round pick, we had better use it on the best lineman out there

AND we need to break the bank in FA this February for both QB & o-line

Standing pat with what we have won't work & neither will making excuses about it either

Wade Miller must have the freedom to spend abundantly on coaches and players

We will see if Miller is filled with wisdom or foolishness

  5. Hall has as much upside as any QB we have had since Glenn left us ... the next couple games will be revealing ... if he can keep passing for over 300 yards in the next two games  then maybe we don't have to spend our number one draft pick to acquire Drew Tate before the expansion draft

  6.

I'm sure there will be better QBs available than Max Hall.

Say for the sake of argument we swing a trade with Calgary for Drew Tate before the expansion draft: who does Ottawa grab for their two QBs?

DeMarco from BC (after watching him play last night I doubt it)?

Nichols from Edmonton (maybe if they get past injury concerns)?

A Montreal QB (Smith for his potential or one of their unprovens)?

    Hamilton's #2 (really)?

Collaros, Glenn & Willie are FA's

So which two ahead of Hall (especially if he continues his improvement)?

Who do you see Ottawa taking if there are no other trades (outside of Calgary and something will happen there)?

Which non-FA QB is better than Max Hall?

They will sign Glenn as a free agent and take Tate and/or LeFevor as backup.

Tate or BML will be traded .... its just a question of which club will bid the highest

  8. Sims-Walker now appears to be a no-brainer protect

What worries me is if Hall continues putting up similar passing yardage to yesterday in our last two games: no only would it put Burke back on life support but it might also have Ottawa drafting Max Hall come Dec 16 (if we don't designate him)... I would like to see us trade for a QB prior to the expansion draft but don't want to lose Hall in the process

  9. What's missing in this discussion is that Ottawa will at most draft 1 or 2 FA's and half the players being discussed are FAs

The RedBlacks are likely to take the top 8 NIs available regardless of position (for their NI starting positions)... in the 3rd round they will likely be after STers and backups

Their QB picks will not be free agents so we will see the likes of Nichols & Demarco or Smith picked if of course they don't end up as a Bomber ... most likely the Blue will trade for Tate or Nichols and go after another QB hard such as Collaros, Willy and or Glenn if and only if the BOD loosens the purse strings

  10. Here's the complete list of Bomber free agents:

-- Offensive linemen Andre Douglas, Chris Kowalczuk, Steve Morley, Marc Parenteau and Justin Sorensen.

-- Running backs Chad Simpson, Will Ford and Michel-Pierre Pontbriand.

-- Receivers Jade Etienne, Chris Matthews, Akeem Foster and Rory Kohlert.

-- Defensive backs Brandon Stewart, Alex Suber and Dan West.

-- Defensive linemen Kenny Mainor, J.T. Gilmore and Ryan Lucas.

-- Linebackers Pierre-Luc Labbe and Henoc Muamba.

-- Specialists: Mike Renaud (punter) and Chris Cvetkovic (long snapper).

Based on this My revisions are as follows:

    QB:

    Hall

    Ten Imports:

    January

    Denmark

    Wild

    Parker

    Washington

    Mainor (Stewart FA)

    Sears

    Turner

Kelly (or Sims Walker: Gilmore FA)

    Anderson

    Non Imports: 1st six

    H. Muamba (FA or not)

    Greaves

    Watson

    Neufeld

    Thomas (Kolhert FA)

    Pencer (Pontbriand FA)

    Non Imports: 2nd six

    Volny

    Fitzgerald

    Labbe (Etienne FA)

    Foster

    Swiston

    Poblah

    We lose

    Muamba, C

    Edwards (Salary Dump)

    Johnson  (Salary Dump)

    Not Invited Back

    Morley (FA & Salary Dump)

  11. I can see us protecting Dunn over Parker.  Also hard to believe we wouldn't protect someone like Kelly, or Ford. I'd also move Etienne to the first protected group and could see them wanting to protect Labbe in there somewhere.

Actually Jade will be a FA so no need to protect him for the draft .... so maybe protecting Labbe might be better

  12. Which 17 players will the Blue protect and which 3 players will they then lose to Ottawa?

According to the reference below the Bombers (& all CFL teams) can protect

    1. One QB

    2. Ten Imports

    3. Six Non Imports

    4. Later six more non imports

If losing a QB or NI Kicker a club can protect two or one more non imports:

The 2013 Canadian Football League Expansion Draft is a three-round CFL draft scheduled to take place on Monday December 16, 2013.

Rules of the Draft Ottawa will select three players from each of the eight existing teams for a total of 24 players. Ottawa will select eight import players and 16 non-import players with quarterbackskickers and punters eligible within their respective import/non-import categories. Ottawa will be able to select a maximum of two quarterbacks and one kicker/punter, but they may not select any of these three players from the same team. The CFL Commissioner will resolve any dispute related to player eligibility for the Expansion Draft process.     Round one: Import Draft Existing teams may protect one quarterback and ten additional import players, while only being able to select, at maximum, two quarterbacks in the draft. If a quarterback is selected from a team, that team may protect an additional two non-import players in the first round of the Non-Import Draft. If a kicker or punter is selected from a team, that team may protect one additional non-import player in the first round of the Non-Import Draft. Ottawa will select one import player from each existing team in this round.

Round two: Non-Import Draft Existing teams may protect six total non-import players, including the team's one protected quarterback and one protected kicker/punter. If a quarterback was selected in the Import Draft, eight total non-import players may be protected. If a kicker or punter was selected in the Import Draft, seven total non-import players may be protected. If a non-import kicker or punter is to be selected, it must be done in this round and, if so, that team will be able to protect an additional two non-import players in the second round of the Non-Import Draft. Ottawa will select one non-import player from each existing team in this round. Round three: Non-Import Draft Existing teams may protect six more non-import players in addition to those that were protected in the second round. If a kicker or punter was selected in the Non-Import Draft, eight more non-import players may be protected. Ottawa will select one non-import player from each existing team in this round.

    Here is my best guess:

    QB:

    Hall

    Ten Imports:

    January

    Denmark

    Wild

    Parker

    Washington

    Stewart

    Sears

    `Turner

    Gilmore

    Anderson

    Non Imports: 1st six

    H. Muamba (FA or not)

    Greaves

    Watson

    Kolhert

    Neufeld

    Pontbriand

    Non Imports: 2nd six

    Thomas

    Pencer

    Volny

    Fitzgerald

    Etienne

    Foster

    We lose

    Swiston

    Morley

    Johnson

Ottawa has said they will no draft FA's but don't hold them to it

  13. We need to be "responsible" enough to over spend to acquire top notch front office & back office management and the best coaching that money can buy (without being stupid about it).

The new stadium I guess has added about 3-5k more fans to each game: spend enough to keep them coming or we will have problems paying for the new facility

And we have to acquire the best QB whatever $ it takes .... we just cannot afford not to anymore (and yes, pass on 38 year old QBs)

I hope Wade Miller has the authority to do this.
