Cuz the Manitoba PCs propped up an Addams family cast reject that was wholly unlikable and won- and the MB NDP saw that as a challenge and was all- "hold my beer."

A group of surgeons at Grace Hospital wrote a letter to the Health Minister outlining concerns five months ago. Nothing was done. NDP raises it in the house yesterday including a copy of the letters (signatories names redacted). PCs claim its fake since the names are not given, downplay it and refuse to do anything about it. Bunch of Ghouls.

I could list many more such stories but for any PC supporter here, explain how you defend this party?

Grace Hospital surgeons wait months for government action on ‘dire situation’

By: Danielle Da SilvaPosted: 7:50 PM CDT Tuesday, Apr. 18, 2023

Five months after orthopedic surgeons at Grace Hospital pleaded with Health Minister Audrey Gordon for help to meet demand for joint replacements, doctors continue to wait for government funding and approval to tackle backlogs and bolster the beleaguered program.

On Tuesday, the Manitoba NDP tabled a letter signed by 10 orthopedic surgeons at Grace Hospital and sent to Gordon on Nov. 8, 2022, in question period.

The letter states the west Winnipeg hospital is struggling to offer the basic standard of care, owing to a lack of staff, resulting in trauma patients waiting too long for treatment and non-urgent surgical patients experiencing significant delays and cancellations.

“Our current path is clearly not providing the orthopedic health care that Manitobans deserve. To continue our present course is not an option,” the letter states. “The public needs to be aware of this dire situation, particularly in the presence of apathy and no demonstrable willingness for change.”

The Free Press independently confirmed the letter was written by the surgeon group. On Tuesday, a signatory said Grace doctors have not received additional support from the hospital or health region since penning the three-page appeal.

In the letter, the surgeons express dismay at being told to book fewer joint replacements to avoid cancellations and accommodate acute surgeries.

A Winnipeg Regional Health Authority spokesperson confirmed Tuesday scheduled elective cases were reduced by 20 per cent at Grace Hospital to minimize cancellations.

“To continue to delay access to some of the most reliable and successful procedures in all medicine is a failure of our health-care system to Manitobans,” the letter states.

Attempts to address concerns with hospital administration, the WRHA and Shared Health led nowhere, the doctors said, and a proposal to increase surgical capacity at Grace Hospital was rejected.

At the time, the province’s diagnostic and surgical recovery task force had not communicated with the surgical group or assisted the program, the doctors wrote to the minister.

On Tuesday, Opposition Leader Wab Kinew accused the Progressive Conservative government of ignoring pleas for help and demanded Premier Heather Stefanson explain why their proposal was rejected.

“That’s shocking — we should be investing in the Grace Hospital, not making more cuts,” Kinew said in question period.

Stefanson and deputy premier Cliff Cullen chided the Opposition for tabling a document that did not include names of the signatories.

Kinew argued the names were redacted to protect the doctors from reprisal “at the hand of the Stefanson government.”

“We on this side of the house take the health care of Manitobans very seriously,” Stefanson said, pointing to increased spending. “We’re making sure that the patients get the health care they need, when they need it.”

Gordon, meanwhile, chose not to address questions raised by NDP health critic Uzoma Asagwara directly, and instead cast doubt on the authenticity of the letter and its appeals for ministerial intervention.

The health minister asked for the NDP to produce the surgeons’ signatures.

“Until they do, I request that they discontinue making statements that are not factual and is not based on any evidence,” Gordon said.

“We continue to work with the surgeons and administration at Grace Hospital to ensure they have all the resources they need to provide exceptional care to Manitobans.”

Gordon did not answer address reporters after question period Tuesday.

The minister’s office did not respond by deadline when asked if Gordon had received and responded to the surgeons’ letter.

The letter was made public one day after two advisers on the surgical recovery task force announced their resignations, over concerns privatization was being prioritized over patient care.

On Monday, the Free Press reported sleep specialists Dr. Eleni Giannouli and Dr. Nancy Porhownik quit the task force April 6. The doctors said their proposals to eliminate sleep disorder test backlogs with more staff and equipment were “shelved.”

The task force was scheduled to decide Tuesday whether it would fund a proposal by Grace Hospital’s surgeons to reduce wait lists for orthopedic procedures, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Neither the WRHA nor Gordon’s office would confirm a proposal was in front of the task force Tuesday.

“Grace Hospital leadership continues to work with physicians and the diagnostic and surgical recovery task force on solutions to ensure continuing safe patient care with a number of proposals being considered,” a WRHA spokesperson said.

