I doubt the people working on the implementation are dropping due to the virus.  And most of what Ive heard about the ease of applying has been positive.  Its not the execution so much as the Prime Minister saying one thing and reality being another.  Also, as I said, we specifically asked our MP who was very specific in his response that CERB was for anyone negatively impacted and if you had reduced income but still had some income, it was for you.  Imagine his surprise when it wasnt.

Couple more examples.  My sister is 20, just got her own apt last year.  Working full time at a juice place.  The business has obviously been hit with reduced revenue so they are giving everyone 1-2 shifts per week.  By doing that, she doesnt qualify for CERB but still cant pay her rent.

A friend is a gig worker, free lance writer.  He actually suffered when a couple of outstanding invoices have gone unpaid because the people who hired him were hit by this, so he's fine with that.  What can he do.  He actually does qualify for CERB right now, but he has some usual work that is coming up.  You're not supposed to decline work but if he doesnt, he might take a gig for, say $300 and then not qualify anymore.

One thing, this shows the importance of having some savings.  But we know that anyway.  Most people cant.  This is an extenuating situation.

There is also thousands of graduated high school students and university students without work who do not qualify for this CERB

What bothers me with all these people not getting paid, claiming EI, and borrowing money to cover expenses - where is all the money going that was paying their salaries?

I have a feeling it's making its way to the top somehow - and it will take a bloody long time (if ever), until it trickles down again.

It always winds up at the top. There is plenty of wealth in the world to cover the cost of things going on right now. Problem is that it's being horded by greedy misers who don't want to share. They got more money than they or their kids or their kids kids could ever spend yet they'd trade it all for a little more.

I do not know how you can state that the people working on rolling out the program are immune from becoming infected with the corona virus. Anyone who might be showing the effects of infection will be sent home summarily so that they will not pass the potential illness along.

Pastor Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge spoke to TMZ this Wednesday, saying that if his church members die from coronavirus, they’ve done so in the name of religious freedom.

Spell was charged with violating an executive order that bans churches from holding large gatherings, but showed his defiance last Tuesday by holding a service that was attended by over 1,000 people. Speaking to TMZ, Spell said that true Christians would be willing to die from coronavirus, adding that those who “prefer tyranny over freedom do not deserve freedom.”

“The bible teaches us to be absent from our bodies so we can be present with the Lord,” Spell said. “So like any revolutionary, or like any zealot, or like any pure religious person, death looks to them like a welcomed friend.”

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the federal government is quietly seizing supply orders from states and hospitals, leaving medical providers across the country wondering where the supplies are and where they’re going.

“Hospital and clinic officials in seven states described the seizures in interviews over the past week,” writes the Times’ Noam Levy. “The Federal Emergency Management Agency is not publicly reporting the acquisitions, despite the outlay of millions of dollars of taxpayer money, nor has the administration detailed how it decides which supplies to seize and where to reroute them.”

U.S. Has Deadliest Coronavirus Day on Record: 1,800+ Lost

GRIM REALITY
Updated Apr. 08, 2020 5:55AM ET Published Apr. 08, 2020 4:24AM ET

The United States on Tuesday recorded its highest coronavirus death toll in a single day with more than 1,800 virus-related fatalities, bringing the nation’s death toll to nearly 13,000, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University. The numbers show the U.S. now has almost 400,000 of the world’s 1.4 million reported COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, in Italy and Spain, which are the hardest-hit countries in Europe, encouraging data means that some lockdown restrictions could be lifted shortly after Easter. However, the toll in the U.K. continued to surge, with deaths now topping 6,100. The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the epidemic is believed to have started, was lifted from its 74-day lockdown on Wednesday.

