I don't understand the thought process behind these billboards. Do they think the Rider fans living in those cities need a reminder that the team is coming to town? As a Bomber fan living in Calgary I can assure you the first thing I look at on the schedule is when the Bombers are in Alberta. Do they think they'll convert people? I doubt it. Seems like they're simply pissing away money in an attempt to what? pat themselves on the back? Antagonize another fanbase? How does this investment pay off for them?

I don't mind it actually. I think it's a good "FU" to the fans in the city they are playing, and if they don't like it, they can put down some dough and come to the game to boo the Riders. I'm just glad that it's the Riders doing this, and not the Bombers, as it's pretty arrogant. The only thing is that this billboard strategy would probably back-fire in Toronto as the people of Toronto would say "Green is the new Double Blue? The Blue Jays are playing the Oakland A's this week?"

I just have a hard time seeing where the payoff is for them.. yeah it's marketing for the other team, but are the Riders really so loaded they're going to do the marketing for other teams now? The cheapskate in me doesn't see the profit in that expense

You forget the province we're talking about.  This is the same province that proposed the World Junior hockey team wear green because they really are just that disillusioned by the appeal of their club.

  2. TSN in general has this real bad habit of deciding the script for the game in advance and sticking to it come hell or high water. I have no idea why they feel they need to do that rather than letting the game unfold as it will and letting the on air "talent" talk about the game rather than their prepared game story.

This was huge for Winnipeg's first game against Hamilton.  Their endless slobbing of LeFevour was actually surprising in it's intensity...especially when the kid couldn't complete a pass in the first half.  When they came back in the second half and gave the Bombers a run for their money, the broadcast team was falling over themselves commending LeFevour for taking over the game as if it were a foregone conclusion the whole time.

...then of course, the music died  :D

Suitor is as bad, if not worse, than Rod Black lately.

C'mon man! No-one is worse than Black. I was watching LPGA highlights this aft and Blackie pipes up, "and those 3 were at her wedding last month." (About the 3 Korean girls leading the CP tournament.) Even the old lady, who doesn't watch sports and was in the kitchen says" What the hell is he talking about?, I thought you were watching golf." No-one compares to Blackies inane off-the-cuff-unrelated nonsense. No-one.

I stopped reading after "I was watching LPGA highlights this aft"

It's at the point where before you cheer a play you have to look for a flag or wait for the result of a flag

It's been like that for a while now. I find myself watching the NFL preseason games and holding my breath everytime a pass downfield is incomplete...then realize no flags are coming.

I believe the NFL is at an all-time high right now for penalties, averaging 12 a game. The CFL is averaging 23 per game. It's ridiculous.

And they call holding in the nfl, even when it isnt blatant and egregious

I feel like the NFL does good enough in the penalty department that they don't have to call every single thing as the game unfolds.  It sounds weird, but a GOOD official makes the calls that influence the game, not just every single foul that happens.  When a ref makes a call away from the play that would've had no bearing one way or another on the outcome of that particular play, I feel like they are doing a bad job.  Now, if it's a blatant chop block or a conduct-related penalty then they should absolutely throw a flag...but if you're calling a guy for holding on the left hashmark when a kick is being returned on the right side of the field you're probably being a little too strict.

  6. I think the problem with PI challenges is that they can be thrown on plays where there weren't any flags thrown.  If you give an officiating crew slow-motion and perhaps a slight Toronto bias enough time, you better believe they'll find something that can be construed as PI on MANY deep balls that get thrown.

I think if they want to clean up this PI challenging mess, they'd only allow a coach to challenge a flag that has been thrown.  It just seems way too bush-league to throw a prayer challenge flag down late in the game just hoping that Toronto can scrounge up enough evidence to call it PI...but I think you'll see that more and more.

  7. Yeah, for a newcomer to the CFL the only rule with the rouge he really has to know is that if it's a tie game and Robert Marve drives down to the 15 with 2 seconds left on the clock and the field goal team is coming out...the Bombers are probably going to win regardless if the FG is made or not.

    Disagree with the last line.

James Wright is useless. I'm sorry. We can find energy guys who compete nightly who also have a single ounce of offensive ability. Wright has none.

I wouldnt say he has zero offensive ability.  He has 10% terrible puck luck and 90% zero finish.  But he's a good guy to work hard, hustle, get into the corners and get the puck out, hopefully to someone else.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of guys out there that do what he does but also know how to finish.  I like Wright's motor and I like his desire...but he's just not one of those guys that gets you to the tournament at the end of the season.

  9. This wouldn't even be an issue if the Jets had won that game, guaranteed.

Not only that, but I doubt there's a single guy in that entire locker room that would fault Ladd for putting...you know...the birth of his child above ONE REGULAR SEASON GAME.

There are sports and then there are real life.  Hunter Mahan dropped out of the RBC Canadian Open while leading by two strokes to be with his wife...
