Who says everything Strev does would be automatic? I realize that the NFL has bigger players and more athletic but man who would have thought Streveler was going to be so adept at running plays and bulldozing to make those plays work.

I still think he’s a weapon you can use, inside or out. Plays are designed for certain players. Plays should be designed for Strev.

But alas, the NFL doesn't work that way. Short yardage isn't like it is up here. We were running the same type of plays 10 years ago the NFL is now. The starter stayed in. We'd also had  our qbs hand off to the back 5 yards deep on a search play. Or run a qb sneak up the middle. Very little imagination. There was no specific short yardage units in thr CFL. I believe John Hufnagel was the first CFL coach to run a special short yardage unit.

No one here hates Streveler. We all want him to do well but the NFL is a different game. I think special teams is more important up here in the CFL than the NFL as they have an extra down to work with on a smaller field. So, the style of play he has just isn't as important in the NFL. Which is why he shone in the Bomber offense last year.

He has to learn to make all the throws if he wants any kind of future in the NFL. Taysom Hill is learning that now as QB of the Saints while Brees is out. It doesn't matter now if he can play running back, qb or receiver. It's can he move the ball for 60 minutes running the entire offense? Not just a handful of plays designed for him. Time will tell. Can Streveler play in an NFL offense & be effective moving the ball or is he just a niche qb who comes in on short yardage?

I also said that once a player leaves he is a former Bomber to me. He's no longer here & although I'd like to see him do well. I didn't become a Cardinals fan because he plays for them.  Nor will I be. So, I look at him as just another NFL rookie trying to do well & keep his job.

As a Niner fan, I want Strev starting for the Cards and won't stop lobbying until he gets it.

Otherwise, I want him back in Winnipeg, on a reasonable back-up+ contract.

Can you show us where someone said he is the end all be all of QBs? All I've seen is people wanting him to get a chance and QB sneaks lol.

Well, only since you asked. Here are the receipts:

Unbelievable, not using the guy who is one of the best for that exact situation.

Well, if they’re not going to use him there, I don’t know why I would watch them again.

lol nfl

need three inches, hand off to a guy who lines up five yards behind the line, while streveller sits on the bench.

Down on the one and instead of putting in Streveler to run it in for a sure td....Cards could have had a go ahead td in the late going but instead of putting in Streve for a sure new set of downs...When is Kingsbury going to realize what they have sitting on the bench in Chris

IF I'm an owner, I want some answers as to why I'm putting in a light weight to run a yard when I've got a guy sitting on the bench that could have made the difference in a win instead of a loss

On 2020-11-30 at 2:12 PM, Stickem said:He wouldn't have had to kick a 50 yarder IF Streve lines up behind two of those big o line guys and pummels the line....Murray may be a running qb. but not the type Chris is....He's already proven he can get a yard with that club....why not try it again...Piss poor coaching as far as I'm concerned and probably one of the reasons the Cards will be also rans

ImHaving him on the bench on short yardage situations is nuts. They’ll failing at that.

FYI the Cards have the #2 offence in the NFL, only behind the Chiefs. And they are #3 in rushing.

That’s certainly not the same as saying he’d be unbeatable at QB for Arizona. Reading and understanding what you’ve read seems to be an issue with you.
It’s almost as if you’ve never seen Streveler run from the QB position.
All along it’s been said that he should have a package designed for him, to take the hits off their main man Murray so he could continue his marvellous play.
That’s it. That’s all.

Your grading fails..

If a team has a dual threat QB the likes of Kyler Murray, setting up a package for a 2nd QB becomes redundant AND it just hampers the ability to keep continuity for the offence, When you have the 2nd best O in the NFL and your starting QB is an elite rusher why as a coach would you ever rock that boat.

To keep your starting QB as an elite player. Streveler would hardly play, but he would be a change of pace. How would Arizona handle an injury to Murray, like the one that almost kept him out?

You guys are making far too big a deal about Streveler actually getting in a game.

Sorry. I had asked where someone says he is the end all be all of QBs....not examples of people saying he should be given an opportunity to run a short yardage package....Just because that's' all I've seen/read. People saying he should get a shot at doing that. I believe you claimed people thought he was "the end all be all". I'm just asking where you saw that.

I don't really see any point of a package...except for short yardage situations. I wouldn't want Murray in the bottom of a pile. Other than that I agree with you.

I'm fine with the idea of Streveler being a 4th down QB if that's what the Cards choose to do. I can also understand why they don't use him very often for that and do not view it as a mistake by their coaching staff. The original post on this topic suggested that the Cards lost this last week because they did not put Streveler in the game on the goal line, and didn't gamble late in the game but opted for a FG attempt. I don't view either of those coaching decisions a mistake by the Cardinals. The topic then morphed into Streveler's progression being hampered by not having any kind of offensive package. Again, I do not see what being a QB sneak specialist would do for his progression as a QB, and building any sort of other offensive package just takes an MVP calibre QB off the field which makes no sense for any team to do.

Streveler was a backup CFL QB who got opportunities when we lost our starter. He also had some running plays in the regular offence in the post season. I have no reason to beleive that he'll get the same chances in the NFL as he did in the CFL, especially in his first year. I'll be shocked if he gets more than 10 plays in total this year.

We really like Chris,” Kingsbury said in his Monday media session. “Didn’t know what to expect. Watched his CFL stuff and he was running around out there making a lot of plays, and then you get him here and he did a nice job picking up our offense.”

Kingsbury called him smart, athletic and “very accurate.”

“We wanted to get him involved and see where it goes,” he added.

While some compare Streveler to a guy like the New Orleans Saints’ Taysom Hill, who plays some quarterback, plays on special teams, lines up at tight end or even at receiver, Kingsbury doesn’t see that in him.

“He plays quarterback, he said. “It’s not one of those deals where he’s a ‘slash’ guy. He’s a real quarterback and has done a real nice job.”

Cliff Kingsbury,  what the hell does he know.

Fun fact on the Air Raid, Hal Mumme took concepts from Don Matthew's CFL offenses. There is a great book on the development of that offense called, "The Perfect Pass" by S.C. Gwynne.

Just finished to listening the audio book. Really fascinating stuff. Really he is the founder of the modern passing attack. Most teams use bits a pieces of the air raid now.

seems the coach thinks hes good enough to play qb in the nfl , unlike the experts here....

the cardinals made streveller their backup. if murray cant play,

Streveller will play.

quarterback. in the NFL.

Yeah I got that. I was trying to point out, that most head coaches are going to say their players can play in the NFL. Its not at all unusual or unique to Streveler.

What's Kingsbury going to say? That Streveler can't? Wouldn't he look foolish?? Sure he can play but the question is can he be a long term starter if Murray goes down long term with an injury? If I was a Cards fan I'd be more concerned about that over wheter he can run short yardage.

I would say the fact they made Strevy QB2 over Hundley, who has way more experience, makes what Kingsbury said much more than the usual lip service.
