  1. Injuries happen. MD broke his foot. I somehow doubt it has any relation to his previous injury.. Last time I checked, bones knitted more solid then before the injury..

Pencer was drafted knowing his shoulders would probably need work (I thought anyway) and it wasn't major repair, it was cleaning and scoping..

Not sure why Jade was mentioned in this post.. he has been healthy the entire time he has been a bomber, no?

Stephan, what was his previous injuries prior to hurting himself on ST last season?

regardless, I think this is being blown waaaaay outta proportion..

  2. The anti-DB97 sentiments in this thread are laughable. He's one of the greatest Bombers of all time, period. He's everything a CFLer should be. Canadian, Elite-level talent, lived in Wpg year round and contributed countless hours in the community. One of the greatest CFLers of all time, bar none. Ridiculous to think he won't be considered Top 5 in 30 years...ridiculous.

I'm skimming back through the comments... seems more like 'pro-other guys' than 'anti-DB97' but that's just me. DB97 was stellar, if Cup-less. From where I sit, Stegall gets the nod because of all the records he set, despite not winning a Cup. Bud Grant also seems like a pretty good choice, if a Coach were to be featured.

At this point, it doesn't really matter, now does it? Dough Brown deserves to be honored, no matter what.

very hard not to agree with this. While Walby probably should have got a nod, I can't fault the fans and the team for picking Dougie.

  3. Walls, while I thought he was a great player while here.. I wonder how he would stack up to the DEs we have seen in the last few seasons.. Hall, Mainor, Hunt, etc.. (I don't count O'dell as he wasn't one of our finds)

I do miss Canada though, seriously, was there a better last name donned on a jersey in the CFL? :D

I'd still take Walls over Mainor but Hunt and Hall are studs for sure.

Yea very true.. I'm still not totally sold on Mainor as an every down DE..

  4. It seems like Creehan is one of those special coaches who know how to yell at the right times and not come across as a ranting asshat. Players who have played for him have only glowing reports and have said they loved to play for him... He manages to get the max out of his players..

    except Rey Williams

meh.. you can't please everyone every day lol. I thought he was a bit of a locker room cancer anyway..

  5. I can think of about 6 or 7 people I'd pick before Doug Brown, honestly.

Milt, Ploen, Walby, Poplawski, Cal Murphy, Tyrone Jones, Richard Harris, Cameron ...

    ok, 8.

While I don't disagree with you.. Brown is a recognizable face at this point.. alot of new fans won't know who Richard Harris was or Tyrone Jones.. You have to consider all the angles..

and its not like Brown was some rag player who doesn't deserve the recognition.. He was arguably 1-2 of the best interior defensive line men (and canadian to boot) that we have seen...

I have to be honest, I just don't really care for Doug Brown. lol

lol but you have to respect what he did bring to the table.

  6. No way to use Chrome or Firefox or to even modify my browser, part of the problem for working for the Gov't..... everything is years behind current tech and this is why OB works perfectly from my computers at work

Now that I'm home things look nice, naturally the logo at top as mentioned around here needs an update.

I think the site needs more Gold and maybe a slight bit more cowbell :D

So far so good and as I pm'd Jimmy Fresco I wouldn't mind a shoutbox being added at the top. I'm sure as the season goes on the site will grow and flesh out. It would be neat if the site could be even more then just a message board....

och, aye.. government is also notorious for locking down your computer to the bare minimum.. I'm surprised you can actually browse off their network.. and if this board could evolve into more then just a bunch of bomber junkies throwing posts around, the better :)

  8. So apparently, according to what I heard, Carmon asked for his release.

well thats a shame.. too bad, thought he had some solid potential.. was he better then Douglas or January or would he have been strictly depth?

I think they were bringing in imports to push both January and Douglas. Douglas is coming off a lost season - who knows where he's at physically (he was also never a shut down tackle to begin with). And the most I can say for January is that his play dramatically improved over the course of last season .. but he is, at best, an average tackle .. unfortunately he is also the most reliable (and definitely most seasoned) one we have on our roster at the moment.

true on both counts. Knowing Douglas was hurt and possibly not coming back to form (which, your right, wasn't ever truly stellar) and January is getting older, I can't see why Carmon wouldn't want to stick around and compete.. I thought Douglas was leagues ahead of the other guys we had at camp..

Or, I suppose its plausible Mack and co told him we were going non-imp at one tackle, leaving only one spot for a camp battle..

  9. Creehan is intense. Even yesterday when I was checking out every aspect of the stadium and completely ignoring what was going on one the field I could still hear him barking.

This *could* be good , hopefully he keeps the vets in check and keeps them in place. I hope its just not loud shouting that goes ignored like back with Kelly....

It seems like Creehan is one of those special coaches who know how to yell at the right times and not come across as a ranting asshat. Players who have played for him have only glowing reports and have said they loved to play for him... He manages to get the max out of his players..

  10. Hey, but Taman signed Tom Canada, so that means everything. :D

Signed and resigned. Meanwhile, Gavin Walls was three times the player over on the strong side.

Walls, while I thought he was a great player while here.. I wonder how he would stack up to the DEs we have seen in the last few seasons.. Hall, Mainor, Hunt, etc.. (I don't count O'dell as he wasn't one of our finds)

  11. Original Story Here

Here are a couple of comments about Fitzgerald (and more specifically how Crowton is aware and adapting to having to protect Pierce - or any of our QBs - this season):

Crowton's made some major changes to the playbook to try and protect QB Buck Pierce and having a fullback that can handle defensive linemen in pass protection is key.

"We need a guy that can be physical and stand up to D-linemen coming his way," said Crowton. "We're trying to develop him. He's got a big 'ol body and he's physical. We want competition at the position. If he can get there, great. If not, he's going to push the others.

"He reminds me of Dennis Pitta from the Baltimore Ravens, who I had at BYU. He was a receiver and then I fattened him up and moved him inside and now he's doing great in the NFL. Daniel Coats (Denver Broncos) and Ed Dickson did the same thing in Baltimore. He's not going to be a running fullback but a guy that can block the perimeter and still take part in the passing game. Carl should give us some options with his size, his ability to run routes and his hands. He's going to hit people and that's what got him here more than anything else.

I also think that a guy of his size, if he uses his body right, can be a huge asset in terms of creating mismatches down the seam. Huge physical target that *should* be able to take advantage of the smaller DBs / LBs across the league.

with offenses gearing away from the run game and thus defenses turning into smaller, more agile DBs and OLBs, I agree.. I think Fitz (if he catches on quickly) can become a great weapon on the goal line and for short stuff with height and size. Hopefully he is strong on the ball as well and can fight off the smallish defenders.. I always find it funny how the CFL offenses/defenses always keep evolving from run heavy to pass heavy and ditto defenses, bigger LBs and better run support DBS then smaller LBS and quicker DBs.. Wonder when run heavy will become the norm again..

  12. They say the same thing every year. I'll believe it when I see it, but he's right. They need to be better all around, so here's hoping...

yea, while true.. It does seem like Burke is making sure the players and us fans know he is serious about it. That and the fact they did stink as a collective last season, coupled with the pile of talented DBs in camp should hopefully shake up any players who think they can coast back into the starting line.

  13. awesome to see he user list grow, hopefully it continues and those of us willing to, will have 3 sites to keep us all entertained all day :D

I'll say this: thanks for jumping on board.

I know that, as a team, we want to provide our community with great content and a constructive place to talk all things Bombers.

glad to be here.. Great group of guys and should be some awesome discussions..
