Call it what you want … you need to move on from Collaros
wbbfan replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I wouldn’t be mad at it. Though I think it’d cost us too much talent wise to pay rourke what he’d expect. Then the nfl watch would be on every off season too. A month out from the gc (honestly feels like more) and I’m still firmly in the time to move on from collaros boat. Though I think the only viable option would be brown + strevy. -
I think the guys on that verge will be Augustine, Bailey, vet dbs, Thomas, and sadly woli. He just had a career year and is coming into his prime, but I don’t think woli plays till he’s old by wr standards. 6 seasons for him already, prett my crazy. Food for thought, I demskis 5th season of regular play he had 654 yards and 4 tds. Woli had 668 and 6tds. Demskis two best seasons in his first 6 are very comparable to wolis too. 654/772 with 10/6 vs 650/668 5/6. If woli doesn’t retire, over the next two years we likely have the best 1 2 punch of ni WRs in the league. Who also happen to be very versatile and blocking machines. but on topic, if we move on from Augustine for a rookie ni or imp, plus move on from 1 vet db or Bailey we easily keep Brady lawler and schoen. As much as I love Bailey, the majority of his touches going to woli, Demski, lawler, schoen, and Brady doesn’t make us any worse it probably makes us a little better. His blocking and leadership would suck to lose. But it’s hard to pay the 6th offensive option 100k and give em enough touches to be content.

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
wbbfan replied to WinnipegGordo's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Tbh I don’t hate going wr at the top of the draft. Far less busts in top 5 WRs than QBs imo. Though I think the best value picks in the top 5 of the nfl draft tend to be defensive players. Teams always look for that one guy who will change their franchise with that pick, but it almost never works out. What bad teams really need most to turn it around is a bunch of picks in the first 3 rounds and to hit a lot of value with those picks. Harrison isn’t going to change a franchise, but I do think he will be a star. If you are in that top range though you need a lot. And QBs/wrs need you to have a lot to really shine. Trade down and draft ol/D all day. Just like up here with the bombers, line play wins games. -

You can make an active roster, not gonna start though. That can happen but you’re talking at best once a generation. A lot of former higher picks become career back ups but many don’t get much of sniff again they provide an illusion of qb depth. Isn’t Harrison staying in for a ridiculous nil deal or was that a rumour? -
For what we have on the roster inside right now, I’d agree. Now I think it’s possible we’d benefit from flipping hardrick and gray, but that’s an awful big risk. Gray is a fantastic guy as the 6th. Honestly most guys took turns being the worst. No easy one guy was the problem. Though kolo has never been a starter.

For me, if I was in his shoes, I’d prize playing over any thing right now. Yes he’s young and he could kick around for untold years cashing millions in pr and the odd ar cheque. But, he has next to no chance at actually playing. Guys like flutie and Garcia went down with years of dominance. Not a partial year that ended in disappointment. I would legit play 2-3 years in the cfl if I was him then go south, but with a big guarantee and bonus. He’s in a rare situation where his window is soo big he can aim for more than clipboard and coffee boy. Look at strevy and mbt. Crazy amounts of pr time camp invites work outs etc. plenty of money made from the nfl. Never a shot at meaningful time as qb1. Rourke could spend the whole rest of his career down south. And not get a sniff of being no1. It’s very easy to fall into that good enough to be here not good enough to start position as a qb. -
2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News

He was certainly one of the biggest jones guys, though they’ve been a part since jones first left the riders. But he wasn’t a rival or hc candidate at that point. -

They always think that all premium fas will want to go to them lol. Shivers is a good get for edm. I wonder if that’s painting on the wall for jones. He usually runs his own d. Doesn’t usually have legit future hc candidates at co. -
It’s much easier to look good at guard, he didn’t stand out but wasn’t frequently turn styling. Idk how much tread is left on his tire, but I’m also not sure how much Bryant and hardrick have left either. Chances all 3 have a full healthy season by regular ol starter standards is probably 0. It’s a tough spot. Moving on from old guys is not easy. And I fear we just won’t unless they retire. Leading to another step back in pass pro. Eli was really our best ol in the back half of last year, which is sad bad kind of scary. Kola isn’t starter quality, gray struggles too much in pass pro at guard, the other 3 have about 800 million games combined.

100% of cfl players have this feeling/goal when they arrive. I’m not gonna hate some one for possibly, wording it sub optimally. Like you said, it was taken out of context. I hated the rourke hype train. It was soo obnoxious, likely not nearly as much as bomber news has been to the league for the past 4 seasons. Brady hasn’t gotten 1% of the hype rourke did and he deserves atleast 75-80%. Lumsden got more national coverage. He wasn’t the mop, and I’m not sold on him being the next flutie/moon etc. but he is a damn good young qb and an ni. If we had him locked up on a long term deal I’d be pretty happy. -

Does he have to pay both income taxes? No doubt some one would give rourke 750k -
Probably trying to fit all the 0s on a contract extension for Damien jackson to match mos’. Could’ve also been biting his finger nails over the rumor that had Harris going to coach RBs in Regina. Or trying to make sure that he had enough cushion in stock so next year hall and the dbs can play a full 100 yards off the other teams WRs. Could be stocking up on guitar strings for wolis one man band. Or getting a million litres of hatorade ready for the cfl media to fuel their tears. Seeing if he can find/buy enough coal for the stockings of guys like ball, farhan, Chris jones, and a bunch of posters on rf.

