Texas Gov. Abbott tests positive for COVID after speaking to a packed house

Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday he has tested positive for COVID-19, the potentially deadly disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The Texas Republican has steadfastly refused to lift his anti-science ban on mask and vaccine mandates.

Texas is among the worst states for coronavirus currently, with an extremely high caseload and low vaccination rate.

Abbott reportedly has been vaccinated, and his office says he is tested daily.  Gov. Abbott spoke to a packed house Monday night of about 600 people, where few wore masks and social distancing was non-existent.

Christian Radio Host Who Called Vaccine ‘Government Control’ Dies of COVID-19

A religious radio broadcaster who spread disinformation about the coronavirus vaccines was killed by the virus Sunday. Dr. Jimmy DeYoung Sr. had been admitted to the hospital Aug. 7 with COVID-19 complications, according to his wife Judy, who also contracted the virus. In February, DeYoung published an interview promoting the conspiracy theories that the Pfizer vaccine would make women sterile and that world governments were using the virus and vaccine to centralize power. DeYoung’s guest at the time, Sam Rohrer, said that very few people who were infected lost their lives, calling the vaccine only a “purported solution” and “not truly a vaccine.”

Both host and guest encouraged listeners to read conspiracy-minded materials on the coronavirus vaccine, with DeYoung asking, “Could this vaccine be another form of government control of the people?” DeYoung’s daughter Jodi wrote of his death on Facebook, “God has called a faithful servant home. Dr Jimmy DeYoung passed away early this morning at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.” His show, “Prophecy Today,” aired daily. Before focusing on Christian prophecy, DeYoung worked as a journalist in Israel. DeYoung is one of a number of public figures who have died of COVID-19 in recent months after telling their audiences to refuse the jab.

Saw a Twitter post from an ICU nurse. She asks the COVID patients why they didn’t take the vaccine. When they respond “because we don’t know what is in it so we can’t be sure it’s safe” she replies “I’ve given you 5 injections today while I’ve been treating you, and you haven’t asked once what was in what I was giving you and took it gratefully”.

The union representing public school teachers in Manitoba has called for the provincial government to make it mandatory for all public school employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

On Tuesday, the provincial executive of the Manitoba Teachers' Society voted unanimously in favour of asking for a vaccine mandate.

The motion says there should be exceptions for those with a medical or religious reason for not being vaccinated, but anyone not able to receive the vaccine should be required to undergo regular testing for COVID-19.

This only makes sense, IMO.

So what do you do with teachers who don't want to get vaccinated? Pretty sure you can't fire them. Do you say vaccinated or regular testing as Ontario is doing?

Leave without pay until most of the kids are vaccinated. Bring them back when most of the children are fully vaxxed....

You want you're freedumb? sure, but not at the cost of the children's health.

So... Desantis opens up florida completely,

-bans any sort of mandate for masks,

-punishes school districts who wan to protect unvaxed kids

-Gets $5mil from regeneron who makes an monoclonal cocktail to TREAT covid.

-Desantis does pressers to push for the use of regenron...

-Regenron in turn have their shares go from $449 to $647 per share... ~44% increase in share value in 4 months.

How is this not criminal? it looks like Desantis got paid to force everyone to get covid and then HAVE to go for treatment in turn making regeneron a **** ton of money. ******* Florida...

As COVID-19 Cases Soar, More Hospitals Report ICUs Nearing Capacity, With Worst To Come

Hospitals across the nation are buckling under the surge in COVID-19 infections linked to the highly transmissible delta variant of the coronavirus, with some states reporting their intensive care units are rapidly filling with patients, much like winter’s wave of cases before vaccines were readily accessible.

More than a quarter of the nation’s ICU beds in use are currently occupied by COVID-19 patients, according to figures maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services. But an increasing number of states have said their intensive care wards are reaching capacity, with 1 in 5 ICUs at or over 95% full nationwide, The New York Times reported.

Public health officials from Hawaii to Mississippi, from Oregon to Texas have portended bleak statistics in the coming weeks, saying hospitalizations are already higher now than they were in January. Alabama said Tuesday it was out of ICU beds and was actually at “negative” capacity, and Oregon said hospitalizations rose 11% overnight as new cases soared.

“We’ve never been here before,” Dr. Don Williamson, president of the Alabama Hospital Association, told the local NBC affiliate. “We are in truly now in uncharted territory in terms of our ICU bed capacity.”

No worries, you can always ship them to another province state that does have capacity. 🙄

And the union would not have their back...

Yup. It's a tiny minority of anti vaxxers plus kids only not really vaxxed now.

Their main excuse seems to be that the vaccines were approved as an emergency measure. I guess they wanted the lockdowns to continue.

My almost 7 year old will be wearing a mask to school whether mandated or not. She already knows this lol

Florida.. my brother in law was just in Orlando for 5 days for a family event and he said everyone was masking up and all businesses including Disney were mandating masks on rides and in stores so some of the stuff u hear on TV or the net might be just certain small sections of the large populated state

To be honest he said everyone he saw in Orlando was wearing masks in stores.

Interesting article on Covid exposure, Long covid, who's at fault and extra compensation.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/nurse-st-boniface-hospital-covid-19-post-viral-fatigue-1.6145751

A nurse who believes she caught COVID-19 while working at St. Boniface Hospital — in an area where she was told she didn't need an N95 mask — says she wants better compensation from Shared Health, fearing she might never be able to return to work full time.

She's been unable to do activities that require exertion, such as carrying groceries, going for long walks, doing yard work or working out.

She says she's had to pull over while driving because she got tired and has cancelled social plans, such as leaving a family cabin retreat last week.

I feel for this woman, long covid is a real thing.

I find it very interesting that the article never mentions that she was vaccinated. If she was not, does that change anything?

I think it will be some time before we understand the full ramifications of long Covid.  And yes, it is a real thing.

Vaccinated people aren't 100% immune from catching Covid.  That has never been advertised. This likely depends on a lot of of factors, but it has been shown that people at most risk of severe Covid ramifications are those with comorbidities.  This is very true for people who are worst affected by Covid whether vaccinated or not.  Full disclosure that is pure speculation on who is likely still affected.

Covid isn't going anywhere.  Especially with new strains coming out.  We need to figure out how to live with it as a society.  At this point, with where we are at and how widely it has spread, I don't expect Covid is going to be completely irradiated any time soon.
