A handful of Liberal MPs say the party needs to refocus as it prepares to go head-to-head against a new brand of Conservatives — including being "less woke," according to Radio-Canada.

The MPs spoke to the French-language arm of CBC — most on the condition that they not be named — as the party gathers for a caucus meeting in the coastal resort town of Saint Andrews, N.B.

The meeting is meant to underline the party's priorities ahead of the fall sitting, which will see a new face leading His Majesty's Loyal Opposition: Pierre Poilievre.

"We need to reframe the message. We need to have both hands on the wheel when it comes to the economy. We dropped the ball on this," said one MP, who spoke on the condition they not be named.

Another said the party needs to be better at showing it's listening to Canadians and their concerns.

"You have to go back to the basics, to a more direct link with the people," they said.

Within the Liberal ranks, some said they would like to see the party adopt more centrist positions to counter Poilievre.

"We must return to a federal centre, centre-right party," said another MP, also on the condition they not be identified. "We need a government that is down to earth and less woke."

These "opinions" ring pretty hollow when those who make them - publicly paid and elected politicians - choose to remain anonymous.

And of course, none of them bothered to expand on their opinions or explain what going "back to the basics" or being "less woke" actually entails.

Statement from Mark Hancock, National President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), on Pierre Poilievre winning the Conservative Party leadership:

“It’s too bad that, unlike Andrew Scheer, Pierre Poilievre does not hold American citizenship, because he would be right at home as Governor of a state like Alabama.

Pierre is a career politician who has been collecting a six-figure salary on the public’s dime since he was 24, and he’s spent every minute of his time in office fighting against fair wages, good pensions and a better life for working people. He is not a worker, and he definitely doesn’t get what it means to be a member of the working class.

Pierre has spent his leadership campaign making the Conservative Party a cozier place for far-right extremists and conspiracy theorists in order to sell memberships. This isn’t your parents’ Conservative Party, or even Stephen Harper’s Conservative Party. It’s now Pierre’s Convoy Party of Canada.

His leadership will be a disaster for working people in Canada.”

The attack ads in the next election are going to be absolutely crazy.

Right out of the Trump playbook. Predictable and embarrassing as a Canadian and world citizen. Here’s hoping this lazy unoriginal mother f’er and his band of morons, dweebs have completely misjudged (not in their favour) how well this approach will work with Canadians across this fine country of ours.

That's the thing with shallow populist ideas, they don't actually have to have a plan. Shout "Justinflation!" or "Freedom" over and over until the rubes are frothing at the mouth. The goal isn't to deliver anything, it's to claim power.

It must take a lot to leave the party and risk losing your job to do something like this. Lots of respect for Conservatives that do this in the name of actually staying true to traditional Conservative values rather than chasing the alt-right misinformation-fed vote. More than anyone across the political spectrum, Canada needs Conservatives to call this out and oppose it. The US needed Republicans to massive oppose Trump, and lost their opportunity in the sake of power-hunting and fear. Unfortunately actual values mean little when power is up for grabs.

Sickos.

Such a low, scumbag tactic to continually paste people with the word liberal (incorrectly) as an insult. I would hope that the majority of Canadians see this for what it is, but we've seen members of this forum repeatedly use Liberal, again incorrectly, as an attack.

Continually screaming BIAS!!!! towards legitimate journalism weakens journalism and news in the eyes of some Canadians and leaves them prone to believing that agencies like Rebel News are unbiased.
