Like the NDP didn't interfere? They re-did the curriculum here in AB. And the education system is run by progressives.

I have been teaching for 20 years - first as an EA then as a Teacher.  I have yet to see a government who did not change one or more of the curricula as part of their mandate.

The idea that education is liberal is ludicrous.

The only thing that happens is that education and critical thinking makes people question the obvious bullshit that right wing parties spin. So an educated voter base is bad for their chances of being elected so they actively try and keep people stupid.

I worked for 10 years at a local Calgary High school & I know for a fact that every social studies teacher there was socialist or an NDP supporter in their political leanings & taught their courses that way. My son's high school social studies was a social studies teacher & he was as left leaning as any teacher came. When Harper was Prime Minister they taught their students to be critical of the Conservatives policies. At lunchtime, I'd talk politics with them & they told me how they teach their courses from Grade 10 thru 12. How much they hated Harper. The social studies curriculum was Globalism. In Alberta anyway, there is no such thing as Canadian history. Kids should be taught Canadian history first so they know something about this country & they should be taught both sides of the political spectrum so they can make up their own minds & not manipulated the way they are.

Doug Ford’s plans for education, which includes eliminating several thousand teacher jobs and replacing them with American-style online learning courses, could do great damage to Ontario’s education system, experts in online learning say.

(COULD?) LOL.

This week, the Toronto Star obtained a secret document exposing the Ford government’s plans to cut education by “progressively increasing” enrolments in cheap e-learning courses, with the goal of allowing teenagers to obtain high school diplomas “entirely online” by 2024.

The Ford government announced plans last year to make students complete four mandatory online courses in order to graduate, starting this school year.

Ford’s Education Minister Stephen Lecce has defended the move by noting several Republican-held US states already have mandatory e-learning.

Lecce has pointed to “Alabama” and “Arkansas” as good examples of the education model he wants to import to Ontario.

As an Ontario resident who lives 45 mins from the heart of all this I can assure you this is all about the teacher unions getting that guaranteed wage hike they were promised by previous left Lib govt and not the ephemera they claim is vital.

E learning has them royally spooked for the most generous job and pension security in the province, (and im betting the country).

In other words, gasp,  joining the real private sector world of outsourcing and automation

Well- I have no horse in the race and I see this as bad. Simple question- my children, do I want them in a class room setting to learn or from an E-course...

Sure the pension aspect and so on spooking teachers is probably a real thing- but it's still a bad move from an education aspect...

Considering he was in high school for 5 years, went to community college for two months and dropped out... its no wonder he doesn't value education. To be honest, I don't blame him- "Look Ma! i dropped out of communty college and I'm the premier of Ontario!" FFS...

Guy was drug dealer and his brother was a junkie. They don't value education. It's no wonder he's run his dad's company into the ground.

Yet the people of Ontario elected him as PREMIER! How does that even work?

"Wynne? No way- she has questionable values (ie: she's Gay). I will vote for the college drop out drug dealer..."

I honestly think Doug Ford was universally disliked when he was sworn into office... I don't get it...

The Liberals were done. Done, done, done! A mess of their own making. The Conservatives could have run anyone and won that thing. However, they chose Ford rather than some infinitely more qualified and respectable people. The Liberals will get back into power in a few years.

Yeah that PPP with the electricity was an epic failure- that alone should bar anyone from re-election.

Actually it was Wynne driving the province into the financial toilet that got Ford elected.

With a little more fiscal sanity and a little less fellating public sector unions the Liberals could have held power here indefinitely lesbian premier or no lesbian premier.

Agreed, hence my follow up about the public-private Partnership of Hydro 1.

The stupidest thing about all that... the government retained only 40% of the utility- making it impossible to ever get it back or being able to make any decisions that benefit the population.

Ford ran a good campaign despite downtown Toronto elites and woke  intelligenstia stacked against him. He also won the nomination as party leader with considerable forces against him.

Hes not without political talents.

So Which is it?

I don't know how politically talented he is- I know that you could have run a Ham Sandwich sans mustard and won against Wynne.

But why didnt New Democrats win then ?

You still need to run a good campaign. Delivered and maintained a fiscal sanity message whilst NDP camapign never convinced anyone of anything except public sector jobs are safe with us.

Didnt say Ford was a master politician just saying hes not talent-less.

Some people just have Trudeau derangement syndrome. They were the never Trudeau's and will always find flaw in what he does.

Now me I think the guy is an idiot and unqualified to be the PM... but I ain't gonna criticize him for shopping local. Hell I can even go so far as to say he's doing the right thing there.

Wish more people were objective instead of having the us vs. Them mentality

Damn... this made international headlines... you know, if spendong a little more money to support a local business is the worst scandal we can come up with on Trudeau for 2020, i am good with that.

But seriously... I don't see anything wrong at all with this... regardless of which party this is... I would give sheerer props for this move too...
