2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread
This is the CFL, no one is going to get straight A's across the board. Half the league doesn't make a living wage. Especially when you have the diversity of caloric intake just within the room. The big guys eat a lot different from the skill guys. The meals served are good. Gotta remember that when an OL or DL doesn't get half a cow on a plate, or a receiver doesn't get his kale and blueberry protein shake 6 times a day they hold it against the team.

Meh...depth I would think. He was gassed and got burned badly for like 3 straight games before we went away from him. OC's picked up on it and we were getting torched. IIRC his gassing problem was due to bad asthma. Would be a great guy to have to rotate in though.

A pretty good report card overall. A few minor things to work out but nothing crazy. Players overall like the atmosphere of the team. A few minor wrinkles to work out but nothing that isn't easily and cheaply remedied. I'm not surprised by the grade for management. Walters can be a pretty tough cookie in negs.

It's quite possible they haven't started interviewing yet.

Mileage is pretty low on him though. He was a backup for half of that time.

The difference is Greene could not make most of the throws, and Fajardo can only make some of the throws.

Zach and the receivers were definitely not on the same page in scramble rules at the beginning of the season. He was guessing where they were going to go, and he was guessing wrong more often than not. ZC excels on extending the play but when that happens receivers and QBs have got to be thinking on the same wavelength. Takes a while for that to happen. ZC and KW, KC, and OW just weren't on the same page quite often until around game 7-8. Yea...Wilson and KW ran some great routes and made some big plays, but they were not a result of extending a play. That was our downfall, and Buck really should have given the marching orders to be more conservative until the chemistry was there.

Not last year. A guy like Harris or BLM would have been crushed behind our first 6 games OL. After that....yea probably be a few QBs that would have great seasons with us. Zach got into his own head for a while last year trying to do too much. If he chucks and ducks into the third row 8-10 times more last year instead of forcing things we probably win a couple of those early season losses. I know that sounds Matt Nichols like, but when you have our defence, all you gotta do is protect the ball and not give the game away.

Make Doman look like a spend thrift. 20-0 should be the goal.

A ton of that falls on our OL, especially early in the year, and our rotating door of rookie receivers. He got better as the season went on as the OL gelled and the new receivers worked out the kinks.

Blow the wad, screw the SMS, do what it takes. Keep our good players, be active in FA this year, bring in blue chip recruits. This is our all in year.

Yea...could happen. With the plethora of good backups on the market this year, I would hope KW is going to grab us one of them. Football championships are always a collective effort. No doubt about that. However, some QBs tend to be able to lead their teams to more of them than others even if the stats don't necessarily show it. Sometimes its the timeliness of a play, for instance, or just a few minutes of greatness that make the difference between a VA and a ZC. Love him or hate him, I would take Fajardo as our back up for that reason. He sucks as a QB, but occasionally he gets hot and as Grey Cup 23 taught us he can sometimes get hot at exactly the right time. As a starter I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole, but coming in off the bench he's a guy that might just win you the game if your starter goes down. All you ask from a backup.

Our guy has cup rings. VA...not so much. If/when VA puts those on his resume he can likely get ZC money. Teams don't pay 600-700k unless MOPs and GCs are on your resume.

Definitely. Grey Cup 25.

Definitely not an overpay, but not exactly a discount either. Pretty fair deal for both sides imo.

I don't care when the Bombers get it done this offseason....just get it done.

It all depends on how much Prime is willing to pay. I doubt that it would be huge revenue streams for them or the CFL. Much needed exposure though.

What does publically have to do with anything related to his leadership in the dressing room? I agree. FIFO is well entrenched and isn't slipping one iota. Young guys will need to step up, and they will as they become the veterans. It isn't a problem. We have problems...don't get me wrong...but FIFO declining isn't one of them.

Bryant is a guy that leads by example. He may not say much apparently, but he doesn't have to. There is some kind of notion that in order to be a great leader one had to be vocal. FALSE narrative. Bryant is a locker room leader through and through. He lives FIFO, sets the example, and has the respect in the room without saying anything that other players will follow. 66 doesn't have to say a damn word in order to lead.

You don't realistically know anything about what the locker room culture is compared to 2019 or 21. None of us do. Nor do any of us know who the leaders are in that room. Your statement is 100% speculation. True...and neither does the side that says it's gone. I can only go by what the players are still saying about it. I haven't heard any player even remotely suggesting that the culture is different. You don't know that.

Tell me who they have bypassed? There are guys that most certainly SHOULD be bypassed prior to even signing them. I am sure we have done a lot of that....as has every team except teams devoid of any locker room culture like the Riders.

FIFO is alive and well and extends far beyond WJ. It is nonsense to suggest otherwise. We still have a ton of vets on O and D to carry that banner.

What exactly are you hoping for? Every player to be a stud? It doesn't happen EVER. To get a couple quality starters a year through recruitment is very good recruitment. To get 2 quality starters and another 2-3 players that are showing that they have quality starter potential is even better. 1000 yard receiver, shut down DB, and a productive NAT rookie receiver is a pretty darn good year. Add Wheatfall, Ayers, and Woods to that mix (all players that flashed a high ceiling) and I really have no idea what you are complaining about.

The blame for the Grey Cup lands squarely on the players who shat the bed. That being said, Pierce's play calling was very poor. Whether we went with Collaros, Wilson, or Dolegala we were going to have to heavily rely on the run. We didn't and that put our offence in a situation where our offence was reckless with the ball. It was a lack of trust by our OC in our OL's ability to play bully ball. That being said, I don't think either Buck or Ted left with any kind of axe to grind against fans, media, or the organization. Both men left for excellent opportunities.
