Elliot also won player of the week against Montreal, going 17/25 for 335 yards and 3 touchdowns.
My apologizes, forgot the Dinwiddie game and Elliot's one good game versus Hamilton in 2012 (followed by an OK one versus B.C. and stinkers versus the Riders (2) and Calgary).
oh **** off....Dinwiddie came in and won vs Calgary in 2009, Joey Elliot was outstanding when he first came in for Buck in 2011 (until he got hurt, too...) It really hasn't been that long....Given that the last time, Winnipeg had a young QB come in and surprise was Troy Copp in 1998, I think we are due.

My era also. Idolized Keon, loved Ron Ellis, and later Henderson and Ullman when they came over in the red wing trade. Seems like yesterday. Left the leaf camp when WHA arrived in town.last time I was a Leafs fan, Jacques Plante & Bernie Parent were in net, Rick Ley & Mike Pelyk were on defense & Davey Keon was centre.

I don't get this "holding onto the football too long because he's getting beat up" routine. It makes absolutely no sense. If that was me or anybody else, They'd be throwing the football on the first step of a 3 step drop. Or 3rd on a 5 to get rid of the ball faster just so as not to get hit anymore. They wouldn't be holding onto the football. Why would Willy hold onto the football so long? To get beat up even more?? Hardly. If qbs are under duress they don't hold onto the football even longer to get hit even more. Truth was his receivers weren't getting open or weren't getting to where they should be. This isn't on Willy, it was the BC Lions linebackers & defensive backfield taking away our passing game. We never adjusted underneath to get rid of the football faster as the game went on. Where were the quick passes??? It was all intermediate 15-25 yard routes that MB was calling. He did little to help his qb.That's on Bellefeuille not Willy.
Ok iso - can you try to explain the last play then please? It was a hail mary if you recall, or at least, it should have been. Now, I was watching on TV, I wasn't at the game, so it is possible (but highly improbable) that all his receivers were tackled at the line of scrimmage.
A Hail Mary is the easist throw in football to make. The QB stands back, counts to 3 or 4 than throws to a pre-determined spot and hope for one of two things - a Miracle Catch or a PI call.
He stood there for about 4 second, then ran laterally to his left which means he can't throw, then he gets sacked. You can't defend that play iso, it's undefendable. All Willy had to do was throw the ball, and he didn't. That's on him 100%, and there were other times he receivers were open, He can't see them iso - Marve and Brohm play with the same players - they had no issues did they?
Go back and look at the play if you can. At exactly 2.0 seconds after the snap Willy is turning to run to his left because penetration from BC is coming first from the right. If he stood in the pocket or turned to his right he would have been sacked immediately. If he threw the ball at that point, at 2.0 seconds, it's unlikely his receivers would have travelled 50 to 60 yards and be in any position in the end zone. As you note, a QB is going to have to be able to count to st least 3 or 4. He had no choice but to escape to his left to try and extend the play. I get that you are frustrated with losing, and Willy has become a scapegoat of sorts, and your entitled to your opinion, but in this case it does not fit the facts.

Honestly, we should trade Watson for a high draft pick.
An unpopular opinion around here but I agree. Watson doesn't have very much time left, between his constant injuries and decently high salary I don't think he'll be here for more than another year or two. IF we could get a second rounder and a backup Canadian receiver for him, I'd pull the trigger on a Watson deal.
A desperate team like Ottawa with a foolish GM might be willing to overpay for him.
This makes no sense. I understand being frustrated that a player has been injured, but why would we make a deal that almost certainly makes this team worse?
I think you might be overestimating the ease in which quality Canadian receivers can be found. Wildly overestimating.
Here's a trivia question for you - of all the receivers drafted in the last two drafts, who has caught the most yardage (edit: this season)?
answer - Carl Fitzgerald, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 38 yards.

He's the exact same size as Elimimian, so size alone will not be his problem.I know he's a pretty good player but is he big enough to avoid being smothered on every running play?

