  1. It's a deep draft so I'm not really concerned. It's hard in my opinion to see Toronto passing on Demski given Durie's age and wanting to keep the ratio in tact. I think we'll still get who we want - and I doubt it would be him considering the state of our line.

Thought Coombs was Durie's replacement, but not a big deal for us anyway  - I can't see us spending our first pick on a receiver.

  2. To be honest, It would be pretty cool to see the opening ceremonies in Ottawa today, Should be quite something. I'm curious if those of us living in Winnipeg will even be able too tho. There is a Jets game on TSN 3 tonight, or TSN winnipeg really, Probably means the other TSN channels aren't authorized. I don't know when this happened but noticed it last week too, The other TSN channels are blacked out, not authorized it says. It's too bad cuz last week i was actually hoping to catch some of the football game, even while the Jets were on too, but i couldn't. First time i noticed i couldn't watch the other TSN Channels actually. To this day, some still say "not authorized". Prior to last week, they all were available to watch.

Pretty BS move by  TSN actually.

MTS gets all 5 in the basic package. For Shaw you need the sports package to get TSN 1, 4, and 5. TSN 3 is Jets regional broadcaster and TSN 2 is the national alternate channel. Basically you need to get the sports package with Shaw.

We have 3 promising QBs. Hopefully we can swing a trade for one of them in the offseason. Maybe pick up an OLineman...

Yes we finally have possible qb depth after 5 years and the first thing we should do is deplete it for a mediocre o lineman!!

A starting OLineman is better than a decent 3rd string quarterback. I wouldn't trade one for the likes of Pencer, but if the right person became available I would definitely look into it. Taman will probably come calling in the offseason considering how well their backups have played.

I know right?  I kept half hearing about this on the radio, and finally went to the site thinking there was a discount, and all it is is them basically loaning you the money.  WTF is that?  MPI is nothing but a friggen monopoly.  Sucks that we can't have more car insurance providers like in the US so our rates could come down.  WHY IS CANADA SO EXPENSIVE!!??!?!

MPI gives me far better rates than the company that I work for (that sells auto insurance in the US). Not sure where this myth comes from.

It really all depends. I don't know what MPI charges anymore but I know when I moved to Alberta being an under 25 male I got hammered on my rates. Hit 25 though and it's not so bad with a clean record.

I think the issue with MPI is that they seem to turn a pretty healthy profit, they could probably stand to lower their rates. A lot of people don't really like to see crown corporations earning a profit would rather see discounted rates.

Yea this is the big thing, MPI doesn't adjust rates based on age (except indirectly via merit points). As a 20-something, I'm paying a little over 1k a year for my 2012 car with a $200 deductible. I'd be paying quite a bit more to a private insurer.

  6. Budget cut is when you cut the amount of money a government department receives. It is not a cut when you take $ out of a Crown Corp. But by your logic, Autopact should raise it rates and then give the extra money to the Province.

The difference is little - the surplus from one year goes into the budget the next year. It's taking it from the bottom line as opposed to the top line. And yes - raising autopac rates would effectively be a tax increase.

The NDP balanced a budget by taking from the rainy day fund, hydro and riding rising transfer payments.

Hydro is a crown corp - they can't *take* from it because it's already government money. Also as a percentage of our GDP, our transfer payments have been decreasing.

Actually a Crown Corp is arms length, not another place where the government can take $ out of, although the NDP did so. Look at what transfer payments were and what they are now, the NDP has taken advantage of getting more $ from the Feds.

Of course the government can take funds from crown corps - they do it all the time. What do you think a budget cut is? Also equalization payments have been decreasing per capita - meaning Manitoba's population has increased and equalization payments have remained around the same:
