  1. Yes, on that second and 3, I would have left Collaros in and called a "regular" play, one with a couple of options. Putting all the big guys in and giving Streveler no option other than try to find a hole to whatever side the play called for. (Can he audible to change it? Is he even allowed that?) And, with his not totally healed body, he hasn't looked good on these short yardage plays. Wilson, imo, has looked better (more yards gained per attempt, I think). So if a play like that is the (dumb)call, get in your better player for that situation. It still ticks me off.
  2. Yep, it is disappointing. I would have considered opening the bank (darn any penalties) for another FA or two or different FAs. I have to wonder what Miller/Walters were thinking. (The extension for Collaros is one of many head-scratchers.) Having said that, I believe they'll be playoff bound (probably without a home game) and if the D continues to grow and the currently cringe worthy O can at least become more consistent, we have a shot.
  3. I have to admit that I was fit to be tied while watching the second half last night. Fortunately, I was watching with my 8 year-old grandson and 5 year-old granddaughter and some Lego blocks so I kept it under control. I might have auggested that the coaches should be fired but in a nice way, sort of. Anyway, after a sleep, I think that things are shaping up with the D and with the injuries to the DBs in particular, the team will be forced into bringing in some bodies that may develop. Younger seems competent enough although I didn't like his schemes towards the end of the game. Special teams are coming along pretty well, too, that hiccup of a TD return against them excepted. They still take the odd unnecessary penalty though. I like Vaval and I'm beginning to appreciate Sheehan. Sergio, well, he's no Medlock but he's Sergio so that's quite alright. As for the offence, I'm not as positive about them. I hope that Hogan's Zero can figure it out (soon) but I'm not holding my breath. Collaros surprised me with that run to set up the FG so perhaps a few more roll-out plays should be called for, although not too many of those where he has to throw across his body. I'm just hoping for a competent O but I'm concerned that the go-to-guy for the long ones is Demski. I'm hoping for them to make the playoffs and since this is rhe CFL where anything can happen...... Go Bombers Go!
  4. To be frank, I'm not an Xs and Os guy but I agree that they were too passive.
  5. In spite of Crum and Ottawa's O looking compent towards the end and our Defence looking gassed, I thought our D had a decent outing. The better communication, the insertion of a couple of taller guys, although rookies, in the secondary, and better D-line play with greater rotation gives me hope for the future. I liked Allen's play and I think that Vaval can be a solid DB, too. Schmekel was a revelation yesterday. (I watched him closely during the Stamps game, in which he played well, too.) The guy is enthusiastic and has a motor. I didn't like some of Younger's play calling in the 4th though. Too often I saw 3 guys on the line and 9 off by 5-10 yards. Souter said that they were daring Ottawa to run but I saw Ottawa saying....okay, we can run but we can also pass. And, they took advantage of it. Our offence, well, that's for another posting.
  6. I logged off after the first half but I came back after that horrible play calling on the Bombers' first possession. And, since Collaros doesn't have a rifle for an arm, why have him roll out to his left and then, if he throws, will have to throw actoss his body?
  7. I'm more annoyed that O'Shea didn't challenge it. Assuming it was challengeable.
  8. How does TSN get away with not explaining that no yards flag?
  9. How does that ref call no yards from where he was?
  10. Back to the PI call. It didn't look like PI and it looked uncatchable anyway
  11. I noticed him whiff on that play. He's terrible. However, I wasnt crazy about that play call either.
  12. That name calling definitely crossed the line. Good that you put him in his place. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/2013/04/02/how-heroin-felled-a-hero An old article a couple of years before his death (Hopefully, there's no paywall.) A really sad story and a waste of a great talent. I had forgotten about Brown so I checked out his stats with the Bombers. It looks like he played 10 games in '73 and while not Herron-like was a solid player.
  13. You make too much sense. He's most likely not the future but given the short yardage plays they're running, he's a better option than Streveler. It cost us big time yesterday on that 3rd down gamble at around the Stamps' 10 yd line when Streveler was stuffed. TSN turning point IMO.
  14. I hadn't thought of it that way but you may be on to something. To me our offense looks like kindergarten versus high school for most other teams. Being at yesterday's game, I saw the complexity of the Stamps' routes versus the elementary routes of the Bombers. And, the big thing about the CFL is that it's a passing league. I think Oliveira is pretty good but to win the big one....
  15. No sympathy from me. The guy was very good but there's a reason his nickname was Smack Heroin.
  16. I'm ok with Sergio. Besides, he came over to chat with my grandson yesterday. He may not be a Shaun White as far as consistency goes but I'd take him everyday over him and the others.
  17. I counted nine Canucks "starting" according to the depth chart. If I recall correctly, that's more than required and we've been doing this for years. Well, it doesn't appear to be working this year. Why the coaching staff doesn't even attempt to take advantage of the existing rules is very frustrating for me as a fan.
  18. Based on my watching all of the Bomber games this season, I'm a bit perplexed as to why Wilson is not running the 3rd and short offence. Sure Streveler has been successful since he has been back, sort of. I think that he's missed maybe two including that big one yesterday. When Wilson was handling those duties while Streveler was out, he looked good to me, a very strong push. Streveler, to my eye, does not have the leg push he had before (still injury related?) Another OC mistake, IMO.
  19. I winced every time I saw Thomas and Schmekel(?) together in the middle of the D-line. Putting them out together could be ruled a coaching dereliction of duty.
  20. I think that many on this forum would agree that Hogan, even giving him the "rookie benefit of the doubt", feel that he should be relieved of OC duties. I realize that Jackson has a checkered record but given his experience and the fact that he was a QB, I'd be leaning toward him as a replacement at least for the duration of the season.
  21. A view from the cheap seats at McMahon. Actually the cheap seats turned into pretty good ones at the 40 yard line. (lots of empty seats to move to): A very promising start was followed by a disheartening finish. I didn't see much in the way of adjustments by the Bombers coaching staff. Calgary's staff made enough to win the game. How much rope does Hogan have? Officiating left a lot to be desired. The Bombers were a little undisciplined at times (especially special teams) but I thought the stripes were wearing red. When Demski is the go to guy for long passes, we are in trouble! Mitchell looks smaller than his roster height listing. Even Wheatfall looks like a waif out there. Receivers look tiny and slow. DBs looked tiny and slow beside the Stamps receivers. Wait a minute, they were hardly beside the Stamps receivers. The wind was a factor in the 4th quarter so the Bombers' tall foreheads got that decision right and it almost worked. There's more to be said but it was very discouraging. Third place.....maybe. Is a crossover playoff spot a possibility? I don't think there'll be a home playoff game so there will be revenue missed. Maybe it'll be a wakeup call for Miller and he'll start the ball rolling on making changes.
  22. When Demski is our only long ball threat. WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE!
