You can still get bubonic plague

This surprised me. Did not know you could get this disease, carried in fleas on a mouse, which infected the person's cat, which bit him.

I've been scratched many times by my cats that eat lots of mice.

Yep, prairie dogs are carriers. Fortunately, anti-biotics pretty much render it pretty much impotent (well much more than in the middle ages).
