  1. Thoughts:

Traffic plan needs work. Our blue n gold express bus was full after the first 2 out of 6 planned stops. Good job getting us out quick after the game though.

I liked Wendell Brown, Marty Markett, and Ryan Lucas on defence. Everyone else sucked royally. Also Anthony Woodson is our second best running back and making a push for number one since Simpson decided it would be a good idea to gain 10 pounds so he could run slower and get less yards per rush. Odd decision but he's the pro I guess?

Offence looked terrible. Pierce goes 0/5 are you kidding me? Maybe they should give some first team reps to their first team qb in practice... Just a thought.

Concessions were unbearably slow. True North pays people to run their concessions, Bombers have volunteers (i.e. seniors from some ridiculous club) running the concessions. Seriously this guy couldn't even read the numbers on the cash register. It was bad. Missed 12 minutes of the third quarter waiting in line... Nice tv's on the columns at least.

Massey looked good returning. Renaud punted 6 out of 8 punts and looked good. Hutchison and Cameron got the other two. So much for evaluation? The job is Renaud's. Palardy looked like Palardy.... Misses ugly ones sometimes but will otherwise do an adequate job... Not that it matters since no one is competing with him for the job.

Overall I thought the team looked awful. Poorly prepared and completely disorganized. The atmosphere sucked because nobody cared and everyone stays in the concourse rather than sitting in their seats. The guy on the mic was AWFUL, oh man did he ever suck... See ya later pal, you win 0 dollars and a lifetime of shame.

I thought Clement looked like he was the better QB out of Hall and himself. Hall looked better in camp but Clement is far more mobile and seemingly just as accurate as Hall when the lights come on. Hall had a LOT of chances to do something and he never did.

Etienne was our leading receiver with 2 catches for 31 yards.

  2. A 2009 review published in the American Journal of Addiction concluded that driving high is likely less dangerous than driving drunk, and a recent investigation by the Institue for the Study of Labor found that the legalization of medical marijuana in the United States has been linked to a dramatic decrease in traffic fatalities. That said, a study published last year in the British Medical Journal concluded that smoking pot within few hours of driving is still associated with a nearly two-fold risk of being involved in a serious car crash

  4. I think it's pretty clear that the biggest problem with this is not telling his team that he had just been booked on pot possession and given a court date that fell in the middle of training camp. How ridiculous of Hefney to not say anything.

I'm not so sure he actually has to go to court.  Kirk Penton uploaded a picture of the police report and the last line is "Case closed by issuance of ticket."  That doesn't sound like he's going to have to deal with this any further.

  5. With a few exceptions, the names of baseball teams have never seemed very satisfactory to me.  Three of them, the Orioles, the Cardinals and the Blue Jays, are named after birds.  Why, for goodness sake?  Are there more cardinals in St. Louis than in Baltimore?    The St. Louis football team was also called the Cardinals, which I'm sure sports editors found inexcusable.  It's not even short.

When baseball was first organized, two of the teams named themselves after the colour of their socks, the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox.  I suppose you've got to name a team something.

The thing that bothers me the most about the team names in all areas of sport is their inconsistency.  What sense does it make to have the Orioles playing the Tigers?  The symbolism is all wrong.  You just can't visualize an animal like a tiger playing with a bird like an oriole.  Neither are the Pirates apt to have played with the Indians, and I can't imagine the Astros playing with the Braves either.  These are apples playing with oranges.

Naming a team is like naming a child, I suppose.  Once you've done it, the name and personality of the child or the team take on each other's qualities and become indistinguishable.  That's what allows any of us to get to like someone whose name we never cared for.  The name is dominated by the personality so that the name takes on a new meaning of its own for us.

  6. Here's the story:

Hefney, 28, and another passenger were pulled over by Rock Hill police at 1:20 a.m. after being observed traveling 47 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer smelled marijuana when Hefney rolled down the window of his white Ford F-150, the report said. The officer searched both occupants and didn’t find marijuana, but a search of the truck discovered 6.2 grams of marijuana in the center console.

Hefney, who has played for the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers the last four years, was issued a ticket for first offense marijuana possession. His court date will be June 19 at 1 p.m., according to a court official.

Sounds like it's not a big deal.  And the CFL drug policy does not mention marijuana.

So of course this is going to blow up like crazy.