U.S. Intel Officials Warned White House of ‘Cataclysmic’ Virus in November, Says Report

U.S. intelligence officials warned the White House that the coronavirus outbreak could turn into a “cataclysmic event” as far back as November, ABC News reports. Concerns about what came to be known as the novel coronavirus pandemic were reportedly outlined in a November intelligence report by the military’s National Center for Medical Intelligence, and then briefed to the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon, and the White House. The report is said to have warned about a disease sweeping through China’s Wuhan region and posing a threat to the population. “Analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event,” one of ABC’s sources said of the NCMI report. The report warned of a serious threat to U.S. forces in Asia, and indicates that the Trump administration could have ramped up containment efforts far earlier to prepare for the impending crisis. The Pentagon, the National Security Council, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence each declined to comment on the ABC report

Top White House trade adviser Peter Navarro warned the Trump administration in January that the coronavirus could kill 543,000 Americans. He later raised his projection to 1.2 million Americans, but the president claims that "nobody" saw the crisis coming.

Navarro sounded the alarm in late January that the virus threatened to cost the country trillions of dollars and infect millions of Americans in a memo obtained by The New York Times.                                                                                                                       "The lack of immune protection or an existing cure or vaccine would leave Americans defenseless in the case of a full-blown coronavirus outbreak on U.S. soil," wrote Navarro, the highest-ranking official known to If the probability of a pandemic is greater than roughly 1%, a game-theoretic analysis of the coronavirus indicates the clear dominant strategy is an immediate travel ban on China," Navarro wrote.

If there was any justice in this world that whole administration would be on trial for this ****.

Instead Biden will get elected and urge the country to heal and not dredge up the past enabling the shitty behaviour to continue.

When did people stop holding politicians to a higher standard?

There is ZERO chance Biden will get elected - just watched his interview with Cuomo - its painful.

Covid chaos will allow mass voter suppression plus black communities will be hit harder because of housing/$$

Trump will win in one of the biggest landslides in US history - if not the biggest...  just watch.

Sad to say that there is an understanding between dominant political parties that, when the ruling party loses an election and is replaced, there will be no investigation or prosecution of the outgoing party. And example of this was the lack of prosecution of Brian Mulroney despite all the allegations in "On The Take" book which detailed all the corruption in that administration. The author was never even interviewed. The only exception to this that comes to mind was the prosecutions of Grant Devine's flagrantly corrupt government when the NDP took power,

This is a great reference province by province - the curve is absolutely destroyed in BC...

Quebec's info is a mess because they changed the way they're measuring cases mid-outbreak

Ontario looks like it will get worse before it gets better - not sure how you lock down GTA - even if you do the seniors homes and crowded housing are a major issue

Still watching Sweden and Denmark for comparables

Normally but I think this will be different.  Maybe no investigations in terms of crimes committed while president.  But a DOJ that isn’t handcuffed will have plenty of crimes to investigate surrounding trump.

Its interesting because students and the unemployed dont qualify for CERB because they werent making an income but this is killing their job prospects.  I believe those on EI are getting bumped up.  But if this student program means a student will get a part time job...why not just let them CERB?  And ofcourse, change the CERB rules to allow a person making partial income to apply.

Talked about a half baked plan.  "Hey, just tell the nation is awesome and no one will ever have to worry.  We'll screw em later."

Then you've got people cheating.  I know a guy who has two FB accounts.  His personal account where he is bragging about how easy it was to apply for CERB and he cant wait for the cheque to buy a case of booze.  His "professional" fb is his online collectibles business with a big heading of "we are open".

Well here is my question... if the government is going to pay for a student to be hired, what's to stop a company such as mine from firing me and hiring a student to do the job?

This happens every year regardless...

Some people realized that politicians are just puppets and those pulling their strings have a different agenda from the "people". Combine that with the masterful job the media does of shaping the minds of "the people" and you get what we have today -- a panicked, misinformed, mob in fight-or-flight mode willing to conform and swallow without question whatever is fed to them.

spoken by the most misinformed here.

It is OK to question what you are told, but if it's not backed up with sound logic you're not any more informed, just being a contrarian.