Scored a 10/50. Think he’s in a big tie for like 5th or 6th lowest all time. Tee Martin had an 11. QBs average like 24, Johnny manziel put up 33. To be fair touch and accuracy were not in his game either. Like all tests it’s not by any means the be all and end all. But few QBs have low wonderlics and succeed. Fast decision making is key. Tbh idc in the least what he does now. One day (not when a part of the riders though) raise his number and move on. Though the irony of how much rider fans harped about the ped test with Harris if he goes there that is hilarious. -

I think they did the best they could last fa period. If I was them id be kicking down the door on guys like brown and elite blue chip us prospect QBs. They could have a dynasty if they strike gold at qb. How many QBs in the league would the ALs have lost with I wonder. I think legit they would’ve lost with Harris. Vaj is a coin toss to throw 4 tds or turn it over 5 times. Would they have lost with ford at qb? Idk that’s tough imo. Masoli, Kelly, brown, collaros, I think they all win with. They did a great job of putting them self in the best position to win with out a dominant culture or qb. Hats off to them. -
I think if he gets it, and he’s the only back in the league with the potential to get that value it will be due as much to his viral marketability, and his pass port. How many Canadians are legit mop candidates and that you can lock up long term. A team like bc could market him in a big way to a younger demographic and grow a lot. Salary cap wise that much into a rb is crippling for sure. Though a lot of teams have wasted a lot of money on 2 meh RBs lately. I’d rather sign one guy like Brady and bring in a base contract guy for similar combined money. but two cheap RBs does make the most sense. Truth. The nfl fa backs literally had a meeting in the off season trying to organize this exact thing. We can keep both and lawler, if we go cheap at back up rb, like ni rookie deal, or if we go cheap at back up qb. We could literally hand Brady 50k more salary from Augustine’s check and get a rookie ni and be in the same situation as last year. We could also say good bye to Bailey for a rookie and save a chunk. I think that happens long before schoen is given up.
-
I never underestimate how much cfl teams will over pay free agents. Not since we’ve seen 700k mike Reilly, 300k WRs etc. the corpse of Harris got 145/160 last year and stanback got 160/170. The Argos also paid 111/123 to ouellette. So they paid a total of 256/283 to 2 RBs. They could give Brady 215 and save money. Crazy football league. If rourke was available I wouldn’t be surprised if some one offered him a mil or some thing ridiculous. Mtl also paid 95/117 to antwi for 255/287. Hamilton paid butler/ste a combined 220/251. When did cfl teams start paying soo much for two RBs? This is crazy. 191/234 for Brady and Augustine is cheaper than half the league. I think so too. He can catch he actually played some wr at what was it ucla? Before he transferred to nd. I mean I would sign like some big athlete ni who could roster as a qb and maybe do short yardage or some thing, hold, snap, kick cover etc. shoot you could sign a Canadian basketball player from college whose Agudosi size and use em for all kinds of things.
-
Yep if some one gives him 200k plus I’ll be happy for him and all. With our scheme and ol we could plug nearly any import rb in and get 1200+ yards with ease. It’d be very easy to find a similar power back but with way better top end speed who would break a lot more huge runs. I love Brady and I hope he stays on a reasonable contract. But what are the chances he matches last year or improves on it?
-
Varies guy to guy. We don’t often have end up with our NL QBs here. The dl and dbs pretty high chance. I’d say very good chance we see two or more just of that list in this camp. Hart is gonna be 28 next year, hasn’t played at all this year after being a fringe guy for 3 years. Don’t see many fringe 5’8 180 guys pushing close to 30 in nfl tcs. I’d bet between 3-5 are signed for rookie camp. Redmon is a guy who could be down south a long time based on athleticism. I’m not betting on any of the QBs being here this coming season.

I feel like getting it as a qb is really hit or miss. Either you’ll have a team love you and fall into it, or struggle to get any active roster time at all and bounce prs a lot. -
Praise is an interesting guy likely to be in camp imo. Not the raw athletic type, more polished and a really good football player. A lot like Habba imo. Redmon is a dt not de. Buts he’s got elite athleticism for a de as a very lean 6’2 290. Fits in great with the second pass rushing dt like walker. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jalen-redmond/32005245-4461-3410-5102-5e80a97e82ca Ayers is a great prospect wil/smallish mlber. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/michael-ayers/32004159-4555-9722-5f4b-57ce957d05e3 Grownowski is an elite blue chip qb prospect in the cfl. I imagine it’ll take a while for him to work his way up if an nfl coach doesn’t fall in love with him. Witherstone is a big strong db, excellent tackler, big time play making potential, explosive first step and jumping. Not a guy who plays db because he’s small and can’t play wr. He’s got huge upside.

Brings him closer. The hard thing is getting the games played for fringe guys. I wonder how much he will make if he finishes on the active roster.