(even though you're talking Provincial level not Federal level and the response I gave lacks coherency and substance and has nothing to do with the health issue you are referring to)

Shove? Nope. Lying Khan-man? Yep.

I heard him on the radio this morning he said EXACTLY what many MBB posters were saying- they are going to use Khan's clean record and Wab's past history and politicize the **** out of this...

Lost a lot of respect for Khan. What a "piece of ****".

The thing with Obby is bizarre. Did he not suspect that it might have been caught on video? I'm actually surprised this is the only video with all the cell phones in the audience as well. Perhaps it was just an attempt to remind the public that Wab is a violent bad boy, even if the accusations were eventually proven to be B.S.?

Wab needs to wear his history. He has remained pretty unscathed by it so far. Despicable actions and I don't care how long ago they were or how he has "reformed" his temper. He has never shown an ounce of contrition for what should be a crime that garners automatic jail time. I have no respect whatsoever for that man.

Wab very clearly pulled Khan back into a conversation he was trying to disengage from.  I didn't see any shove in the video, but not allowing another person to disengage by use of force is called assault.

Sure. But the fact the PCs lie about what happened just to frame him acceptable due to his past?

The accusations are not BS. Not at all. I know the woman, I know her family, and I know many who at one time called them (Wab and the victim) both friends. Not a single one has any doubt as to what happened.

I saw Wab very clearly refuse to let Obby go when he tried to walk away. It wasn't a push but still unacceptable. Not really a lie, but an exaggeration imo.

Yes. It was bizarre that Kinew even chose to engage and refused to end the engagement at that point and time during a ceremony. The video doesn't show a shove, although the angle is very poor, but it does very clearly show Wab refusing to let go of Khan and pulling him back into a conversation he was trying to leave. I would have been upset if I were Khan too.

Yes, and as a native person, I can tell you he is especially unpopular amongst his own people. He is not a guy that garners much respect in native circles. I have no doubt anytime that someone criticizes Wab that it will be labelled racism though, and in many cases it might be, but he is a stinker that has hid behind that for a long time and I hope he is raked over the coals for his actions. However, I'm not sure this will translate into a big vote loss for the NDP. The PCs are equally unpopular for different reasons, However, with a different leader the NDP would be so far out front right now they wouldn't even need to campaign come the fall.

Yes, we all saw that- the issue for me is how khan misrepresented what happened and lied to the House in order to politicize this.

Did he? We don't know that definitively unless someone here has XRay vision. We do know that Wab refused to be gracious, and instead was confrontational, and then refused to disengage by physically not letting Khan go. The push we don't know. However, if you are looking to absolve Wab, the evidence is very clear that he assaulted Khan. Whether it is a push, or pull it really doesn't matter.  Reprehensible behavior. Khan was visibly upset and disturbed by this, and I don't blame him.

Its going to be heavy on the racist dog whistles for the PCs. Ewasko got called out for calling Wab an actor and that he's no Adam Beach. Confronted about it in the house and double down.

The damage to Wab's reputation has not even begun yet and it's not going to come from the PCs although I suspect they will absolutely jump on it afterwards. There is a certain AFN ex-Chief that is going to drop a couple of big bombs during the election campaign on Wab and Nahanni. Its going to be political dynamite. You heard it here first.

Not looking to absolve him- he did what we did, and he should be held accountable for it. Do I think the shmucks are trying to blow this out of proportion, embellish this, and politized the **** outta this because they really have nothing to run on other than, OMG, he's a thug? Yes. Yes, I do.

It's sad that that the NDP is saddled with this leader- too much baggage. I feel that NDP policies with a terrible leader are much better than PC policies with or without a good leader.

I agree on the latter and I will be voting NDP this election. I just wish I could vote NDP in and Wab out....although I have a feeling he may have to resign in the near future. There is a smoking gun out there and he betrayed the man holding it.

If that is true, then what the PCs chose to do in this situation, makes absolutely 0 sense

Unless they don't know about it

No I don't. I just know a crap load of them that all share my opinion from all parts of this province. I know many chiefs from around the province and Wab will not be getting their endorsement. I work a ton in native circles as a volunteer, and politically. Politically, I have ran campaigns for 2 AMC chiefs, and 1 MKO chief. I know all the players in the room and I have had discussions on many topics with all of them. I have a ton of insight into this. Do I speak for every native, of course not, NO ONE speaks for everyone, but I am confident that I speak for enough of them.

They don't know. This is going to be a retaliation move for some perceived greasy back room politics at the AMC orchestrated by Wab and Nahanni.  It has nothing to do with the PCs at all.