You do know Willy runs a 4.9 40 time right? Unless he has nobody with at least 15 yards of him like he did against Montreal on that final drive, defenders are going to close on Willy quick. He is not a running quarterback, and him trying to be something he's not would be a significant detriment to the team. I'm amazed at how some people talk like they actually know what they are watching, or what they are asking of a given player given their skill set.
Reilly is listed as having run a 4.92. He's not as good as Reilly as a running QB, but its not just a speed issue IMO.

GCn is right, there probably isn't a mutual interest because of scheme.
I tend to agree but I'm going to ask anyways, What the hell type of scheme are we running when we have no interest in Laurent or Hickman? Don't you normally want the best players who are available and you make it work? If we aren't signing guys based on schemes we are setting ourself up for failure. Ratio breaking tackle in Laurent, pass cuz he doesn't fit the scheme? Hickman, i'm not sure what you'd get with him, he's been gone a while but to pass on him just because of scheme? Seems ridiculous.
How many guys are we going to not be interested in due to scheme?
Much as we would have liked to have Laurent here and will undoubtedly never hear the end of it from some guys, Laurent was a free agent and not terribly likely to come here regardless of scheme. In my opinion, Winnipeg would have been last on his list of teams to play for.
As for the DL, they will be expected to attack from multiple angles, overload sides, drop into coverage on occasion and disguise blitzes. As I understand our defense that is. To do any of this they will have to be fast and dynamic. I don't know how well Peach is suited to this. Vega and Turner would seem ideal. Thomas is Canadian, but if he can also be relatively fast with this feet, that's a big step.
If we were living in 2011 and looking for someone to replace Doug Brown in a 4-3 Greg Marshall defence, Laurent would be the best choice I could think of. Sticking him in this defence would likely be a disaster. He would not be able to do anything required of him.
When I look at the combine numbers for Jake Thomas versus Laurent, they are virtually identical for 10,20 and 40 yard dashes, even though Laurent is/was about 45 lbs heavier. I have to admit I have not seen Laurent play much recently, and these numbers are from 2011, but for those of you that are more familiar with his recent play, is he really less mobile, or just bigger? His draft profile talks about him having great mobility for a big man.

Iso, my memory of Brule was the same, plodding returns of 2 to 3 yards, and then burried under a pile of bodies and a cloud of dust. But CFLapedia suggests differently... who would have thought that he averaged over 7 yards per return with no blocking? And over 30 yards on kickoff returns? Thats not my memory of him, but it looks like he may have had a couple of long ones. He also had 9 interceptions in 1970, which is odd, since I don't remember him as much of a ball hawk, but I was in my early teens at the time.

Really enjoyed this, amazing how much more detailed and analytic it is compared to what I am used to reading in FP and sun. Particularly appreciated the comments on the specific db positions, and why some command a certain skill set, whereas others do not.

O'Shea is familiar with McCune, and if he's not signing him, there's probably a good reason. I don't know if he doesn't want to come here, is asking more than he's worth (no one else has signed him either) , or they're just in the process of working out some minor contract details, but on this one, I'm giving bombers the benefit of the doubt. Who knows, maybe he's saving the cap space for Ted Laurent or Glenn. Think positively!Why are we losing out on so many players that could fill holes & make us competitive (like McCune if he signs elsewhere) when we are supposedly flush with money? Are we cheaping out again? Other teams can sign these players but we can't. It's always about the money, it seems. We give a "final offer" & sit back & someone signs a player or a coach we want right in front of our frigging noses. I'm beginning to think things haven't changed & the excuses will be starting real soon. Well, they already have... What a crappy off season.

1. What o-lineman in this years draft do you think would most improve our line over the next 3 years, and not be lost to the NFL?

I am no fan of Joe Mack, but he inherited a situation where we were already without a lot of picks. We ended up having no first and second in 2009, no first and third in 2010, and no second in 2011), largely due to previous GMs. His draft record is not stellar, but he had far less picks to work with than other GMs.
