Trudeau's buddies in the EU like Macron & Merkle showing their true colours. Ever since he got elected in 2015 Justin has wanted to be a part of their globalist agenda. Globalism only suits them when they are at an advantage. Look at how the US is hoarding vaccines. Biden... another so called globalist.

oh that's why, well so much for my mother being officially eligible tomorrow

A couple factors to consider. As the age limit gets lowered each year represents many more people than the group before. The number of people 65 is many more than 70, 63 and 64 will be even more. Even with a steady supply of vaccine these changes will be less frequent.
Secondly out vaccine supply is not consistent, not even remotely so. EU, USA and India all have or working on ways to bolster domestic supply by curbing exports. I hope it doesn’t come to it but I won’t be surprised if we don’t see a resumption of steady supply until May/June once the EU is much farther along in its program and we start to get their extras.

As per CBC News this morning, there has been an explosion of COVID variant cases in Regina, leading to a severe clampdown.  Scary- it could happen here, too if we are not vigilant and respect the restrictions.

I doubt this has much to do with people living in Regina.  Those variants were brought in via flights, which is exactly what is happening in MB.

Globalism isn't the enemy here. Canada has nobody to blame for this dilemma but itself after dismantling its own domestic infrastructure for vaccine production a few decades ago. That shortsightedness back then is what's put us in this present situation, so pointing fingers at other countries or crying about the Globalist Bogeyman is just childish and ignorant.

Agreed nobody to blame but ourselves. But we had the time, knowledge  and money to be doing our own vacine. It's a major screw up that is costing lives.

This too bad. I don't mind the screwing over England over Brexit but not us!

Yep, even a year later. How is there not a shovel in the ground for a vaccine making facility?

That's up the drug companies?

Calgary also has a facility built that is being fitted to manufacture vaccines. Should be up and running later this year.

Manitoba is a heavy investor in that facility. Pallister handed his buddy $7M guaranteed.

Of course, Pallister doesn't remember serving in gov't with him.

What vaccines is this gov't owned and operated facility going to produce?

If you are referencing the Calgary facility, it is privately owned and will not be able to produce vaccines until this summer at the earliest, and then there is the approval process, which could take weeks. If Mulroney hadn't shut down Connaught Laboratories, we would have been in much better shape.

Despite nearly two decades of warnings, planning and government spending, the Public Health Agency of Canada was not ready for the global pandemic and did not appreciate the threat it posed in its early stages, Canada's auditor general says.

In a hard-hitting review released today, Auditor General Karen Hogan took the country's primary pandemic response agency to task for failures in early warning, surveillance, risk assessments, data-sharing with the provinces and follow-up on Canadian travelers who were ordered into quarantine.

"The agency was not adequately prepared to respond to the pandemic, and it underestimated the potential impact of the virus at the onset of the pandemic," said the AG's review — one of three that looked at the Liberal government's management of the COVID-19 crisis, which as of Thursday had killed 22,780 Canadians and brought the country's economy to its knees.

The auditor also reviewed federal COVID emergency benefit programs such as the Canada emergency response benefit (CERB) and the Canada emergency wage subsidy (CEWS) to determine whether the benefits reached people in need and whether the government imposed enough controls to limit abuse.

Her most critical comments, however, were reserved for the topic of pandemic preparedness. Hogan said PHAC, which was established to ensure the country was ready for a major outbreak, "was not as well prepared as it could have been" because major contingency plans and issues related to surveillance had not been resolved or dealt with — even though some of them had been pointed out by previous auditors.

"I am discouraged that the Public Health Agency of Canada did not address long-standing issues, some of which were raised repeatedly for more than two decades," Hogan said.

"These issues negatively affected the sharing of health surveillance data between the Agency and the provinces and territories."

TLDR; Canada got caught with its pants down due to a lack of preparedness regarding a global health crisis.

If you are referring to the Quebec National Research Council plant I believe the deal is to produce the Moderna vaccine long after they have said we will all be vaccinated. I wonder why they didn’t make use of the empty NRC buildings in downtown Winnipeg... Oh yeah, Winnipeg isn’t in Quebec...

The UK started building facilities last April after the pandemic arrived. They developed and produced their own vacine since then. They have now vaccinated about %46 of their population. And this was done in a toxic political environment. Our Federal  government should be ashamed of itself. They attempted a poorly arranged joint deal with a Chinese government that has few ethics and was already angry at us. What  a surprise it fell through. They then sat on their thumbs for months.  Kudos to our provincial government for putting money into a Alberta/ Manitoba made vacine even though it won't be available till maybe October. Those guys were beating on the Feds door for a long time and couldn't get action.

Imagine being such an ignorant, misinformed piece of **** that you'd willingly waste your time and money on helping spread lies and conspiracy theories peddled by an American anti-vaxxer.

Human stupidity is the pandemic for which there seems to be no cure.
