2022 NHL Playoffs

Recommended Posts

Fun fact - no NHL team has ever given up 8 or more goals twice in the same playoff year and gone on to win the Stanley Cup that same year. Only the 1980 NY Islanders and the 1984 Edmonton Oilers have given up 8 goals in any one single playoff game and gone on to win the Cup that same year (those 1980 Islanders also gave up 7 in another game). The 1945 Toronto Maple Leafs gave up a record 10 goals in a playoff game for a team that went on to win the Cup that same year.

There is one other pro North American team to have multiple defensive breakdowns like this year’s Oilers and still win a championship. The 1979 WHA Winnipeg Jets gave up 8 goals in one game and 10 in another (their only two playoff losses that year), but ended up winning the Avco Cup.

Nurse is great.... But he's hurt bordering on being a liability.

He's not tho. He's not a 9 million a year D man. He's not even worth 6 really.  He's terrible.  That contract will be q huge anchor cuz not only is he overpaid but... that's the bench mark now for Edmonton d, 9 million plus per year. Good luck building anything behind him ever

That Bouchard guy is terrible too.

Bouchard also a fantastic player who's only getting better. Young kid out of the London Knights NHL player factory who's still learning. He's being forced to do too much out there, when he should be playing sheltered minutes and being brought along slowly.

Nurse, Bouch and Broberg are very good players who will be the core of their D...

Oilers on the brink they need better a better goaltender and better D than they currently have. Kane has kinda disappeared.

This is the Oilers every season.

koskinen is going to Europe next year, Smith is done. Skinner likely to come up next year, and not sure if they'll go after someone in FA or what. But yes, new goaltending next year is yes. The D is solid...guys are just really dinged up right now. They've also got more young offensive pieces coming, like Holloway and Bourgeault, among others...
