I don't think it's replacing him that's people are against. IF they find someone better perfect. You're making it sound like Thompkins has no business playing pro ball. Only speaking to his numbers as if that's the end all be all to show his talents. You're right, he didn't put up big numbers as our #4 option. Guess what, our #1 option didn't either. The only thing Thompkins could do was catch the ball when it was thrown his way. He did. Damn near every time. He was also a fantastic blocking for the leagues #1 rusher.

I'm not opposed to replacing him. I'm opposed to shitting on a guy for doing his job as a #4 option.

Forgive me if I'd like production from a slot receiver beyond 35 yards per game. I think you're underselling how truly abysmal production that is. It's shocking to me that this guy has so many staunch supporters. The main retort seems to be, he caught the balls thrown his way. Okay, he's a slot receiver that ran most of his routes very close to the line. Granted, we've had a lot of receivers that couldn't even do that but just because he's better than the immense number of total disasters this team has trotted out at the receiver position, doesn't make him anything beyond painfully average. It's not ridiculous to expect more out of that spot.

Exactly, if we get walker the guy at the bottom is out. who ever that is, and we are better for it.

Youre right, but if anything he would project HIGHER with better usage.

We saw woli tearing the cfl up with streveler. in comes nichols, and he gets forgotten about for an extended period of time. Then gets worked back in and lights it up again. The same way weve gone away from harris for long stretches when he is playing great, or only give him a couple of touches in an entire half of football.

Hey, if you want to crap on Nichols, I'm all for it. I think he kills the value of every receiver we have outside his number one option. But the fact remains, a dynamite receiver doesn't get 2.1 catches per start solely because he's not being utilized properly in the offence. He's just not that good.

You cant get production if you dont invest the attempts, and the scheme time in a guy. And then, you still have to get him the ball.

Production doest win games, quality of play wins games. Bowman was a high production low quality guy. We dont need that.

He didnt catch short passes. Thats revisionists history.

Hes does actually. Because that exact same thing happened to wolitarsky when nichols came back.

Except he had a lot of catches deeper then 10 yards. Go look at his game log and the longest catch in each game. Or go back and watch some of his plays, the guy is dynamite down field beyond 15 yards.

I saw the games you did. He's good at catching balls over the middle and holding on after contact. He was running a lot of slants with open field in front of him so while I'm happy he got decent YAC, he was running routes conducive to that while a guy like Adams was running the run long, catch the ball and fall down routes. He had some long catches and is capable of breaking one but so was a guy like Ryan Lankford, and no one was clamouring for him to come back. Not to mention, at this point in his career his upside is essentially zero. He's not getting any better. In the last six games he played last year, his BEST yardage output was 25 yards. Do you honestly mean to tell me that this has nothing to do with his ability?

Bowman was actually a low production AND  low quality guy and had been for an additional year before he even signed here but that's beside the point.

I suppose it depends on your definition of what a "short" pass is. He had four catches of over 20 yards last year. My argument isn't that he's catching screens, it's that he's catching balls around 10 yards past the line of scrimmage give or take and those are far easier to complete than the deep passes to Adams. Especially with Nichols throwing them. I'm not even saying that Thompkins can't play at this level. As I said, he's average. I just have expectations that finding someone better than him shouldn't be a big challenge.

I think you’re basing this on an emotional reaction.   Winnipeg already did throw big money at Bighill and Jefferson.  Each team is working with the same cap.  Edmonton signed some guys sure but they also downgraded at quarterback and receiver. BC threw around some big money but they also have a long list a veterans who were there last year and who won’t be back.  They have to make decisions based on what’s realistic. Nobody besides BC was going to sign Reilly and nobody besides Calgary was going to sign Bo.  That much is evident.  There are still a lot of good players out there and we will see what Winnipeg ends up adding to the roster.  Calgary lost more talent than Winnipeg and I don’t see them going on a bender at the Casino over it.

Calgary had more talent to begin with and like i said before has a history of bringing in stud receivers...we don't. We also don't have a BLM ethier and Nichols needs both time and quality Rec around him to be success we are way behind were we finished last year with both our oline and starting rec...no emotion just facts. Walters himself stated he needed to upgrade his rec.. but your right they are not done yet. Too bad there is not much left.

We should cut that Harris fella, he's old and we can't possibly employ anyone on offense that is over 30 years old.

If you can’t see the difference between a perennial all star who has proven he’s a top tier player in this league and a 30 year old rookie with 421 receiving yards, I don’t know what to tell you pal.

Offensive line, maybe but receivers? Dressier is the only one not currently signed and no one else seems to want him, so...

Maybe the guy wasn't fully used? We give up on a guy only after a season?

This is professional football, you don’t get to have multiple years of middling play. Lots of guys don’t even get one season. It’s attitudes like this that keep guys like Greg Peach starting for multiple seasons in this league. The point of about his age is, he’s not getting any better than this so unless he’s dominant, why waste time with a guy who even as a rookie is outside his athletic prime?
