Duncan Keith is probably the best defenseman in the league, so his contract is absolute highway robbery by Stan Bowman...

It was for 13 years. Those contracts aren't allowed anymore but it is a nice cap hit...only 39k more than Myers' cap hit.

Keith and Seabrook are also very good players and some would say those deals are bargains. Enstrom has struggled this year and I'd love to move on from him if he wishes but... the reason he went back to Sweden earlier was because his fiancee was diagnosed with Cancer. Toby has struggled no doubt but prior to learning about the cancer... he was pretty solid.  His head is obviously elsewhere at times and honestly these guys are human.... I'd imagine that it can't be easy playing hockey in another country while your fiancee is at home battling cancer.

I'd move him too but a starting D man would have to be coming back or Chevy would have to have another starter because that would mean Melchiori starts...Stu, Postma and Mel all in the lineup? ...rather have Enstrom. Hope Enstrom's fiance beats the bastard. Trouba points to Enstrom for his improved play.

Exactly.  Mid-season save percentage is pretty much meaningless.

I think with Greiss (UFA) and Alzner (UFA) we are contenders...just for you Floyd, my 2017 roster...

    Laine Little Wheeler

    Ehlers Scheif Armia

    Matthias Lowry Dano

    Tanev Copp Roslo

    Alzner Buff

    Morrissey Trouba

    Enstrom Myers

    Greiss/Hellebuyck

Poolman, MP and Connor need to be in the lineup too???

100 point team easily with that lineup.

  3. What are Huddy's responsibilities and I am being honest? I don't know how the assistant coaches are used on the Jets. Does Maurice tell him what matchups he wants and he makes sure they are on the ice at the right time or what?

    What does Kompon do?

I have read that Woodcroft has been helping the centers on faceoffs but I have never really read anything about the other assistant's responsibilities.

Sigh... not that I think it really means anything.  But yes.

    Corey Crawford and Annti Niemi.

He had Crawford for one year and he had a .917 and is a career .918.

Niemi one year at .912 and a career .914.

If memory serves me, they won a cup under Falherty did they not?

Do you really think a goalie coach has that much influence anyway?

Well, that's actually what a good goalie coach does.  Look at Dubnyk.

Pavelec showed flashes of being a great goalie... he just can't keep focus for a whole season or often even a whole game.

Okay i just did....he put up .916 .914 .921 while playing in front of a piss poor Edmonton non-existent defense...what's your point? Have you found a goalie that did better after he left Flaherty's coaching yet? Besides 99 year old Budaj. What does that tell you? The goalie either isn't very good or won't listen. What exactly is he supposed to do if he won't hold his glove higher for instance?

edit ... I guess if Deadmonton had Minny's goalie coach Dubnyk would have put up those numbers there?

  6. We can dream, can't we? That young LHD I was talking about trading him for would look good about now. It is too bad though because he was playing some pretty good hockey just before his injury.

Besides, the Isles don't need more D men to protect...

I get it - you're going to defend the coaches until we get first pick overall.  I get it.

But let's reframe this.  Why couldn't Flaherty fix Pavelec's game after six years?  Why did Chicago let him leave while Corey Crawford was developing?

Interesting note... Helle's college goalie coach seems to have worked in the low glove position to his 'positional' style...   so maybe they don't want it fixed...  maybe this is just a rookie goalie that needs time

    Because Pavs isn't that good.

Do you expect a goalie coach to take a mediocre goalie and turn him into Ken Dryden?

For sure he needs time...never said he didn't.

  8. Not fair to compare him to the elite especially when he doesn't have that LA team playing in front of him.

The Jets think he is the goalie of the future and I am still okay with giving him more time. If at the end of next year or the halfway mark he hasn't shown much improvement, it would be time to look harder at Comrie or acquiring a #1 goalie in other ways.

Ideal situation was, and hindsight is 20/20, the Jets opening their wallets and acquiring a #1 to mentor Helle and let him develop with some vet help. The Isles goalie, Greiss, is one I would look at if he makes it to free agency this off-season. 30 years old and a career .919 and making 1.5m this year. 12-7-2 on a struggling Isles team this year. A 3 year deal or something.

HAHAHA did I?  Do you have a spreadsheet of posters on this board cross referenced with their comments on every topic you are usually wrong about? lol

Im generally a pretty even keel poster so if I was non-committal, then that seems about right.  Im quite certain I suggested, more than once, the best solution was Helle/Pavs.  But feel free to scour all my comments on the matter and let me know. ;-)

I looked it up to see what my opinion was at the time. I thought I was ecstatic about it and I was. I was wrong. They should have sent Hutch down and if he were claimed, they would have had a season to find someone for the expansion draft. What's a spreadsheet? Sounds dirty...

    Really?  That's a serious question?

Of course, he's noticed it.  He just can't fix it.

Look at Pavelec... same issues... Hutch's issues are deeper - with positional play... he seems to be regressing.

    Another serious queston then...

It is obvious Flaherty has tried to "fix it" right?

Why is it the guy being told to keep his glove higher doesn't take an ounce of blame here then? Maybe Flaherty should sew a string on the end of his glove to his shoulder so it won't go lower?

Hindsight is 20/20.  Price got to struggle in the NHL.  The problem with leaving Helle in the A is two-fold.  First, Comry was coming up behind and needed playing time too.  And secondly, it would mean they needed another goalie because Im not sure Jetsnation would have survived going into the season with Pavs as starter again.  So in a way they were caught in a bit of a crunch because they'd have to try and find a veteran goalie who was willing to play on a short-term dealer. PLUS, they'd have to unload Pavs because they werent going to pay two veteran goalies several million dollars OR have Hutch sitting around.

I dont disagree with their decision to go with Helle.  They expected he'd have growing pains and they expected Hutch to be a better back up.

Someone around here (oh yeah, me) said it should be Helle/Pavs to start the season.  That would have likely had us flirting with the playoffs because Pavs always plays better when he's under competition and he'd surely be better than Hutch.  Would have allowed Helle more rest.  Again though, hindsight is 20/20.

and yet when I look back at when Pavs was sent down you were very non-committal and didn't really say one way or the other.
