Nope, nope, nope.  The Agencies have not confirmed anything as far as I've read (and I could be wrong at this second).  The sources are unnamed "whistleblowers".

Again, the stated motivation to delay the Michaels' release makes zero sense, but I'm more than willing to follow the evidence as it builds/crumbles.

So far, this is not passing the smell test for me.  Keep in mind, just because it was ran past the Global lawyers prior to publishing, they often advise on wording rather than the actual veracity of the story.

Also keep in mind that according to many on the right of the political spectrum, mainstream media cannot be trusted so why should we believe them now?  Can't have it both ways...

Resigned from caucus - not his seat.

And he voted for the public inquiry.

I'm a strong believer in journalism and the press, but not naive enough to realize that some (looking at you Post Media) are troublesome.  It says a lot to me that not even Post Media is jumping all over this.

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're saying...

I will say...it 100% is voluntary. No one is making anyone (all things being equal) live in this country. If you're volunteering to live in a country, then you are required to play by that countries rules.

Join that illustrious club. 🙂

I'm not talking about voluntary living in this Country. Come, go do whatever you want to do.

I'm saying that enjoying the freedoms and individual rights that we have as Canadians come with responsibilities we have to others and to our environment.

I love how some people gloss over, wave away, ignore civic responsibility like it's just an aside and think the only issue here is my rights, my freedoms.

Two national security agencies confirmed this story according to Global. That this meeting was held in secrecy. It also says that the PMO only became aware of the conversation a couple of days ago. Dong admitted to having a conversation with Chinese Consul General Han. Didn't admit it was about the two Michaels. Dong should be in jail awaiting trial.

In jail for what? It's not a crime to meet with diplomats. They do it regularly.

It often seems like the ones who do are those who are blinded by their own privilege, entitlement, and ignorance.

Section 1 of the Charter seems lost on way too many people.

And they will read posts like this with glee, smirking away thinking they've triggered the libtards, radical leftists, socialists and communists.

Most of these statements seem to be made by people who have already benefited economically over their lifetime from the stability of the country and government they seem to loath.  They fail to acknowledge that younger citizens and immigrants on their way up should also have access to the same opportunities stable government provides.  In my estimation this attitude stems from greed and selfishness as a base motivation that often seems to be derived from an increased sense of prosperity.  Poorer people tend not to adopt the attitude of disgruntled shitbags.

Agreed about the dubiousness of the entirety of the report. That the Chinese embassy chose to "leak" it to the least trustworthy news network in Canada with the most right-wing bias sets off alarm bells.

Losing privilege feels like oppression.

Can sum up so many of the "issues" people have these days.

Quote

MP Han Dong says he has retained a lawyer and plans to sue Global News after it published a story alleging he advised a senior Chinese diplomat in February 2021 that Beijing should hold off on freeing Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor — the two Canadians being held by China at the time.

Dong, who left Liberal caucus last week, confirmed to Global that he had a discussion with Consul General Han Tao but emphatically denied that he had advised Beijing to delay releasing the two Canadians.

On Friday, the Globe and Mail reported that the government received a CSIS transcript of Dong's conversation with the consul and concluded that there was no "actionable evidence," adding that it could not be determined that Dong asked the Chinese government to keep the two Canadians in prison for political reasons.

In a statement posted to Twitter Monday, Dong said he has a lawyer to "begin legal action to its fullest extent."

The Don Valley North MP said he supports a public inquiry into Chinese government interference and said he is willing to meet with former governor general David Johnston, the government's recently appointed special rapporteur on foreign interference, and provide him with information.

That is the most ludicrous thing. Why would they want the Michaels held longer? It's stupid.

Like it was reported, To stop the Conservatives from looking good. Is it true? If it is, it will be a huge scandal. If not, the reporter's career is over.
