There's the good and the bad with O'Shea. The players clearly love and respect him, even when he cuts them or leaves them off the gameday roster. The downside is, with that love comes loyalty to players that often don't deserve it. Ultimately, if that reputation allows us to bring in more great players and leads to a Grey Cup, it's worth it. But it's frustrating as all hell to see guys like Lankford keep getting opportunities.

Hodge talks out his butt most of the time when it comes to FA.

agreed...hardly connected with any real inside sources...I think he just tosses a lot of "could happen" rumours out there and hopes one will come to fruition here and there and make him look credible

That's how Gary Lawless made his career! Maybe Hodge is trying to land a gig in Vegas too!

2. SUKH CHUNGH

OL | WPG

With Matthias Goossen retired, Sukh Chungh becomes one of the top prizes in free agency. The former second overall pick turns just 27 in March and is in the prime of his career, helping anchor one of the CFL’s top O-lines in 2018. Chungh is regarded as one of the most aggressive and physical guards in the league.

3. TAYLOR LOFFLER

DB | WPG

With two of the top three nationals coming out of Winnipeg, Kyle Walters still has some work to do in the coming weeks. Almost all of the starting safeties in the CFL are pending free agency, but 26-year-old Taylor Loffler is at the top of his position. He has 185 tackles, eight interceptions and seven forced fumbles in three seasons.

If that were true, then Randle & Wild would still be here.

The coaches obviously see value in Lankford that you don't but you're not privy to the same info they are. FTR, I'm not a fan of Lankford by any stretch but I'm also not a fan of benching/cutting a guy if you don't have someone better to replace them.  The coaches know what they have better than any of us, so I'll defer to their judgement while still realizing that they are human and can/have/will be wrong at times.

This isn't entirely true. My issue with his loyalties lie in his in season roster decisions. He's made it very clear that when he feels a player is no longer worth his salary, he will make that move in the offseason and I applaud him for it.

The argument that the coaches know better than us and thus we should defer to their every decision is frankly ridiculous. I agree that there are more factors in play than Player A is better than Player B thus he should play but every single coach has biases and decisions should absolutely be questioned. Lankford was one of the least efficient receivers of the past decade. I realize that I harp on him specifically but he's the best example of this trait in O'Shea. If someone isn't getting the job done, and he objectively was not, you replace him. If the replacement doesn't work out, that's fine because the person he replaced wasn't getting the job done either.

I think Lankford's value lies in his versatility- he can do a lot. Plus IIRC, he does know all the receiver positions and can plug into any position there- I don't think any other receiver has that versatility.

I feel that he is a jack-of-all-trades player and not a specialist.

Deferring to their decision doesn't mean you have to like it or agree with it.  They have been been wrong in the past and will be again in the future, that's life.  Deferring just means that you accept that they've made their decision (for whatever reason).

Given that Lankford only played in 4 games this past year (and 1 game was as a kicker), I'm not sure why you keep bringing him up.  They thought he had starter potential, it didn't work so now he's, at best, a back-up player. He knows the playbook and can fill multiple roles though so unless a replacement could do the same, it's not hard to see why they would keep him around.

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed international quarterback Bryan Schor and international receiver Garrett Johnson, the team announced on Wednesday.

Schor (6’2, 215, James Madison University, March 24, 1995 in Milford, Pennsylvania) played four seasons for the James Madison Dukes, completing 559 passes for 7,078 yards and 62 touchdowns. During his time at JMU, Schor set career records for passing touchdowns, passing yards, completions and total offense. In 2017, Schor finished the season with 3,222 passing yards and 26 touchdowns in 15 games.

Johnson (5’11, 175, University of Kentucky, December 3, 1995 in Winter Garden, FL.) played four seasons for the Kentucky Wildcats, finishing with 156 receptions for 2,095 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Johnson finished fourth in career receiving yards and fifth in receptions in the school’s history. ...we keep Lankford on the roster because he's our backup punter/FG kicker. There are alot of ways to win a CFL game, very few of them involve not having an at least adequate kicker if Medlock were ever to get hurt mid-game.

Except Lankford often didn’t dress for games, so he would be of no use if Medlock went down midgame.

Me thinks that Loffler is waaaayyyy over valuing himself...upwards of 200k for an extension??...see ya bud...money better spent elsewhere and safety isn't where you spend it...whoever pays that is nuts

I guarantee you...if he is gone....you won't even know it or miss him...too many people here are way too enamored with his big hits a few years ago and look past a lot of his deficiencies..such as can't cover, or run with a receiver at all....always late to breaking up a pass as the deep safety...sure he lays a lick on a guy occasionally but who cares when they made the catch anyway..

With projected 1 RB, 3 Nat OL & 2 Nat Receiver we only need 1 NAT on the D side to be a starter.

Ideally, we have to sign Loffler back but if his $$$ doesnt make sense then we have to find another Nat starter somewhere.
