My GF made a really good point on this situation this morning. She mentioned Romby's impressive tackle at the end of the Ottawa game that saved a TD. Game was over by then but Romby showed great effort and hustle. O'Shea must have loved that, and with the rest of the team not showing much effort, he wanted to set an example that when you show effort like Romby did, you will get rewarded. I was focusing on who is the better WR, but I think my GFs point has a lot to do with this move.

Mental reps.? What does that mean, paying attention? Maybe a little more than that, but basically yes.
-
He never left; he's been on the PR.

Another interesting observation was when they were practicing punting/returns. McGuffie was doing the returns. Woods was just chilling/chatting with the players not involved in punting drills on the sidelines. O'Shea took him aside and they had a chat. They then walked over to the end zone and Woods started taking mental reps on punt returns. O'Shea and Woods kept chatting for a while in the end zone.

Newman signed with the Bombers before Butler signed with Hamilton.

Willy took some reps, but much much less than earlier in the season. I'd estimate he took 20% of the reps today.

I was able to attend today's practice. Here's a few of my observations: Sure is nice to see Ian Wild back practicing. I have a new found respect for him after seeing the team really miss him. Glenn January nowhere to be seen. Jarvis Jones in at left tackle. Paris Cotton working as first team RB. Sam McGuffie doing punt returns. Lots of practicing on the red zone offense. Bryant Turner even got involved but I won't divulge too much on that Troy Stoudermire still in a walking boot. Willy didn't get many reps today. Josh Portis actually got most of the QB reps. Lots, lots of practicing onside kicks. Trainers working with Patrick Neufeld on his calf...he was doing some exercises on his calf. Seems to be a real slow healer. Watson and Washington were practicing fully. Same with Nick Moore who was heavily involved in the offensive plays. And the big news...while I'm not 100% positive because he had a toque on, but it looked like JFG cut his hair.

It was an under the radar, very good signing. Graig Newman was thought of very highly by the Riders organization and was expected to start for them with the loss of Craig Butler. Newman wasn't a "sexy big splash" signing that's gets all the press, but was a very, very good move by Walters. Newman would have started for us this season. I'm not saying that it wasn't a good signing and I agree that Newman would start over Teague. But, he's a no name backup Canadian who wasn't going to start for the Riders even with Butler leaving. To say that he's a big name signing in the same stratosphere of Nick Moore is ridiculous. Wrong. Word out of Riderville is that Newman was going to start with Butler leaving. I agree Newman didn't have the "sexy" big name appeal like Nick Moore, but his impact/role with the team was expected to be significant.

lol that's quite a bit of nudity there!!!

January has been called out quite a bit lately on these forums. I've been saying it's time to replace him for over a year now.

That's Burke's style. Very aggressive.

Exactly. Bryant isn't scaring anyone. It's sad if Bryant is the guy we're relying on to stretch the field.I'm sorry that you can't tell Bryant is the faster of the two. I'm not sure what else to say.He may very well be faster than Kelly. My point is he's done nothing this season to scare another teams defensive coordinator into stretching the defense. It's sad if we're relying on Bryant to stretch the field. If that's the case we're in trouble. Are you suggesting they'll leave him uncovered? You do realize that stretching the field is not a coordinator decision unless the decision is to leave him wide open behind coverage. Romby's speed stretches the defence. Whether or not he gets a ball thrown to him is irrelevant. Romby love him or hate him is one of the best in the league at stretching the field. His lack of production thus far may cause defences to gamble and give him a little room behind coverage but that's a very risky play call on defence. One you are not likely to see. No. I'm saying if Romby was any type of a threat by doing something with his speed, other teams defensive coordinators would have to scheme more for him being on the field.

If that's what he's doing I wish he would have started with Kuale. I think he would have if he had a semi-viable alternative. Hard to say though. We will see how much Kuale hits the field now that Wild is back and know the answer. Also, the pickup of Will Smith today seems to indicate that we are looking for LBers. Kuale is injured so we might never know.

There is nothing clearly about it...you really have no idea if that is true or not. Based on performance this season, it's pretty clear to me. You said it was based on bromance not performance...but you still have no idea if your statement is true or not My point is that based on performance, Kelly should be starting. But Romby is starting because if his bromance with O'Shea.

O'Shea's bromance with Bryant won out over Bellefeuille's bromance with Kelly. Politics clearly at play here.
-
@PentonKirk: @garrettbillan1 O'Shea says they need someone with speed to take the coverage off the top.

The characteristics desired in NFL players don't always translate well to a CFL field. Being a huge strong monster is fine in the NFL, more often than not in the CFL you're just an oversized pylon. Just like Kuale.

WTF??? @DarrinBauming: Aaron Kelly, and not Romby Bryant, will come out of #Bombers lineup this week with the return of slotback Nick Moore.
